We visited The Maharaja for dinner on Sunday May 21st. We have heard a lot about the place and had very high expectations with the restaurant. The restaurant definitely looked nice as the ambiance is nice and we were seated in our place quickly. We...ordered drinks and appetizer followed by vegetarian dishes and Butter Nan. We liked the appetizer but the main dishes were really bad without any taste and were floating in Oil and the nan also was very greasy. We expected food to be of good quality but were totally disappointed.More
Food was okay but very disappointing service experience. Ordered online yesterday with several hours of notice before a 6pm pickup. We went to collect the food, but when we got there it said that they needed another 5 minutes. Even though they seemed to have...no idea where our order was when we arrived. They clearly missed the order - as it took them 40 minutes to make the food. No apologies or no freebie item thrown in. Mistakes happen - but you need to respond appropriately. Tell us the order was missed, and that we should come back in half an hour rather than standing at the door for 40 minutes. And I was foolish enough to give $15 tip on a $140 bill when I ordered… never again will I provide a tip before I receive the food. And unfortunately we won’t be ordering from this place again given their apparent lack of concern for the customer. The prices here are higher than in similar restaurants, with that should come a high level of quality and service. The food was okay.. but the cooking seemed to have been rushed as the chicken pieces were not tender.More
We been this restaurant almost 4 years before and brought back to us due to last good experienced but it is absolutely very awful and unprofessional services this time. We ordered food with request of very mild spices level for all curries and surprisingly all...three of them had very high level of spices, we could not took more than one bites and complained about it. They said we had not discussed about the spices level and that is the normal spices, etc. So, they even do not ready to accept their fault nor apologized for it. We could neither argued nor become rude and simply paid in the full and just walked out without touching of 95% of foods. Our experience for this time was not acceptable and very unprofessional attitude. Sorry but now onwards we do not like to go back at their restaurant for sure.More
I visited the restaurant on my first anniversary. The ambience was good. We ordered a non-vegetarian platter that was not on the menu. Trust me, the taste was completely bland and flavorless. The kebabs were so dry that I was not able to cut them...with my knife. I also raised a complaint about it, and the manager replied that we prepare food not as per Indian taste but as per Canadian taste. I mean, what is the whole point of opening an Indian restaurant when you cannot offer authentic taste? I was extremely disappointed with their food quality and service; I have no idea how they have a rating of 4.2 on Google Reviews. The main course was good but not great. When the bill arrived, they charged freaking $75 for the non-vegetarian platter, which was not worth a single penny. They had no courtesy to offer some sort of discount on the bill. We end up paying almost $200 for two people. FYI, their quantity is below average, so please order at least 2-3 main course dishes. If you want to eat authentic Indian food, go to Desi Bar and Grill, Tamarind, or Tikka Junction.More
Made reservations a day in advance. Arrived and were told no reservations and restaurant would fill up in an hour it never did. Most menu items not available including drinks. Food was so so. Waitress just started work. This place open only a few days...ago. And with so few customers not sure for long Prior Parsee owners sold out.More
Ordered for pickup. The food was good, but not great…. As much as I explained that I love spicy food and I like it Indian (not Canadian) spicy it simply was ignored. The worst thing is that they charged my credit card twice. After driving...to the restaurant and showing them the two transactions (same amount, posted one day apart) they explained that their system had a glitch. They offered a gift card if the money was not returned. I had to talk to three credit card service representatives in order to start a dispute. I understand this is not the restaurant’s fault, but from what they explained we were not the only customers impacted by this. Taking into consideration all these factors makes it extremely hard to recommend.More
I can said than is the worst Indian food !! The taste was good , but just 5 pieces of chicken in the butter chicken for 30 dollars is unbelievable…I can order next time for Bombay , and they taste better and put the doble...of chicken !! I don’t understand why the costumer like this kind of rest !!More
Hello Kukop, Not sure, where you ordered the Butter Chicken from ? Our is priced at $18.99 and all our portions will have 7-8 pcs of Boneless Chicken. We do look forward to hearing back from you. Please do email us at info@themaharaja.ca
