Everything is freshly cooked, with great spices and flavors. Nice ambience, view of lake. I love this place, and always come back.

The service was very good and the food was absolutly fantastic. I highly recommend Tara to anybody who wants an excellent dining experience.
I have been going to this restaurant for 30 years. I just picked up twice in the last month. The food was excellent hot temperature wise. The food I had was just the right spice for me. The onion Bhaji was superb, butter chicken yummy...and I had a biryani which was excellent. I would advise going there. Everyone is friendly and my food was ready each time I arrived for pick up. If you are going to Barrie don’t miss this place.More
I have been going here for 25 plus years. It has always been good food and service. Apparently not anymore. inedible food and very poor service. food was awful. i also asked for 2 meals without onions and both meals were full of onions. I...called to tell them about my dissatisfaction and the woman could care less. i will never go there again.More
I would definitely return. The staff were very helpful as to explaining about the menue, as I'm not familiar with Indian Food. My choice was wonderful. I loved the food and it is all made on site, even the Naan Bread. The staff treated me...like family. Great place, Great Food Also it is quiet providing a good place for conversation. I'm looking forward to trying their lunch menu. 5 Stars for this placeMore
Excellent food Good portions Pride of ownership, owner/cook came for a table visit Great dinner with family
As a restaurant owner, I hate leaving reviews of other restaurants especially considering what we have just come through and what we are fighting on a daily basis. My wife and I went here for lunch and unfortunately we can’t say whether the food was...good or bad. We arrived to find server / hostess on the phone behind the bar. After standing at the front door, my wife ended up seating herself. We both then waited at the table for the server and after a period of time we left. As we were approaching the door to leave she ended her conversation so it couldn’t have been that important. My word of advice to the owners is that after being closed to indoor dining for so long we should welcome patrons, not lose patrons because a server is too busy on the Phone.More
We've come to Tara for many special occasions, by ourselves and with friends. We've always been warmly welcomed and have enjoyed the food. We always wind up bringing home leftovers which is welcome as a lunch or light supper the next day.
There were 4 of us and interested in trying a number of different dishes so we ordered the $120 combo meal which we were assured was enough for 4 hungry women - it was. It included a nice variety of curries nnd the heat was...as requested. The service was poor - dishes were not explained, water glasses were not refilled and cutlery was not provided without prompting. The sampler included 2 of each of the items and 2 bowls of soup were brought to the table - why???? Following the meal, we weren't offered coffee of tea and a small bowl with 2 Golub jaman was delivered with a 2" piece of coconut cake. When we asked for cutlery, we got 4 knives when we clearly needed 1 knife and 4 spoons.More
Delicious, peas Palo, samosa, butter chicken, beef vindaloo, veg curry all awesome. We’ve been eating here for many years :).
I haven't even tried their food yet. I placed an order at 4:23 pm for it to be delivered at 6pm June 4, 2021. The website used to place the order, provided the option to pay by credit card at the door, and asked if...I wanted to provide a tip. I selected to pay at door, and included a tip. The website showed that delivery was $5.00. Once the order was placed, the restaurant called and wanted to be paid by credit card over the phone as they did not accept credit card payment at the door. The order finally arrived at 6:30 pm. The delivery driver said he had tried to deliver once previously, but the restaurant had provided the wrong address which resulted in the delay. I confirmed with the delivery receipt that the restaurant had recorded the wrong address. He then told me that the receipt did not include the tip. So I had to add a tip to the bill. I understand as the delivery person they are only the middle man in this situation, I don't not blame this person at all. The responsibility is that of the restaurant. When we opened the order we realized we hadn't received an item we ordered. I figured this was an honest mistake and went to compare the online receipt with the delivered receipt. The math did not add up and they had charged us for the item. They also charged us $8.00 for delivery and not $5.00 as stated on the website. I called and explained what happened and the individual on the phone wanted to argue. He continued to repeat that we were not charged, that the item was not included in the cost, and we received everything we had paid for. He then tried to offer us free dessert for our next order. I said that I would prefer to just receive the missing item instead. He would not stop arguing that we were not charged, and insisted we would have a free dessert on our next order. This was honestly overall abysmal customer service. Do not order from this restaurant's website, they had the incorrect payment option, the incorrect delivery fee, and didn't add the tip I agreed to pay. I will not order from this restaurant again.More
