We were returning to Hamilton from Guelph and decided to stop for takeout dinners. Got 2 Chopped Sirloin with fried onions, came with roast potatoes and choice of salad or soup...salad was fresh - and I have had their soup before which is spectacular.
Truly a wonderful comfort food meal, made the old fashioned way with loving care. Service was efficient and bright, courteous. We went inside to order, and they brought our order out to the car.

We love The Village for breakfast - great selection and great taste. Lunch and dinner is also fabulous. Friday night Fall off the bone ribs are the BEST RIBS we've ever had.... you have to get there early to avoid waiting for a table but even if you need to wait - the great food makes it worth your while.

For eat-in or take away this little restaurant is hard to beat. Outside it looks a bit cheesy and inside it is a little dated and small but the food is very good and plentiful. Service is great and cost is excellent. During the COVID lock down it was our go-to for take-out. My only concern is that some of the food dishes can be a bit greasy (oily?) at times. This will be fine for some patrons but not for others.
Overall it is good food and great value.

Great home cooked meals from scratch. Staff is super friendly and accommodating. Made exceptions for gluten free options. Prices are amazing, portion size is massive and place is a traditional diner atmosphere... cozy and relaxed. Love it.

The is place is amazing, I ordered the Grill Cheese Cheeseburger and I did not expect the large portion size. I added a side Greek salad that was half of the plate.

I couldn’t help but notice that the females who order the breakfast special receive square plates where the males receive much larger oval plates. The oval male plates have at least twice as much potatoes and 2 slices of bread where the ladies receive 1 slice. If the prices and the menu description where to detail this gender bias I would not have any objection however, why are the ladies paying the same for a smaller meal?. Although this is disturbing if the food was decent I might overlook it however the eggs and bacon were very greasy and the potatoes taste like they have been sitting far too long. This was my second and final visit.

All of our classic breakfasts are served on square plates. The larger oval plates are used to serve omelettes and our breakfast combos (which is a large portion of food, hence the oval plates). All our breakasts are served with 2 slices of toast. To suggest that we offer gender-biased breakasts is absolutely ridiculous.

Don't be fooled by the exterior. Walk into this very down to earth, local restaurant with delicious food. It is very warm and welcoming.
Came for breakfast and the homefries were honestly the best I have had (finished with onions and peppers).
Excellent value for the meals.

Don't let the outside deter you... It appears to be situated on a lot that was previously housed a gas station as well. There were broken down cars around the side/back.
This is a rural family diner with a very casual atmosphere. Different clients seemed to know each other which suggested to me that it has a strong following with local residents.
Inside is a small dining area with basic decor with a relaxed atmosphere with friendly service. We decided to try the Grilled Cheese Cheeseburger and fries. This was a burger surrounded by a grilled cheese sandwich (sorry Doc, not the healthiest meal). This turned out to be a really good burger with a generous helping of bacon, and perfectly sauteed onions.
The portions were very generous and prices reasonable. We will definitely go back whenever we are in the area.

A nice place to stop after traveling on the 401 for a while. Not too out of the way. My kids enjoyed being able to choose a toy out of the treasure box after their meal.

Very simply, with the price increases, this place ceases to be good value. We were regulars, but this was probably the last time I'll be there. A country resto trying to grow up poorly. The road construction will not help business either. Service has improved a bit, but not enough to make a difference.

Thank you for comments. We appreciate your past patronage, and are sorry to hear that you won't be returning. Our recent price increases are our first in 5 years of operation. We held off for as long as possible, but were forced to increase them due to rising costs of labour and supplies. We have, and will continue to have, the best quality food and portions in the area.

A fun day at the Donkey Sanctuary with family and dropped into The Village Family Restaurant in Aberfoyle. Glad we did , My daughter had a double decker Grilled Cheese with salad perfect for lunch my wife the cheeseburger and certainly no complaints and again with salad, I chose the fish and chips will say superb fries, fish a bit greasy but still well within the OK range, added a Greek Salad which was excellent. Small unassuming kind of place but in the area worth the drop in.

A colleague was meeting me in Guelph for an event and asked that I send an invite for breakfast “someplace good”. I checked out several offerings and based on the overall great reviews and location I settled on The Village Family Restaurant. The decor is a bit dated, clean and comfortable, well maintained. The service was friendly and accommodating. The food....oh my goodness. Portions are enormous so bring your appetite or plan on sharing! And the food was great. Not greasy, it was fresh and home cooked. My friend ordered eggs and peameal
Bacon (three beautiful slices) with a single
Pancake. I ordered an omelette. Her single pancake was...No Joke.... 16 inches across. It was served on a large pizza pan! And was cooked perfectly. Only think that would kick this over the top was to
Serve with real Maple syrup. If you are a stickler for that, being your own. The pancake is a steal at only 2.99!!!! I will definitely be back and will bring my kids to see if they can polish off a small stack!

Went to eat here prior to going to the Aberfoyle Antique Market and a preview of an auction. The food here is excellent, very large portions, you will need a take out container. Fabulous breakfast with uniquely flavoured home fries. Strongly suggest you visit here, it is a busy place, so may be a bit of a wait but definitely worth it. We will be back, it's worth the drive from Rockwood.

I've been there oh a crapload of times. Fav night is Fridays. Bbq ribs. You get a soup to start with an amazing Greek salad with your meal. Slow all day cooked ribs fall off the bone. It's always a struggle to eat it all with defeat every time.