We ordered Shahi paneer, bangan bharta , makhini daal , naan and roties. We requested extra mild spicing. Shahi paneer and Makhani Daals are supposed to be mildly spiced. But what we got was very hot and extra spicy. It seems they prepared the base...dishes in advance and were not able to adjust spice level. Naan was excellent though over priced, but tandoorie roties were very dry. My recommendations are that we you are not used to very spicy food than you should skip this restaurant.More
I am an avid patron of The Maharaja. I used to have client meetings at The Maharaja before covid. Even opting to take staff there as a thank you for all their hard word. This averaged to about once every two months. Today, I decided...to order from The Maharaja for Valentine’s Day after receiving an email from the restaurant. My son went to pick up the food. I received a call saying that the staff forgot to give half the order to him. He had already left and was well on his way back on the highway and he had to turn back. During this call there wasn’t even an apology. The food, when it arrived, was of course cold. One of the dishes we ordered had lamb in it, It was chewy and the bhindi has a layer of oil in it. The butter chicken wasn’t tasty either with the chicken being over cooked. I do realize that Valentine’s Day was a busy day. But since the restaurant was ok with taking an order two weeks in advance, there should have been a point where they said this is the max we can take on for that day or brought in extra staff to help out. Also there wasn’t any excuse for chewy meat or layers of oil This isn’t the level of quality that we have come to expect from the maharaja. We are quite disappointed in the restaurant for the first time ever.More
I picked up a food order from The Maharaja Restaurant. Food was excellent. The Indian receipes were different than the Punjabi restaurants I am used to. A wonderful change - Flavourful, beautiful, crisp and attractive. The gentleman who took my order was polite and helpful...in my deciding on the dishes to choose. I definitely plan on enjoying their food again.More
Thank you very much for your Positive Review and Kind compliments! We look forward to seeing you again soon!
Very large menu and a huge selection of indian dishes. The hyderabadhi and awadhi of the cuisine was interesting. The kababs were yummy, need to go again to try more
Wow, what an experience! In this historic building there are separate dining rooms paying homage to different themes complete with artworks (Mona Lisa in a Sari!) chandeliers, colour themes and a beautiful bar. A tour is given after you place your order and the guide...enthusiastically describes these areas. We were started with a complimentary flavourful green drinks in small shot glasses. It was fragrant and refreshing. The menu is divided by cuisine and Tracey was amazing at explaining the dishes and the stories behind them. Anarkali Shorba is a delicious smooth lentil soup with a pomegranate blossom garnish that is a tribute to Anarkali and Prince Salim’s romance. Something about a ruby necklace he gave to her. We thoroughly enjoyed Haryali Murgh Ke Parche. This appetizer is a tender chicken breast marinated overnight with exotic spices, fresh mint and cooked in a tandoor. Yum! The main dish of Dum Ke Murgh Asaf Jah was an explosion of flavour. This chicken dish was stuffed with cheese, pomegranate and royal cumin served with a rich saffron flavoured sauce. Our rice was perfectly cooked as was the bread. All dishes were beautifully plated. Service was fun, professional, and very knowledgeable. Tracey was also mentoring a new staff member. A lot of effort goes into training the staff as they go through three levels before they earn their name badge. Our reservation was for six, as it was for others. They do not open their door until six so we all sat in our cars until that moment. This felt a bit off putting until we learned that half of their staff have their “tea” at that point. Sounds like they look after their staff and it shows in the service. We watched many other interesting dishes being brought to other tables. We will definitely be back to enjoy the experience and taste other exotic dishes. Prices are reasonable and reflect this level of cuisine and dining experience.More
Hello Thank you very much for your positive and encouraging review! We look forward to seeing you again! Royal Regards Team The Maharaja
Being new to Toronto, I was searching for an Indian restaurant that provides quality for the price. Found this restaurant and decided to give a try after reading their positive reviews and attractive menu. Worth the try. Try their Dum chicken biryani which is one...of the best in this area. Will visit again!!!More
This visit turned out to be a real hidden. Right in our backyard. The four cuisines are all so nice and truly royal. The service was fast, pleasant and courteous.
