This place gets mostly high reviews and deserves them. The only reason we went here was the TripAdvisor reviews.
From the moment we walked in it felt like we were in London. And the menu is about as typical ‘Pub’ as you can get. From...Bangers and Mash to the inevitable curries, it felt English. The back ribs and the ‘Best Wings in Town’ are a more Canadian touch.
My granddaughter, who is a foodie, was looking for something light this night, so she opted for the Chicken Caesar; it was huge, she took half home. She pronounced it very good with tender, moist chicken.
I had the Shepard’s Pie. It is listed under ‘Pub Fare and Comfort Food’. It was both. Perhaps the best Shepard’s Pie I have ever eaten except when I make it myself. The gravy was bubbling when it came so I had to eat carefully. Every bite was good, but I certainly needed the cold pint alongside.
The one glitch: my wife had the calamari. They are listed as ‘Lightly Breaded and Deep Fried’ on the menu. ‘Burnt to a Crisp and Tough’ would be a better description. I have seen them criticized in other reviews. The proper cooking time for calamari is very short, maybe 3 minutes maximum in the oil. Less is better than more, or they get tough. These were pretty much inedible. Kaitlyn, our excellent and very pleasant server, had them removed from the bill. They won’t prevent us from coming back, but the problem would be easy to fix. It is Line Cooking 101. Or take them off the menu if your cooks can’t figure it out.More
