Our favourite diner in the city

This our our favourite place to come for a casual breakfast or lunch as a couple or with friends the morning after a night out. Food is great and the service is fast and really friendly. We’ve tried the classic breakfast items like bacon/sausage and eggs and eggs benedict which were good, Greek salad was also good. There is a great deal on the Montreal smoked meat sandwich where you get a second sandwich with your order for 25 cents. The smoked meat sandwiches are tasty and stacked high with lots of meat. The order also comes with fries and coleslaw. This is a great inexpensive lunch option to share between two people, the bill comes about $20 with coffee after tax and tip. One thing to keep in mind is this restaurant gets very busy during peak times on the weekend so you might have to wait for a table and it can be difficult to get a parking spot at times. Overall this is a great casual spot with good food, fair prices and excellent service.

Excellent Food - Excellent Value!

The last time I reviewed was in 2019 and the West End Diner remains a gem. The best part is that the food is prepared like it is home-made.......none of those prepackaged meals that get put into a microwave. All the food is reasonably priced considering the quality. The seniors menu is a great value, but not much more if you choose other items from a large menu. We sat outside on a warmer evening, but they seem to have good controls inside with plexiglass dividers. Service is always excellent and friendly....makes for a great outing!

One of my favourite places to dine, breakfast, lunch or dinner

Have been here many times and have never been disappointed . The servers are always friendly and are great workers. There are many, many choices for any time of day. They even have a senior's menu that includes free coffee or tea. We are mostly here for breakfast and all of the choices are great. Their bacon is very nicely done. All of their sandwiches(many choices) are very, very good. I love their Hamburger Steak dinner. Dinners come with choice of soup or salad and two sides. Lots of food every meal. We will continue to visit this restaurant and recommend it to all.

My group were in recently for breakfast. While waiting for our food, we chatted and I also watched the kitchen staff because of something that caught my eye as soon as we sat down. I had a clear view from where I was sitting. I saw the gentleman, preparing our food and everyone else's food, take drags off of a cigarette a couple of times and he was obviously trying to be discreet. But he didn't do a very good job because I saw the glowing red and the smoke. No one in the kitchen area was wearing a hair net or a beard covering. The description of some of the breakfasts offerings say you get baked beans with your meal. The beans came in this teeny tiny plastic cup. Picture those small take away containers that might have a bit of sauce in them to go along with your food. Well, that's the amount of baked beans you get. And..the portions were not even the same between the people at my table. One small cup was full while another was maybe two thirds full. I would have preferred they skipped the 'canned' baked beans and put the effort toward another part of the breakfast. The waffles themselves were good, however, you get one (made up of 4 sections) for the price which I believe was $10 or $11. Any toppings would be extra. Honestly, I could not get past the fact that the guy was smoking and cooking our food while wearing no hair net. Yes...people probably do it in their own homes but this is a public eating establishment where they must comply with Public Health guidelines. Would I recommend this restaurant? What do you think?

To busy for servers to handle!!!!

I went for lunch with my coworker. I ordered a small greek salad and she a dinner which came with a side salad. They brought the salads and gave her mine and I ended up with a side salad which cost 13.99!!! It was not worth it. I didn't realize until after she had mine and vise versa. I asked the server if it was wrong and she apologized but nothing was done. The servers should have made sure the food was going to the correct person and in this case adjusted my bill. We were rushed so had to take our food to go. I had an omelette as well that I took to go. I just had a bite that was full of eggshells. It was an expensive lunch that I didn't get to enjoy and I think it could have been avoided if they had more staff to eliminate the stress the servers were under so they could concentrate more on their tables.

We went inside and was told to put our name and number of people on paper and go wait outside. We saw others waiting outside so we assumed they would call our name. It was busy there on a Monday. I went back inside at one point to see about the wait and she says you want to eat inside or outside. I said it didn’t really matter, whatever becomes available. She said nothing after that so I went back outside. Continued to wait. I realized after a bit that a few couples that came well after us were sitting inside already. I went inside to ask why they got seated and we didn’t , that we have been waiting a long time and those people had just got here. She says that’s people waiting for outside tables, you can just sit yourself inside. I couldnt believe the attitude the waitress gave me because I was clearly upset. I had a right to be upset. They should have been clearer. I’m sure they saw us standing outside for like ever. Anyway we had the breakfast, and it was very good, coffee was good. Service was good after the initial upset. I would come here again to try other things.

Flew in last night and needed a meal this restaurant was close by so went in for a meal was met at door by very friendly lady had a good supper and good visit by friendly waitress (bree) . The experience was great so decided to go back for breakfast this morning what a great experience very friendly people found out the restaurant is owned by Monica, I had the best eggs beni I have ever had my wife had bacon and eggs she said they were very good, we were served by saundra very pleasant but I think she forgot to put on her smile today still very good waitress. We will be back prices are a bit high but you will get food for your dollar

Food that truly tastes home made, and the prices are reasonable. The staff are always pleasant and efficient. We tend to opt for the Seniors Menu which is a tremendous value, includes a main course, salad or soup, two sides and a beverage. Always an enjoyable experience.

Ordered Sloppy Joe and liver and onions Sloppy Joe was a piece of meat on a bun covered in sauce.It was soggy and not even a sloppy joe.My liver and onions no onions,they gave us baked potatoes instead of mashed potatoes. This used to be one of my dads favorite,on this particler day we were visting my dads grave down the street. Very disappointed

Had a great lunch with family members-Thanks West End Diner

Have eaten here many times for breakfasts , lunches and dinners. We had a birthday get together and my biggest problem is that it is hard to decide what to order-they have so many good choices. We had the seniors hamburger steak, the hot roast beef sandwich and the tuna salad sandwich. They all came with soup or salad, two sides and a drink. All of them were great, with super tastes and lots of food. The staff, here, are fantastic. Our server today was very nice, had a great sense of humour and was very patient . What a nice person she is. The owner is always friendly and often comes over to say hi. This is one of my favourite places to eat and I will return many more times in the future. Thanks West End Diner.

This is our favourite spot to stop into for a late breakfast or lunch. All the food is always tasty and served fresh and hot. I usually get the liver and onions and love it. Their seniors specials are very generous and are priced well. Would highly recommend.

I have visited this diner several times over the years and have been happy with it but I was very disappointed tonight. Is there a new owner? The food was ok but the service was very slow. I know that places can have staff shortages so I can accept that. The biggest problem was the smell of smoke permeating the place. We were sure someone was smoking just outside an open door. Then we were inundated with the smell of pot. Our meal was ruined by the smells. It’s sad to see a nice family restaurant go downhill this way.

Went to West End Diner for brunch with a friend. There was so much food that we could have shared an order. Eggs Benedict was excellent. Nice serving of fruit and plenty of home fries. My only complaint which had nothing to do with the West End Diner was parking. Although there is a large parking lot, when we got there it was packed with no parking spaces to be found.

Discovered this restaurant this summer and have eaten here about 6 times on my weekly trips to Dundas. The food was fresh and portions extremely generous. We’ve found staff and management very pleasant and accommodating. It’s our go to place for comfort food

My husband and were walking in Dundas Valley conservation area. I was hunger and we stopped for a late lunch. I ordered gyro dinner which came with full size greek salad, and two sides. I also ordered liver and onions dinner for take out. Wow I was not able to finish my dinner and took it home also.
