I don't know what the problem is, but this has gone from a favourite Barrie restaurant to "we might give them another chance sometime". This was to be my wife's birthday takeout dinner in Covid, so we had good expectations. We ordered, at noon, for pick-up at 5:15pm. The order was not ready when I arrived at 5:30. Finally at 5:45, after a disagreement on the cost (there were 7 celebrating, so it was hard to work it out, but am pretty sure we got screwed). The man ?owner? said that I was getting a 10% discount as I was paying cash. But it was because there is a discount for pick-up. He said that the "girl" must have got it wrong or my wife must have misunderstood, but I pointed out that I, a male, had placed the order with him. The butter chicken, the aloo gobi and paloo rice were not up to standard. However the lamb curry was delicious. We will not hurray back.

We had been recommended to try Taj Restaurant a block away but upon arrival at 1:50 p.m., we were discourteously informed "We're closed" as we opened the door which had opening hours posted at "11 a.m. - 9 p.m.".
We walked down to Tara and although they were clearing away the lunch buffet, we were warmly welcomed and enjoyed a quiet and tasty lunch served by, we presume, the owner.

Enjoyed a lovely tasty meal at this restaurant. We are used to being asked mild/medium or hot regarding spiciness of the food. Here the focus was on taste and not chilli heat. Our meal was excellent.
We ordered a paratha naan which is hard to find anywhere. We enjoyed our dinner and we were able to take our leftovers back to the hotel to be enjoyed the next day. We sat in the front window and watched the world go by on the main street. This restaurant has a nice ambience to it.
We would recommend.

WARNING: Do not eat here.
Let me preface this by saying the quality of food here (which ranges from good to inedible) depends largely on whether or not the owners (two brothers) happen to be in the establishment at the time you order.
If they're in, you might get decent food. If they're not, expect a downgraded version of their regular menu because, apparently, these two brothers can't be bothered to ensure a certain standard in their establishment if they're not present.
Let me now get into why this second grade, watered-down version of an "Indian restaurant" should be avoided at all costs.
We have on three separate occasions ordered their unsweetened butter chicken (we make it very clear over the phone that we don't want the sugary butter chicken) only to come home after picking up the order and see they've got the order wrong and given us the sweetened version of the dish.
They've even, on one occasion, given our pickup order to wrong people and made my wife wait an additional 30 minutes while they re-made our order.
On each of these occasions, we've not given them a hard time over these issues, allowed them to fix the order as needed and driven back to the location after driving home to pick our order up with no further requests of compensation/credit etc. We understand they're a small business and mistakes happen so have continued to provide them with business to help support local Barrie establishments.
Tonight, on the fourth occurrence of them once again giving us the wrong version of the butter chicken order, I was willing again to drive back to the restaurant (we live across town) to get our food but this time asked for compensation off of one dish because this keeps on occurring and we've wasted time and money without complaint in the past simply trying to retrieve the right dish from the restaurant.
While they (reluctantly) did so (after offering me "rice" as compensation), they began to yell at me, telling me they didn't want my business and to not order from them ever again.
I was already lowering my standards eating at this pitiful place. And while neither brother unfortunately possesses the talent as chefs to compete with new and better Indian restaurants popping up in the area, they proven tonight that they neither have the business acumen, customer service skills, nor the decency as human beings to be considered a choice for us moving forward.
I'd highly urge anyone reading this to not bother gambling their chances at getting a decent meal at an already high price.
There are plenty of other (and much better) Indian restaurants in the area who deserve your business. Avoid this rubbish, nonsense establishment at all costs.

went as a group of 4 Booth table lots of seating area
Food was quick and hot very rich in flavor not cheap like the other restaurant we tried .
The portions were large enough to have take home for lunch next day .
Our group each orders there own main dish and pick a rice dish and veg dish to share .I feel the Tara offers a higher quality of meal in a fine dinning setting priced very reasonable I would recommend them any time ,Butter chicken is the best around not made with tomatoe paste Bohna gosh med just right melt in your mouth with just the right amount of heat .alo palo and mushroom palo rice light and fluffy with lots of flavor
never had a questionable or disappointed dinner always left full with leftovers

Great selection of regional Indian cuisine. The staff was very helpful in recommending the various menu selections based on our tastes and appetite for spicy foods. The portions were very generous and prices were reasonable. The restaurant was comfortable and the staff was friendly and attentive. Between the four of us we had a good selection of six dishes ranging from mild to spicy hot. All the dishes were as expected. I would recommend this place to my family and friends without hesitation.

