We had a fantastic Valentine's Day experience over the lockdown. The ordering and pick-up logistics were perfect and our food was delicious and fresh and at a good temperature when we got home. I actually used a gift card that I had received from Blackshop...from our visit there for our anniversary. On our anniversary the meal was delicious but my serving was pretty small. I let them know that and they apologized and gave us a gift card for our next visit. We appreciated their professionalism and follow-up service.More

The lobster bisque was well prepared, loved the pan seared and the farfalle pasta. The service was quick and the food was good

Blackshop is a wonderful escape. You'll never be disappointed with the food, service, or beverage. Wish I could score higher than 5

Given our long standing patronage to the Blackshop, we chose to pick up their special Thanksgiving Day meal as a treat. The overall quality & quantity were very disappointing especially given the cost. This experience does not encourage us to return.

We went to the Blackshop for our Thanksgiving diner on the Sunday night. We had reservations for 5:30pm. At 4pm they called us to let us know they had run out of turkey and we could not have the special Thanksgiving diner. We were a...bit disappointed but they had the prime rib. We were seated promptly. The tables were well spaced out but I was expecting better for the setting; no tablecloth, no candles, nothing but cutlery and napkins. We ordered the prime rib special for $44: ceasar salad (which was excellent), prime rib (asked for medium rare and was a bit overdone) and buttermilk potatoes (too watery). The jus was blend and could have used a bit of herbs or spices. Our waiter Alex was very good and informative. He was pleasant and not over invasive. For dessert we had the pumpkin cheesecake which was excellent. It was not a bad experience however I thought it would be a bit fancier for that kind of restaurant who says they are the best restaurant in Cambridge.More

Enjoyed it here before & it was the reason we came back. This time it was ok. I’d go to the Keg instead. They were out of most appetizers on menu. Out of a things on menu which is smaller. Out of most seafood items...too. We paid a lot for smaller portions & a smaller menu from time we walked in. It was almost a joke by the time we got to dessert. Ordered dessert to be told later sorry we are now out of that too. Maybe this will be the new norm with Covid.More

My husband and I went for dinner tonight. He wanted the prime rib dinner special , rare and was told there was only two pieces left that were medium (at 5:30pm). I ordered the shrimp poke bowl for $35 and was really disappointed. The broccoli...and sweet potato were dried up, same as the Luke warm shrimp. Way over priced and lacked taste. I could ha e gone to Freshii and ordered something similar for $14.More

So, I will start by saying the steak was great on the night we were there. All 4 meals were quite good. Now, this place charges down town Toronto prices for food and drink. Almost $10 dollars for a pint which is just disgusting in...a place like Cambridge. They really should be ashamed of them selved. For 4 people with a few drinks expect to pay well in excess of $300 with a tip. Now, for the most scandalous thing I have come across recently in any restaurant. The waitress asked if we wanted mushrooms on our steak. Yes, of course,t hinking "well steak always comes with steak and onion in every restraurant I have ever been in every restaurant in all of my travels". So, out comes the meal with this tiny portion of mushrooms and when we got the bill find out the mushrooms that are normally free were $8 per person. $dollars for mushroom, are you kidding me? Your owners are disgusting people. Your waitress not only did not tell use their was a charge, but she should have a bell around her neck that she rings every time a gullable fool falls for your mushroom scam. You can try and be the posh nose up restaurant of Cambridge all you want, but you lost 4 patrons that would have been regulars and will not only not recomment you, but will advise everyone we know to not go their. Your restaurant is now a running jok in our circle of friends.More

Daughter and son-in-law moving back to Ontario from out west and settling in Cambridge for the long term. Celebration dinner at what we thought was the best restaurant in the city and while there was a lot of positives the two things that stood out...was the medium-rare tenderloin I ordered was medium-well and while I should have sent it back I didn’t want to make a scene with my daughters in-laws. The other thing was when we asked for the bill and a couple of times subsequently as my wife and I had a long drive home it took 35 minutes to get it. Unacceptable and while I still gave the standard tip it wasn’t deserved. A lot good things to say about Blackshop but those two things are what I will remember. Was hoping Blackshop was going to be be our go to celebration place for years to come but now will have to check out other places!More

My steak was undercooked (I ordered medium rare and got rare) and not even warm. The service had been so unbearably slow and the server so overwhelmed and confused that, rather than ask for it to be replaced, I ate what was delivered and just...wanted to get out of there. There was nothing about the experience that left my wife and I wanting to ever return. We were treated to this dinner by another couple -- another reason we didn't express our disappointment about it while we there.More
