Wait staff was very attentive and food came out very quickly. My wife and I both wanted a light meal so we both had the Fish Tips and Chips for the smaller portion than full size filets. Batter was crispy and fish was flaky. They had malt vinegar in addition to the tartar sauce which appeared homemade. Coleslaw was very vinegary and excellent IMO. Would go there again.

Bluenose is a Halifax institution...been here for years. I always try and go for breakfast and watch the diner quickly fill up with hungry Haligonians and visitors who like to explore. Pretty standard breakfast offerings but tasty and attractively priced. (I'm going to try the Greek omelette one day). Brisk and friendly service as you would expect. Street parking and this can be a bit of a problem..but not at 8am on Sunday morning. They also have a good seafood selection on the menu including lobster at probably the most affordable price in the city

This a great spot for breakfast or lunch, a classic Diner experience. We like it especially for breakfast when staying at any of the downtown hotels. The Marriott or Muir are very close. Breakfast is a third the price of these hotels. Two eggs with toast was less than $9 as of this writing. Service was quick and staff friendly. Open 7 days a week 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM.

This lovely restaurant has been family run since the 60's. It came recommended by our tour guide who brought us to Peggy's Cove. We ate there twice. Our first experience was dinner. I very happily enjoyed the scallops, served on a large piece of garlic bread, with rice and vegetables. My husband had a hamburger steak with gravy, fries and vegetables. He said it was very good. The wine list is short. The restaurant featured 3 Halifax wines. The portions are large and the prices are great. Our server was extremely attentive, very professional, and totally charming. We returned for breakfast. We both enjoyed their egg special with choice of bacon or ham or sausage, and home fries, perfectly cooked, and three choices of bread for toast. Coffee was very good. This restaurant is very well established. I recommend dining here.

WOW, still a winner after 60 years. You will enjoy almost anything that you order at the Bluenose II. The location, the decor, the service and the food are all a good reflection of the Halifax eating scene. Yes, there are fancier places to eat, but for your money and if you want a taste of Halifax, this is the place. If you are a visitor to Halifax or a new resident, this place will remind you of your favourite home style restaurant from home. And when you go, have the daily special. Any of the choices are good, and they include soup or chowder, your meal and rice pudding (or jello) dessert. The rice pudding alone, may the best that you will ever have anywhere, including anything homemade. The service is attentive and timely. The chef is someone who has either been there for a long time or really enjoys preparing a good meal. The breakfasts are also some of the best in town. To top it all, the prices can't be beat either. You really get true value at the Bluenose II. Our meal of two daily specials and coffee/tea was $35,before tax & tip.

I've been going to the Bluenose for about 20 years. At first it was the best, with Nancy, Martina, Velos in the kitchen, etc. You always got a hot, fresh roll and a big, well-prepared and tasty meal. Then John took over and it was still good, with large, tasty, well-presented meals. Recently the prices have increased quite a bit, but the meals have gotten considerably smaller and it's hit or miss as to whether it's good or not. Recently it was lasagna, which was served quickly but still cold in the middle. When I order the pork souvlaki they are either out of rice or tatziki. Today was the seafood platter which, while a large meal, was just okay. Those beautiful, huge clams have been downgraded to clam strips, which makes me incredibly sad. The fries were so overdone as to be mostly inedible, no tartar sauce or coleslaw, and to add to my meal, a server came by and dumped water into my glass of club soda (which was $3.95). I really, really want to be loyal but it's getting difficult. Also, their inspection rating is absolutely atrocious. I have been a bit wigged out about that. I understand that times are difficult for businesses re staffing and prices, but it's almost like they don't even care anymore. I will continue to go because it's habit at this point, but will refrain from recommending it to tourists looking for a good place to eat.

Went on a weekday for dinner and they were busy. We waited around for over 5 minutes while staff walked by us without acknowledging us, until we finally went up to the bar to ask for a table. Seems like you have to be a regular to get better service since the owners/management personally greeted some regulars that came in after us. Our server was nice though, when we eventually got a table, for that I gave a three star. Ordered several items including calamari, fish and chips, and lobster roll. The roll was good but the mayo sauce does nothing to enhance the taste. The fish was also good, but the fries were dry. The best was the calamari, although a little greasy, was still good. Tzatziki sauce goes great with calamari, but unfortunately their tzatziki tasted mostly of sour cream.

If you are looking for a family restaurant offering good value for money, this unpretentious restaurant is for you. Excellent lobster roll, good Greek salad and souvlaki, good burger. A plus for desserts, like Chocolate Turtle and Banana Cream Pie.

This restraurant was a great relief for a couple of hungry travelers, who had spent the morning hopping off and on throughout the city. We wee at the art mudeum and it was recommended aboout 2 blocks away. Had very good service, prices seemed reasonable for the location and the lobster rolls were everything you cold ask for and more. The pile of fries was more than I cold eat, and I usually finish them. That was partially due to the very large portion of lobster on the roll. At a table nearby a couple were each having a whole lobster. Those were very large also. If I am in Halifax again, I will definitley try to go back.

Stopped in for lunch. We were in the mood for lobster rolls. Thoroughly enjoyed our rolls, served with a side of coleslaw and clam chowder. The lobster rolls were very generously stuffed (most meat of any roll I’ve had in Halifax) and the clam chowder was fantastic - rich, creamy and full of clams. Our server, Habib, was exceptionally professional, most attentive and very friendly. The restaurant atmosphere was great - casual with lots of wood and big, bright windows. Prices are very reasonable and food quality is excellent.

When I worked downtown, eating at the Bluenose II was a regular event. Well over 30 years later, I was feeling nostalgic and my son and I went there for supper. Still very clean and a nice atmosphere. Our server was very friendly. I neglected to ask his name but he was a great server. My son enjoyed fish and chips and my clam chowder and spinach salad were well presented and tasty.

This restaurant was recommended to me by a local. She said this is where locals go to eat seafood - any place else you’ll get overcharged and all the food is good. She was right! It is not fancy - just a local dinner with booths and paper mats with ads on the table. But I had the lobster dinner and it was excellent! And it was about half the cost of what I’d pay in the states. It came with the clam chowder which my husband and I both thought was very good. He had the chicken brochette with lemon potatoes (yum) and loved it. If you’re looking for good food, this is it. If you’re looking for fancy, go someplace else.

This has the ambiance of a "past its prime" diner -- booths but with a long wooden bar at the entrance. Menu was limited, as were drinks. There were more beer options than anything else -- and the wine options were poor. Mixed drinks limited and simple. It was obvious people came here for an affordably priced whole lobster dinner. However, the lobster was on the small side, and the side orders were uneventful. We ended up getting Caesars (to drink) and shared an order of Cheese Bread -- pretty plain and not at all exciting. Just couldn't get excited about anything else on the menu.

We came into Halifax for the Doobie Brothers concert on Friday evening. I made reservations a few days beforehand. My friend and I split a seafood platter and potato skins. It is the first time in my life I was ever served corn and carrots as a side on a seafood platter. Four scallops, one small haddock tail triangle, 6 clams, and 4 shrimp with a handful of fries for $27.50. The potato skins were so greasy there was literally a puddle of oil in the basket. So disappointed, I have eaten there several times in the past few years and always had good food. Will not be going back.

If you’re in Halifax looking for a great lobster dinner, do not go to Blue Nose II! The coleslaw and rice pudding were very good. The lobster was so overcooked that you could hardly cut it or chew it. I can’t believe they’ve been in business all these years and don’t know how to cook a lobster! The service was ok at best. I would never go back or recommend it to anyone going to Halifax.
