When you first look up this place, if you’re like me you may have visions of a rustic wood burning oven set amongst some beautiful cobble-stones building, overlooking the river... some delightful Italian folk music playing and a waiter aptly named Guisseppe serving you wine...from cantina jugs... the delicious fresh ingredients posed in the background; some ripe tomatoes, fresh Buffalo mozzarella cheese and the gentle hum of the meat slicer making some fresh salami or prosciutto for toppings...
Sadly, as delightful and authentic as that may sound, it’s not exactly what is on offer here. I’m not here to complain about the decor or the lack of Guisseppe the waiter... or even the lack of the the wine cantina... but what I don’t like doing is paying premium prices for what, honestly, is nothing better than your average pizza joint around the corner. No disrespect, but $17 to start for a 12” regular pizza with an $8 “upgrade” to include Buffalo mozzarella is taking the proverbial. For $17, believe me you can afford to do a hybrid mix of regular and Buffalo to give your patrons a taste of Naples... and for the “cured meats” pizza - putting on processed crumbled “bits” is nothing different than you’d expect from Generic Joe’s...
Don’t let me do the talking - simply do a google image search for “prosciutto pizza naples” — THAT is what I was thinking... but not Generic Joe’s pizza cooked in a fancy oven.
Alas, it tasted nice. It was well presented, but I just have to rate it poorly just for giving the impression of this “authentic, real” pizzeria, which was happy to take your money - but as I said, for your +/- $20 a head, will serve you Generic Joe’s from a fancy oven.
Take my advise Arugula - for $17, make it buffalo and/or for charcuterie; have a meat slicer going and make it authentic...
Much love guys
