Good location in Downtown Halifax. The beer was good. The food was average and the food was quite pricey. The service was average - friendly but slow.

I was there with a group of 8 people during Burger Bash, 6 of us had Burgers and 2 people had Wings. The burger description sounded great, unfortunately it was bland, tasteless & luke warm at best the cheese not even close to melted. There...was pulled pork on the Beef Burger and that was tasteless as well. There was a small piece of Chicharron as a Garnish for the Burger and that tasted great with a welcome surprise of heat (Spice). I tasted the Fries that came as a side add on with the Burgers and they were good!. The wings were not much better, luke warm and pretty tasteless as well. I had a Brown Stout and the beer was great! I ordered a side Caesar salad (virtually no dressing, now I do not like a lot of dressing on my Caesar Salad but this was beyond that) with my Burger; on the menu side were $4.00, I was charged $7.00, when I mention this to the server she said during Burger Bash the price was more, I mentioned that there was nothing on the menu that stated this and she just ignored this comment. It's only $3.00 but it just left a bad impression of just simply wanting to gouge customers. Our first time at Gahan House and will definitely be our one and only!More

Recently had the privilege of dining at this restaurant for the first time since they relocated from the waterfront location, and the experience was just as I remembered! It is perfectly located in the downtown area in walking distance to the waterfront and other places....Theres street parking available as well as tons of parking garages that are pretty affordable For starters, we were warmly greeted from the time we enters until our departure. Our waitress, Kennedy was exceptional. She was patient with us despite us being undecided about what we wanted. She took the time to walk us through the menu and even made recommendations based on our desires. She was knowledgeable of the menu items and made great recommendations. We started out with the seafood chowder, the haddock tacos and the croquettes. Everything was beautifully plated and perfectly seasoned. It really opened our stomachs up for the amazing experience we were about to enjoy. Then we opted for sandwiches. I had the signature burger and my partner had the beef sandwich. We were a little disappointed that the beef sandwich was open faced, but nonetheless they both were delicious. I especially loved that attention to detail that Kennedy took. At a point in the night, we had a bit of an issue, but she was quick in attending to it and quickly accommodated our concerns. She went above and beyond to ensure we were comfortable and that we enjoyed our experience. She continuously checked in on us and was so professional the entire time. Thank you so much “Kennedy (like the President)” for making our visit exceptional. You are by far one of the greatest waitresses I’ve ever experienced and your customer service was second to none! Please keep up the amazing job.More

This is an Erik only review as Cheryl did not attend. I ate here on August 26, 2023. I was seated quickly, and my server arrived promptly. My server was friendly and efficient. I had a couple of beers, calamari and the brown bag fish...and chips. The food arrived in a reasonable time and was well presented. The calamari was good with a nice texture and flavor. The fish and chips were decent with the fish being a little greasy, but tasty. This was a nice lunch, and I would definitely eat here again.More

We went for the oysters but then surprised and disappointed that an ‘Oyster Bar’ had none at all, with no real explanation beyond a shrug from our waitress. Pretzel Bites shared starter was awful. Not pretzels at all, just huge chunks of salty bread. Mains...were much better. Haddock tacos were fresh and tasty, with a crisp spinach salad. Ring Bearer Burger was perfectly cooked, with superb fries on the side. Indulged in a few of the vast selection of local beers.More

