Looking for a real dining experience? This is it. Small but varied menu featuring fish, seafood and meat. Beautifully plated and table service is attentive but unobtrusive. A sample platter of oysters from along the Atlantic coast allows you to savor the flavour and textures that are available.

This was our third visit in three years to the press gang. We were celebrating our tenth wedding anniversary and wanted the best Halifax has to offer. We were not disappointed. Initially they sat us at a table next to the front door. I found it cold as I was sitting in a glass corner with the door opening and... More

We had an early meal (right as they opened) as we were attending a play later that evening. We informed our server of when we needed to leave and the resulting service was timely without feeling at all rushed. All three of us thoroughly enjoyed our meals and would return again. Though it is on the high-end price-wise, I certainly... More

The restaurant is in one of the oldest buildings in downtown Halifax; it's a cozy, extremely rustic atmosphere, with wood beams and concrete walls. It's known for its oysters, which I don't eat, but my husband thoroughly enjoyed his. He also had a seared cod done in a bernaise sauce with potatoes and vegetables served in a cast-iron crock. He... We has never tried oysters so when we found ourselves sitting at the "oyster" bar, we asked the young bartender for help with understanding oyster lingo. She was amazing! So sweet and helpful... she explained the different varieties and guided our choices all of which we enjoyed.

We had a very early dinner on a Saturday evening, so the place was quiet, though they have live entertainment later on. Very nice, historic building, and friendly wait staff. My wife had the chowder, which was large, satisfying and very good. Oysters were also good, but the scallops were a bit disappointing as the pesto based sauce overpowered the... More

If you are an oyster lover (and who isn't), you MUST eat here. The oysters are fresh and varied - usually at least five different kinds. The other menu items are very good as well - I recommend the Caesar salad - yes, in a seafood restaurant - it is excellent as is the seafood chowder. Again, as I found... More

We ordered oysters, mussels and salad. All of which was wonderful--especially the oysters! (wow!). Unfortunately, their wine menu was not up to date and every wine we ordered was no longer available. After 3 tries, the server suggested 2 different wines that were in stock and similar to the wines we were wanting. The live music was very loud which... More

This was our "splurge restaurant" on our recent visit to NS and it was well worth the splurge. The building in which the restaurant is located is very old - built in the 18th century I believe - and beautifully restored/maintained. The service is efficient, professional and very friendly and, of course, the food is "to die for". My husband... More

This was a great restaurant food choices were great and service excellent. We went with friends who had found it earlier in the week and wanted to show us how good it was. The wait staff were attentive and helpful and the ambience of the building was truly great. It's not an inexpensive night out but well worth the money.