I haven't even tried their food yet. I placed an order at 4:23 pm for it to be delivered at 6pm June 4, 2021. The website used to place the order, provided the option to pay by credit card at the door, and asked if I wanted to provide a tip. I selected to pay at door, and included a tip. The website showed that delivery was $5.00. Once the order was placed, the restaurant called and wanted to be paid by credit card over the phone as they did not accept credit card payment at the door.
The order finally arrived at 6:30 pm. The delivery driver said he had tried to deliver once previously, but the restaurant had provided the wrong address which resulted in the delay. I confirmed with the delivery receipt that the restaurant had recorded the wrong address. He then told me that the receipt did not include the tip. So I had to add a tip to the bill. I understand as the delivery person they are only the middle man in this situation, I don't not blame this person at all. The responsibility is that of the restaurant.
When we opened the order we realized we hadn't received an item we ordered. I figured this was an honest mistake and went to compare the online receipt with the delivered receipt. The math did not add up and they had charged us for the item. They also charged us $8.00 for delivery and not $5.00 as stated on the website. I called and explained what happened and the individual on the phone wanted to argue. He continued to repeat that we were not charged, that the item was not included in the cost, and we received everything we had paid for. He then tried to offer us free dessert for our next order. I said that I would prefer to just receive the missing item instead. He would not stop arguing that we were not charged, and insisted we would have a free dessert on our next order.
This was honestly overall abysmal customer service. Do not order from this restaurant's website, they had the incorrect payment option, the incorrect delivery fee, and didn't add the tip I agreed to pay. I will not order from this restaurant again.

There were 4 of us and interested in trying a number of different dishes so we ordered the $120 combo meal which we were assured was enough for 4 hungry women - it was. It included a nice variety of curries nnd the heat was as requested. The service was poor - dishes were not explained, water glasses were not refilled and cutlery was not provided without prompting. The sampler included 2 of each of the items and 2 bowls of soup were brought to the table - why???? Following the meal, we weren't offered coffee of tea and a small bowl with 2 Golub jaman was delivered with a 2" piece of coconut cake. When we asked for cutlery, we got 4 knives when we clearly needed 1 knife and 4 spoons.

It is Covid-19 time so ordered on the website which brings up "Touch Bistro" service site. Food was ordered at 1:51 pm, receipt reported delivery time of between 6:00 and 6:10 pm.
Called Tara at 6:35 pm only to be advised the order was not received followed by excuses such as we were not working a 1:50 pm and then our fax is not working then an apology.
Bottom line, no meal was ever received, the mood at the event was dampened and nothing more than an apology was offered.
Tara cannot be depended on to complete their service and I will no longer do any business with them.
I advise others to beware.

We've come to Tara for many special occasions, by ourselves and with friends. We've always been warmly welcomed and have enjoyed the food. We always wind up bringing home leftovers which is welcome as a lunch or light supper the next day.

Been eating here since I was in my early twenties. I’m now 51. Today was sadly my last visit to Tara’s. This was a place I would brag about to out of towners. Always had fantastic curry, sauces, tandoori, pakoras, and their amazing naan was always a bonus! The two owners were always extremely warm and friendly. I realize these are difficult and strange times, but no reason for the poor quality of foods and service today. We are focused on supporting local, but sadly won’t be returning here. Our tandoori chicken and shrimp were overcooked, dry and almost flavourless! The naan was like a frisbee. The lamb korma was the only saviour, but sadly for the price...quite short of hitting any sort of standard. Tara’s has regrettably had its time. Look for an alternative!!!

Had a great meal here. Excellent onion bhajis followed by a superb Chicken Dansak. I have eaten the Dansak all over the world and this is hands down the best. Staff are attentive and friendly, with prompt service and good portions made from top quality ingredients. Definitely worth multiple visits.

As a restaurant owner, I hate leaving reviews of other restaurants especially considering what we have just come through and what we are fighting on a daily basis. My wife and I went here for lunch and unfortunately we can’t say whether the food was good or bad. We arrived to find server / hostess on the phone behind the bar. After standing at the front door, my wife ended up seating herself. We both then waited at the table for the server and after a period of time we left. As we were approaching the door to leave she ended her conversation so it couldn’t have been that important.
My word of advice to the owners is that after being closed to indoor dining for so long we should welcome patrons, not lose patrons because a server is too busy on the Phone.

If you want to have authentic Indian food, Tara's is the place to go. The Saag Paneer features spinach, but is not the green mush you usually get. It sparkles with added tomatoes and onions and a generous helping of paneer. The other dishes are equally well prepared with skillful attention to seasoning and balance. This is food made with love and care!
