Lots of choices for vegetarians here (more than I am used to seeing in the standard Indian restaurants in London): breads, curries (lentil, chickpeas, potatoes, spinach/paneer, plus more), appetizers and desserts/savoury snacks. Everything looks and tastes very fresh, and the place is always busy with...mainly Indian people, from single customers, to families, and friends dining out.
The place is designed mainly for take out it seems. The dining area is very basic, with maybe 7 or 8 tables? Nothing fancy, but it is clean and there is free water in jugs and lots of napkins, so it is comfortable and convenient to eat in, if you desire to do so. There is a TV that seems to be showing some type of Bollywood style of movie or something.
There is a display area for the hot, ready to serve curries on one side of the counter, and then desserts/savoury snacks on the other side counter. You order at the cashier and then someone goes into the kitchen to prepare it and pack it for you, or they put it on a tray for you to eat in.The menu is quite extensive, and some of the stuff we had not heard of before,as this is quite different than our usual Indian restaurants here, so we asked a lot of questions. The staff were good with answering but it was very busy- it worked more smoothly for us the second time we went, as we knew the routine of how to order, and what we liked. It might have been easier for us if there had been photos and more descriptions of each item on the menu, which is basically a take out menu...the appetizer selection was very extensive and we had quite the time navigating what we wanted to try that first time, there were so many choices. I decided in my head that I would just take a couple of risks, and then return to try the other stuff another time!
Our favourites so far are the breads (they are all good- especially the naan, plus this puffy, deep friend bread that everyone in the restaurant seemed to be ordering- not sure of the name of this bread), and three curries: lentil, chick pea, potato. My 11 year old daughter loves the chick pea curry the best (be careful though- it is pretty spicy). The deep fried savoury snacks were also very tasty, as were the jalebi and other sweets. We have an Indian friend who introduced us many years ago to these types of Indian snacks and sweets by sharing some of her boxes she got when there was a celebration or party- these sweets and fried snacks taste exactly how I remembered them. They even have the beautiful decorated boxes for the desserts to take home or give as a gift.
The owners/staff are very friendly and seem eager to grow the business. I highly recommend trying this place out- really excellent food.More
