Try the edible exotic aromatica- delightful hot drink made with dried fruit, melon, apple, cinnamon etc. Also the trioloco is superb because you get 2 arepa, and a small cup of beans and chorizo to go with it.

I had heard good things about this place prior to visiting. Now that i have been there, I understand why folks like it so much. The food is delicious and very authentic. Prices were very good too. I had the tostones and they were so...good! Also had churros with ice cream for dessert, drizzled in a mango sauce. Off the charts amazing! Our waitress was also very kind. The only small complaints I have is that the portions were quite small. I left there still feeling a little hungry. Also, it was very warm in the dining area. AC would have been nice. Be sure to check out the small grocery section by the checkout. Overall a wonderful restaurant.More
Clearly a legit Mexican restaurant. Had the beef tacos which were great, good level of spice. Quick service. Has a Mexican grocery store with homemade salsas and hot sauces attached.
Covid times= takeaway We enjoyed a delicious meal with churros for dessert. Flavours were incredible and authentic. Definitely a place to go again!
This is by far the best Mexican/Guatamalan food to be found in Nova Scotia. I'm a native southern Californian and spent many summers in Mexico, so I have a point of comparison. Claudia is rooted in traditional Mayan cuisine, and she makes trips throughout Latin...America regularly, to broaden and enrich her culinary expertise with techniques and flavours from these other countries. She trained as a chef in PEI, and is serious and impeccable in preparation and presentation. I was particularly impressed with her addition of chocolate to savoury tortillas, use of nopales (cactus fruit) and fabulous sauces. I am a regular and request visitor to Cafe Aroma Latino, and I hope she continues to cook here in Halifax for many years to come.More
This Central American restaurant ,run by Guatamalan Claudia Pinto, offers tapas (small plates), amazing soups , incredible latin american breakfasts , mouth watering tostadas and fish tacos , fresh juices... I could go on....discover it for yourself They also have a central american grocery attached...!!More
Good restaurant and especially for its specialty of Guatemala. I found the flavors I knew from Mexico. A good address in Halifax to eat dishes with flavors of Central and South America.
A nice place for a few friends or a couple of couples. A little quieter than its sister restaurant next door, The Bicycle Thief. Seating is a bit tight but service is very good! All the dishes we ordered were good and we all had...something different. A pleasant experience.More
Everyone seems to pass this by, but they shouldn't it's a Latin-American gem. Simple cafe with exquisitely delicious home cooked food. Called in for breakfast with a friend while gettting his bike fixed. Cyclists can eat, and we weren't disappointed. you're not quite sure waht...to make of the tiny space when you walk in - looks a little like a cheesy mexican cafe with the rustic tables and crockery but it's ll there to make a point that the food is anything but cheesy and quaint. The coffee was good and strong and the breakfast plates - perfectly friend plantain, tasty refried beans, avocado, home made salsa and eggs melded together perfectly to satisfy. The place also has a secret, hidden store where you can buy alll those central and south american products you just can't find anywhere for if you fancy trying your hand at some local dishes. It's a bit of an aladdin's cave! given that it was one lady doing everything, without any fuss, boggles the mind too. Take the time to come to Cafe Aroma. you will not be disappointed. I need to explore more of her menu!More
Went for breakfast with my son and girlfriend. Absolutely delicious food, authentic flavours and spicing. I had the Guatemalan breakfast. Just great.
Stumbled across this while on a walk and almost walked right by (signage is sort of hidden). So very glad we went inside. We enjoyed authentic tacos, papusas and fair trade coffee. Can't wait to return to enjoy the breakfast menu and to browse the...small grocery store attached.More
The number one thing I miss about moving out of the north end is grabbing food at this place. Everything is delicious and the price is right. The coffee and the passion fruit juice are certainly worth a try.
When my husband and I moved into the neighbourhood around Agricola and North, we noticed this little cafe. I was concerned about the food being too spicy for me and my husband would wistfully peruse the menu as we walked by. Eight months later we...finally tried it! I was pleasantly surprised at how flavourful the food was without being overly spicy. My husband had a breakfast plate that included chorizo sausage, black beans, feta, and two corn bread patty things filled with egg (we can't remember the name). I had a beef taco (soft taco shell type - authentic!), one of their dobladas and a pupusa. They're slightly smaller versions of the full meal supper ones you may be used to but they're priced accordingly and great value. I enjoy variety and trying a few things all at once so it was perfect. I cannot stress enough how fantastic this meal was! My husband and I are good cooks and we often leave restaurants thinking that at least part of the meal we could have done better ourselves, which is always a bit disappointing. I left with that 'wow' feeling, which is rare. My husband is from the UK and has had great food all over Europe and often remarks how bland the food is here. HE was impressed with this meal, which means a lot if you knew him. The grand total for the whole thing was around $30, including drinks (their unsweetened passion fruit juice is amazing!) and worth every penny. We'll definitely be back. I only regret not going sooner.More
First and last time. $10 for 2 tiny, wet, and weird tasting beef tacos. Had to spit half of the beef out. Unchewable.
My first visit, but definitely not my last. I had the Tapadito breakfast today - how does the chef manage perfectly cooked eggs inside crispy, light, delicious arepas? It also included nice spicy little chorizos, frijoles, and queso fresco. I'm looking forward to exploring the...rest of the menu, which has contributions from Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala, Argentina, and Mexico. Most of these items aren't available in any other restaurants in the city, and provide interesting cultural comparisons (e.g. Colombian & Argentinian empanadas; Guatemalan & Mexican tacos). There is also a small grocery section with Latin American specialties not easily found elsewhere. This is another important part of the increasingly exciting North End food community.More