Service: The waitress although pleasant enough was rarely seen; she took our order, delivered food and drinks and vanished in between. She never once asked how anything was, did not check back to see if everything was OK, or if we needed anything else, etc....She did return it take our plates; did not ask if we wanted to see a dessert menu or wanted another drink and left us hanging there for a good 10 minutes before we decided to just head out. There was a young fellow there who had taken us to our seats, also very pleasant and said, goodnight have a lovely evening ladies when we got up to leave. We probably could’ve just walked out without paying which of course we would never do. We told him we had not yet paid and he got the waitress. This place was not busy at all; very few people in the restaurant. Food: Food was absolutely terrible!! My daughter and I shared chicken wings which were bland in taste, and ver very dry. Both of us agreed they tasted like something you threw in your fridge and heated up three days later. The sweet chilli dip, which I suspect is something they are trying to put their own twist on, was horrible. We like spicy food and although this boasted a spicy taste in the menu, it was not; it was chunky and again somewhat bland, and we did not enjoy it at all. The waitress did not even bother to ask us how they were and had she done so, I would have been kind but honest. We then split the fish and chips, but upgraded to poutine which was just awful, the worst we’ve had. It had a very very strong flavour of what I believe was poultry seasoning or something close to that. The tartar sauce for the fish was largely mayonnaise and for me was barely tolerable, but I had to use it because she dropped the dishes off and disappeared , and I like vinegar or lemon juice on my fish, which, by the way, was also very dry and flat. Please know that we eat out a lot and very rarely have negative things to say. I am pretty sure I have never given written a review like this, but feel people need to be aware, as eating out is an expensive treat. I have to feel very strongly about an experience to write such a bad review. However, I felt it was important to let people know. We had eaten here once in the past and had no problems, but this experience was so dismal we would never eat here again. The restaurant itself is lovely and I hope the owners see the review, and step up their game!! We did leave a 15% tip which is low for us, but I just do not have the heart to leave no tip as I know people work very hard for their living and maybe the waitress was having a bad day or there was something going on in the background that we were not aware of. Again, when we did see her, she was quite pleasant. Thank youMore

I've been to the Gahan House in Charlottetown which feels like a cozy pub off the main road in the downtown shopping area. The Halifax location is just as great foodwise. However, the actual location is a bit more swanky in Hali. Live music, huge...windows, sleek seating and decor all make for a great night out. I visited with a friend for a late night dinner and the whole place was packed. The food, service and atmosphere are spot on and the location is convenient and within walking distance to major hotels and sights. Great for any meal, day or night.More

It’s been awhile since I’ve had dinner here and it was once a great spot for food & drink. Although our service tonight was good the food was poor. All 4 adults tonight were very disappointed with the food, the 2 kids felt it was...ok. The fish tacos I had were mediocre at best. 2 of us had the burrito bowl and they said it was horrible. We won’t be returning snd advice you don’t bother eating here, Halifax has much better options.More

A big modern bar and restaurant close to town and with a large range of Gahan House brewed beers on tap. Although the venue was quiet at the time of my visit, the staff were non-engaging. I came for the beers was satisfied with them.

Been many times but was very disappointed. They ran out of two beer on the “flight” options and instead of telling us and giving us options they gave us a different flight of beer all together. Then they had no rhubarb strawberry beer on tap....It was in the fridge beside the door when we walked in. Lots of it. But they were still out of it when asked. Lastly the mussels we ordered came with end of bread slices (like we weren’t at a high end restaurant) and the mussels were undercooked. A new batch was brought out and much better but served with onions trying to be onion rings (flour buttered onions that were pan fried). Portion was less than a pound. I enjoy going out to eat but the food must be cooked and the beer should never run out when you’re at a place that brews their own.More

Our friends chose this place to celebrate a birthday. Lovely venue, in a nice area. Food however was disappointing. The description on the menu said one of the items came with "side of fruit". There were about 6 blueberries and 3 raspberries - not what...you would expect for a side. One of our group ordered "The Deadly". The chicken was very nicely done, but the grilled cheese was severely lacking in cheese and very dry. There was one thin piece of peameal bacon, and one piece of bacon. The egg was overcooked, based on what had been ordered. From what I could see, the other items ordered by our group were okay, but no one was raving about them.More

Was recommended to go for oysters. Would not recommend. The sides foe the oysters tasted canned. The 3 variety of oysters they had are normally 3 I like, however they did not have their usual flavour (they weren't bad, just not good). I decided to...have a plate of calamari and that was a mistake. The pieces looked huge but when I actually put my fork into the first few I realised it was mostly batter. They do it in house so there shouldn't be an excuse. The rings themselves were quite small and more than half my plate ended up being chipped off gobs of cooked batter. I sat at the bar and was terribly disappointed with the staff. I believe there were 3 bartender/servers and even the couple next to me commented that it seemed pike they were just avoiding eye contact with most of the people seated at the bar. My plate was done, as was my beer for more than 5 min and I decided to put my coat on to see of that would gwt someone's attention. After about 7 minutes a bartender asked me if I wanted another beer...sure, 10 minutes ago. I did not order another. Paid my tab and left terribly disappointed.More
