I had the great fortune of having a wonderful meal at Curry Original at their new location on Baggot Street. I am gluten and dairy intolerant and could eat much of what was on the menu. For starters, we had light and crispy papadums and onion bhaji that came with a wonderful sauce. They were light and crisp on the outside and soft and tender on the inside. For my main, I had the shrimp Phatia, which was a wonderfully complex layer of flavours - spicy, tangy, sweet and just the right saltiness. The vegetables were perfectly cooked - still a little crisp, and the shrimp was plump and juicy (not over cooked and rubbery the way shrimp curry is often served at other places). My dining companion had the Shrimp Bhuna which was equally delicious. The rice pulao was intricately spiced and a wonderful accompaniment. The prices were very reasonable considering the quality and quantity of food. The service was quick, very friendly and attentive. The restaurant is under new management in their new location, but the chef is the accomplished house chef of over 25 years. The patio was well spaced, which I appreciate as the pandemic is not quite over yet! Other patios still cram their customers in. I felt very safe, and stayed dry despite there being a light drizzle, thanks to the large, well placed overlapping patio umbrellas. This restaurant is just a three to five minute walk from city hall, and we’ll worth the trip! If you want to be sure there is space (as it is very popular, for good reason!), then call ahead as they do take reservations. If they don’t pick up the phone, just leave a message and they will call back promptly. I will definitely be back!

We visited this restaurant on a very busy Friday evening, we asked for a table on their patio and we got one. I do recommend the patio on a nice warm day/night, it is very pleasant.
We ordered the samosa for appetizer, they were fresh and very tasty. My wife ordered chicken tandoori and I ordered the shrimp tandoori; both were excellent and the rice was made to perfection.
The service was fantastic; the server came several times to check on us and she was very polite. After we finished our meal the chef came to our table and asked if we enjoyed our meal, of course we did :)
I highly recommend this restaurant, good food, nice atmosphere.

Nice location on patio. Service was great, quick. Ordered Vegetarion meal for 2 split between 3 people. Restaurant added extra dessert for free. Unfortunately the flavour was very dull. None of the usual exotic mix of spice and heat. Very disappointed. No interest in having seconds. Also the dessert that was included was a coconut pudding/cake that I didn't like. It was brought out without being given any choice. I really wanted gulab jamin.

Very disapointed in the food and decor. Duct tape on cables and wires. Service was slow but once served they wanted us to pay and go. Very few people in restaurant for a Satruday. Watched them clean tables they never changed the tabble clothes they just wiped them down with a rag and set the table for next customer. Food was bland, butter chicken was ok and biryani was again just ok, garlic naan was good. Half a litre of not expensive wine was $33.00 we thought that was a little much. We have been twice wont be going back

This restaurant has moved to a location very close to my work, so I gave it a try today. Overall, I was disappointed. The butter chicken was weirdly very sweet. The description said it had raisins, peanuts, fried onions and almonds. There were two peanuts (perhaps the rest were ground?), NO raisins, NO fried onions and NO almonds. None whatsoever. The chicken itself was tender and tasty, but literally the dish was sauce, and chicken, and nothing else. The sauce was very thin, and also looked a bit curdled - like if you were to add citrus to a milky dish. Pappadums were yummy, rice was fine, if not a little undercooked, but that could just be personal preference. I may consider coming again and trying another dish, but I'll have to think about it - my palao rice, butter chicken and two pappadums came to over 30 dollars, which hurt a bit given the disappointing dish. However the staff were very friendly and prompt, so that was good at least.

I was expecting exceptionally delicious food due to the name "CURRY ORIGINAL"
In the past I have been to the "original" curry original restaurant many times during my stop over at Kingston. That place no longer exists, so I decided to go to this one because of the same name.
I ordered Madras chicken, which tasted like turmeric powder. The chicken curry was bland.
The serving was extremely small!
I ended up paying 65.00 for food that I didn't enjoy.
I am definitely never going back to this place!

We read the reviews, and looked at the website. We believed by images and description that we were booked at a fine Indian restaurant. It's not. Geared more towards takeout. For a Friday night, the restaurant was quiet. In the background, we could hear the TV broadcast of an Indian detective series, not music. Decor/setting was not what we expected. Duct tape visible on the vent. While the restaurant advertised its curry, our curried shrimp was bland. We were early for a show, and just wanted to sit and enjoy the last of our wine and said so. But we were immediately asked to settle the bill. I found it a bit jarring.

Original??? Come on needs a name change for sure.. may be Curry duplicate.. worst food I have had ever..
Yellow color power everywhere. All Rice pulavs + biryanis + gravies etc.. no taste or flavor..
Ask for spicy u will get a cup of chilli.powder added in there..
Too costly!!! Not even worth any money.

This is the top rated indian restaurant in Kingston and for good reason. - the food is fantastic. We had a wonderful dinner sitting outside on their small deck. The food was delicious and just the right quantity for the two of us. The location is a short walk from the centre of town but very well worth it.

Enjoyed a very tasty meal (including the spectacular fluffy naan) with friends the other night. The patio is wonderfully peaceful providing the perfect spot to enjoy a warm summer evening. The staff were all very kind and provided excellent service.

The food here is outstanding, as is the service. The inside of the restaurant is tired-looking, and the lighting is way too bright. But who cares, when the food and the service are so good. I will definitely go back.

Curry was very watered down and bland. Chicken was cut in very thin strips, but really the thing that put it over the top was the hair inside the meal. Unfortunately, won't be going back there.