Been eating here since I was in my early twenties. I’m now 51. Today was sadly my last visit to Tara’s. This was a place I would brag about to out of towners. Always had fantastic curry, sauces, tandoori, pakoras, and their amazing naan was...always a bonus! The two owners were always extremely warm and friendly. I realize these are difficult and strange times, but no reason for the poor quality of foods and service today. We are focused on supporting local, but sadly won’t be returning here. Our tandoori chicken and shrimp were overcooked, dry and almost flavourless! The naan was like a frisbee. The lamb korma was the only saviour, but sadly for the price...quite short of hitting any sort of standard. Tara’s has regrettably had its time. Look for an alternative!!!More
I don't know what the problem is, but this has gone from a favourite Barrie restaurant to "we might give them another chance sometime". This was to be my wife's birthday takeout dinner in Covid, so we had good expectations. We ordered, at noon, for...pick-up at 5:15pm. The order was not ready when I arrived at 5:30. Finally at 5:45, after a disagreement on the cost (there were 7 celebrating, so it was hard to work it out, but am pretty sure we got screwed). The man ?owner? said that I was getting a 10% discount as I was paying cash. But it was because there is a discount for pick-up. He said that the "girl" must have got it wrong or my wife must have misunderstood, but I pointed out that I, a male, had placed the order with him. The butter chicken, the aloo gobi and paloo rice were not up to standard. However the lamb curry was delicious. We will not hurray back.More
WARNING: Do not eat here. Let me preface this by saying the quality of food here (which ranges from good to inedible) depends largely on whether or not the owners (two brothers) happen to be in the establishment at the time you order. If they're...in, you might get decent food. If they're not, expect a downgraded version of their regular menu because, apparently, these two brothers can't be bothered to ensure a certain standard in their establishment if they're not present. Let me now get into why this second grade, watered-down version of an "Indian restaurant" should be avoided at all costs. We have on three separate occasions ordered their unsweetened butter chicken (we make it very clear over the phone that we don't want the sugary butter chicken) only to come home after picking up the order and see they've got the order wrong and given us the sweetened version of the dish. They've even, on one occasion, given our pickup order to wrong people and made my wife wait an additional 30 minutes while they re-made our order. On each of these occasions, we've not given them a hard time over these issues, allowed them to fix the order as needed and driven back to the location after driving home to pick our order up with no further requests of compensation/credit etc. We understand they're a small business and mistakes happen so have continued to provide them with business to help support local Barrie establishments. Tonight, on the fourth occurrence of them once again giving us the wrong version of the butter chicken order, I was willing again to drive back to the restaurant (we live across town) to get our food but this time asked for compensation off of one dish because this keeps on occurring and we've wasted time and money without complaint in the past simply trying to retrieve the right dish from the restaurant. While they (reluctantly) did so (after offering me "rice" as compensation), they began to yell at me, telling me they didn't want my business and to not order from them ever again. I was already lowering my standards eating at this pitiful place. And while neither brother unfortunately possesses the talent as chefs to compete with new and better Indian restaurants popping up in the area, they proven tonight that they neither have the business acumen, customer service skills, nor the decency as human beings to be considered a choice for us moving forward. I'd highly urge anyone reading this to not bother gambling their chances at getting a decent meal at an already high price. There are plenty of other (and much better) Indian restaurants in the area who deserve your business. Avoid this rubbish, nonsense establishment at all costs.More
It is Covid-19 time so ordered on the website which brings up "Touch Bistro" service site. Food was ordered at 1:51 pm, receipt reported delivery time of between 6:00 and 6:10 pm. Called Tara at 6:35 pm only to be advised the order was not...received followed by excuses such as we were not working a 1:50 pm and then our fax is not working then an apology. Bottom line, no meal was ever received, the mood at the event was dampened and nothing more than an apology was offered. Tara cannot be depended on to complete their service and I will no longer do any business with them. I advise others to beware.More
