What a perfect spot for a celebration dinner. Stylish decor and ambiance sets the mood for the amazing food. Presentation was a feast for the eyes and one could taste the love that went into the preparation in every bite. We absolutely loved it. I...will certainly be back. My new favourite spot in Halifax.More

We've dined at Stories before and always enjoyed the experience. This visit was no exception. A good selection of plates on the menu and we certainly enjoyed all our selections. Quiet, competent service in these days when wait staff are really pressed.

This restaurant came up after a quick search on the internet. We were so lucky that they had a table for the one night we were in Halifax. They were incredibly welcoming, it’s a charming small restaurant with an excellent menu and the food was...beautifully presented and absolutely outstanding. The best cooked vegetables I’ve had in the whole of our travels in Canada!More

Stories is regularly ranked as the best restaurant in the Canadian city of Halifax so my wife and I booked a table with great expectations. The first impressions were good - the restaurant’s two rooms are intimate and the music is low enough that you...can hear yourself think. The fresh bread we were offered at the start tasted delicious. My wife and I both ordered the Guinea hen without a starter and our server courteously warned us right away that we could expect a 25-minute delay. The food arrived and at that point the evening started to go sideways. The hen was perfectly cooked (the chef has been there 25 years) but a bit bland - and then our regular server vanished and we had to ask someone else to fill our wine glasses since the bottle was being stored elsewhere. We said, please leave it here, we are happy to pour, and were told that provincial law didn’t allow bottles to be placed on tables to give servers control over diners’ alcohol intake. This was our fourth dinner in a row in the city and on the previous three nights we’d had the bottle on our table. The desserts were pretty bland and as we ate I gradually became aware that the music was (a) louder and (b) playing Frank Sinatra singing “God Bless America”. I asked, why is that, and it turns out they play Sirius XM radio as background music. Soon the song was over and the announcer said he hoped everyone was “praying to God to ensure that the United States remains the finest country in the world”. I am sure Stories gets many U.S. clients but this is a Canadian restaurant in Canada. The final bill wasn’t actually outrageously big but we left with the very strong impression that this is an establishment rather coasting on its reputation.More

Very nice little restaurant in an old house, using a couple of rooms on the main floor as the dining area and the upper stories as a boutique hotel. Very limited menu, with 5 items as appetizers and 6 for the main course, all of...which look interesting. I choose the goat cheeze appetizer and the duck main course - both very good, perfect amounts, very nicely presented.More

Casual, elegant fine dining. Start with the incredibly succulent scallops prepared with a bright fresh mouth watering experience. The duck was cooked to perfection, rare just as it should be. Texture and flavour was perfectly enhanced with the chefs secret sauce. Desert was an art...form and left us satisfied. Service by Malcolm was 1st class. Very few tables and small rooms made for the perfect opportunity to relax and enjoy my partners conversation. 6 stars if I could!More

My husband wanted to organize a special dinner for four of us to celebrate my 75th birthday. We could not have chosen a better place. We were in one of the two small private rooms and the atmosphere was perfect - as was the food....The menu isn't large but there is still plenty of variety. To work around a couple of food preferences and to leave room for main courses, we shared three appetizers (crab cake, scallops and goat cheese salad). Then two of us had tuna, one had duck and the other the salmon. All dishes were beautifully cooked and each was a work of art on the plate. Amazingly, two people still had room for dessert and pronounced the flourless chocolate cake and the sorbet to be marvellous. Our server, whose name I sadly forgot to ask, was terrific. Attentive and helpful but never obtrusive, he had a delightful sense of humour and got that we were a table of old people but not in our dotage. He helped us navigate menu items to work around one person's dairy intolerance and assisted with the wine choices. If Stories is having the supply and staffing issues that we hear are affecting most of the hospitality industry at the moment, it was certainly not obvious. This was the best dining out experience we've had in years. Thank you to all concerned.More

We have travelled extensively and visited a number of Michelin starred restaurants in Europe. This would rank right up there in terms of the quality of the food, the creativity and the presentation. Wine selection and cocktail lists is limited, however. Highly recommended for a...special night out.More

We went back to this restaurant for my birthday meal. Appropriate spacing for social distancing was in place, which we thought made the restaurant more intimate. I had the goat cheese salad and the guinea hen and my partner had the carpaccio and beef tenderloin....Portions were just the right size. Bread before the meal was delicious. We had a cheese plate and flourless chocolate cake for dessert. Everything tasted fabulous, and was presented beautifully. Service was very evenly paced and the server was very professional and friendly, without being obtrusive. We would have preferred a couple more main course selections and a different type of salad for a starter. We were also disappointed that soup was not an option. They were out of the wine that we initially ordered, which is understandable, but slightly disappointing. This has been consistently the best fine dining restaurant in Halifax and for the price, we thought it was a very good value. We would highly recommend.More
