I am a regular customer at Choun Kitchen, love the quaint historic building atmosphere, outdoor patio, free wifi access, and warmth of family and staff servers. Bobby the cook/owner does an amazing job, consistently preparing my favourites. Wonton soup, meatball soup, rice paper wraps with...tofu or pork and vermicelli noodles with finely chopped veggies, garnished with peanut sauce, are my favourites. I tried the Banh Mi (baguette sandwich) once, which comes as a combo with wonton soup at almost half the regular soup price. I am eager to try their new Egg Noodle Soup, but the portion is huge with lots of ingredients (so I am told). The restaurant artwork is unique, some done by Bobby's niece. If you like elephants, these are part of the decor. Whether you live nearby or are visiting the area, this is a must see for eat-in or take out. What a huge asset to the Hespeler Village and district. A family run business. Homemade family recipes from Laos. If you just want beverages, these are available also....not your average coffee shoppe, but equivalent atmosphere. The Fashion Museum is across the street in the old historic former Canada Post Office and the restaurant is within walking distance of local shoppes. 10 minutes drive to the Highway 401 via Townline Road or Highway 24 exits. Come and visit on weekends for the Hespeler Village festival with street closure. Choun Kitchen is across the street from the Friday afternoon/evening summer market in front of the Old Town Hall. Washrooms are exceptionally clean and upscale. For disability access, a bit of a challenge. The hill down to their lower level is tough, but there is a sturdy handrail along the well-built wooden stairs to go down also.More

I went to the restaurant for lunch on a Saturday in a group of 7 people. The service was very prompt. 3 of us had the lettuce wraps and the others had the Pad Thai. We all enjoyed our meals. The Pad Thai portions were...huge! The restaurant is in an old stone building that has been attractively renovated, in the heart of Hespeler, near the Fashion History Museum on Queen St. Recommended!More

My wife and I visited Choun's on Valentine's evening for a romantic dinner for 2. The food was excellent as always, the portions were generous, the service was excellent, Rachel was a wonderful host, the ambiance was beautiful, The special for $40 for 2, an...appetizer, 2 mains and a desert was more than enough food and great value for money. Since they opened in hespeler village they have done very well. A hidden gem. Even though they were fully booked for this special day we managed to squeeze in early without a reservation.More

Was very intrigued by the reviews so tried it. Was so disappointed. The server was so unfriendly. Only had one selection of wine, one red, that was it. Not only did she not pour it, she did not even open it. She just bluntly put...the unopened bottle on the table. Ordered the Lemon Chicken and the cut of chicken was not recognizable. The curry was very good. It is a sweet location and space but likely the worst server I have ever had. Has great potential.More

The food is excellent. The service is outstanding and the staff very friendly. Down a path under the main Queen Street stores and easy to miss, but don't. It is worth a stop.

The reviews I read were impressive so we tried it out. We found the menu to be quite limited and mostly pork based entrees. I was expecting a larger portion for the price. The lack of service from the waitress was head scratching given that...there were only 3 occupied tables at the time. The building is quite unique and the interior is well done. Tried it...don't expect to be back.More

Too often we overlook what's right under our nose! After a big debate about a lunch venue that spanned 2 or 3 cities, we decided to simplify and try Choun Kitchen - 5 min from home. What a great decision. A really nifty little spot...- a bit tucked away, but on the main street in Hespeler and not hard to find. Nice mix of modern and heritage architecture creates an enjoyable atmosphere. Food choices were a more interesting and novel than the usual noodle joint options -- indeed, this spot is a full cut above that. Our food was extremely tasty and very fresh tasting. Portions were generous. The menu is not pages and pages long, but there are more than enough options. The sense is they do what they do and do it well. We will definitely return.More

I saw a review so I wanted to give this place a try. I will definitely go back. Friendly staff, but have to say you wait for your food so don't be starving when you go. They cook everything fresh and the flavours are wonderful....Looking forward to going back to try other items on the menu.......the Thai Curry is a winner!!More

We heard wonderful reviews about this new restaurant and just had to try. Location: the restaurant is somewhat tucked away in downtown Hespeler (part of Cambridge), a "hidden gem" of sorts, but worth the find. It is below street level so a short walk "off...road" and there you are! Patio: there is an outdoor patio which is lovely because it is situated off of the main road - less noisy. Parking: plenty of free parking in downtown Hespeler both on street and in a parking lot. Inside dining: the atmosphere and decor is relaxing, clean, and well lit. Food: the menu isn't extensive, but we think that may grow and/or change over time. The food that we had was simply delicious!! We dined on the the fresh wraps, crispy rice balls, Vietnam noodle bowl and the curry chicken. All was excellent - fresh, delicious and good sized portions. Service: a family run restaurant, service is friendly, relaxing and helpful when making menu selections. We will definitely be back!!More
