I have visited The Poacher twice for a drink and light meal. Although it is primarily a bar, food is readily available. The beer selection is very good. On the second visit, we wanted a snack with drinks, and we got a side order of fries, which was HUGE Highly recommended.

There are two places of this name listed in Burlington so I hope this one applies. This is one of 2 English-style pubs in Burlington (the other one is the Queen's Arms, which we also tried). Contrary to some unfavourable reviews, when we went the service was good and friendly. The full menu finished around 10 p.m. but the after-hours snacks (nachos etc.) were perfectly adequate. Some good beers too.

The Poacher is a blessing in pub culture. It feels like a genuine british pub, the staff are friendly as ...., and seem to actually enjoy being there. The food is perfect pub food. They have dart-boards. What more can I say. I hope that the Poacher can re-open one day. Sincerely.

We HAD always enjoyed this spot, especially the patio but in the last year or two the place is dirty, tired and most of all the staff are slow and some can be rude. Poor management overall. We were there for dinner and it took them 20 min. to get us a drink because "they were busy" Well my husband was in a bit of a hurry too and had to go to work by 6pm so we were expecting a bit faster and more polite service. One man got served before us that came in after and one waitress was cleaning a table(there were many available inside) whilst we were sitting waiting. Not sure why we dint leave except that we needed to be out by 6pm . Wont go there for a long time. Its unfortunate because we did love everything about it many years ago. Not sure if origianal owners are absent or sold but it sure isnt like it used to be.

The Poacher is our local pub which we have frequented and enjoyed on many occasions. However, our most recent visit proved to be utterly disappointing on a number of issues. We sat at the last available patio table which had been recently vacated, but had not yet been cleaned. We were expecting our server to clean the table before taking our order. When we asked to see the wine list, she proceeded to grab a menu from patrons at a nearby table and placed it in front of us. I asked if she would be sanitizing our table and menu at which point she became annoyed and somewhat belligerent. With attitude, she suggested we vacate the table while she wiped it down with a bleach solution. We did so, and she proceeded to totally saturate the table and menu to the point where the bleach solution was dripping everywhere. She suggested we wait until it dried before sitting at the table. I grabbed some napkins from a nearby station to dry off the table and menu so we could be seated. Although some of the servers did a good job cleaning the table and visa machine after each client, during our two hour visit, we did not see our particular server sanitize any menu or table, she was waiting on. Management should ensure ALL of their staff are following proper procedures to help prevent the spread of Covid 19. This type of negligence is totally unacceptable!

My visit to The Poacher was a very disappointing experience. I ordered a beer at the bar, but when it arrived, I noticed there was a fly in it. I was disgusted. I brought this to the attention of the bar staff, expecting a quick resolution. Instead, I was met with rudeness and was told that nothing would be done about it. This response was not only unprofessional but also unacceptable from a hygiene standpoint. I was left feeling disrespected and frustrated by the lack of concern for customer satisfaction and basic cleanliness. I hope The Poacher takes this feedback seriously and addresses these issues to ensure a better experience for future customers.

The spot has a lot of potential unfortunately it has been neglected. Tables and chairs are worn and dirty, benches are sticky and dead flies and bees lay in the windowsill. The food is average and service is good once you get a servers attention. The bonus is the free parking.

Great pub. Traditional decor, with an old feel to the place. Nice patio to enjoy the weather. Various cask ales available. Nice clean washrooms. Great pint had! Friendly attentive staff. Great service. Would recommend.

Our favourite spot after a day of work. Several of us go early on a Friday evening and are never disappointed.

Great service combined with good food and atmosphere in downtown Burlington. View from the patio was eclectic as we observed the hustle and bustle of nearby streets.

Love this place for its terrace and casual comfortable feel. Service is good and prices are reasonable but I am surprised by the fish and chips we were served yesterday... Fish was dry and chips was few little bits of potatoes scattered on the plate .. definitely not the way I remembered it from our previous lunch there.. new chef??

Went here for a casual drink and got refused service for no reason at all! They seem to not like the younger generation and discriminate against us! Anyone who are young adults I would avoid this place at all cost both locals and tourists! Never will I ever got back to a place which me and my partner got treated so disgusting at!

Good food and service, casual dining, great fish and chips. Unique, friendly atmosphere and appearance. Happy patrons are quite noisy, making conversation difficult. There is handy parking behind the building.

Most noticeably the demeanor of the service staff is off-putting. Used o be friendly and had the feel of a local pub one would like to frequent. Now a last resort destination in Burlington. Try for yourself and go with low expectations. Maybe you will be surprised to the upside instead.
