Had the Black tonkotsu ramen with thin noodles had good soup, but not a lot of stuff on top (1 egg, 2 pieces of pork and some sliced mushrooms). Seaweed salad nothing special, too sweet. Quick service.

Easily one of the tastiest ramen dinners I have had. The broth was very very flavourful, the noodles were perfectly cooked and seemed quite fresh, and the balance of ingredients and flavours was perfect. Service was quick, good atmosphere. Overall great experience - I will...be back whenever I’m in Ottawa for sure.More

Prior to traveling to our nation’s capital, we did some quick research on “top eateries in Ottawa.” In terms of casual bites, Sansotei Ramen was a consistent presence on most of the lists we reviewed. Being connoisseurs of ramen, we thus made it a point...to patronize this establishment for dinner while in the city. We arrived just before 6PM and, shockingly, did not have to wait for a table (everything I’d read indicated a modest wait was likely). That’s not to say Sansotei wasn’t busy, because it certainly was; in fact, we apparently got the last available table – patrons who arrived shortly after us did have to wait a few minutes . . . in the rain. The interior of Sansotei reminds me of many of the classic ramen houses in Vancouver: The interior is fairly compact (maybe enough room for 30 people?); the décor is simple and straightforward (bare cement floor); there is cafeteria-style seating, inclusive of a couple “group” tables; large ropes are strung across the ceiling; and, there’s always a bustle of activity. In short, the atmosphere is unpretentious and fast-moving. You eat your ramen and then you leave. We ordered the Spicy Slow Cooked Wings to start and then the Tonkotsu Black. I’ll be the first to admit that the wings looked quite underwhelming in appearance; however, they hit all the right notes in terms of flavour. The meat was tender and the marinade sung throughout each wing. Despite our initial hesitation, we made quick work of the wings and, in fact, were left wanting more! When it came to the Tonkotsu Black ramen, I will say this: Believe the hype! While Ottawa isn’t exactly a hub for ramen, Sansotei definitely brings you the real deal. The tonkotsu broth was rich and deep with flavour; the black garlic oil was pronounced, but tasted refreshing rather than heavy; the chashu was tender, nicely absorbing the flavours of the broth; the egg was beautifully done; the noodles were cooked properly; and, the fungus added a nice crunch to the dish. In brief, all of the components came together in a beautiful, visually appealing and tasty gestalt. FOOD: 4/5 SERVICE: 5/5 VALUE: 5/5 RECOMMENDATION: For a quick, affordable and delicious meal, come here. The ramen is authentic and hearty; the space is welcoming and the service is wonderfully efficient. PS: If you found this review helpful in any way please consider hitting the "helpful" button!More

Good ramen. Not too Spivey but very tasty. We waited about 20 minutes for a table for four. I hear that is pretty normal. Very interesting menu with lots to chose from. Excellent eggs.

Great location downtown, service was excellent. The quality of the food is a whole other level. I recently enjoyed their take out service and picked up right at the door for lunch. Highly recommend this restaurant.

The Ramen here is great. The main tonkotsu one is what you should get, hearty, authentic and filling. Stay away from the tonkotsu plus where they use the chemically made truffle oil.

Dine in: Oct. 14, 2022 Time: between 12:30 p.m. and 1:12 p.m. Our first time here. We love the food. It was tasty. The server who served us was so nice (we appreciate her - 5 star for her). HOWEVER, the person who gave us...the bill was kind of rude (I don't know her name). We were confused with our bill, but the way she looked at us and treated us, was not nice. She could have explained it to us in a nicer way. We felt that we were not welcomed or some sort. I just said sorry for being confused of the bill when we were about to pay. I hope she lighten up and be more friendly. She is in a hospitality industry. But generally, we love the food. Nice place. Thank you to our server and the chef. Kudos.More

Such is the popularity of Sansotei Ramen that at the height of the midweek lunch break we were queuing for a table in this modest cafe in Ottawa’s downtown Bank Street. There is a selection of no more than around half a dozen ramens all...featuring sliced pork and boiled eggs but with a choice of thick or thin noodles as well as additional toppings and various sides. It’s a good example of quality over quantity with each variant perfectly honed and crafted. My black miso ramen featured some pungent mushrooms in addition to the fomented soybeans that provide the broth for the stock. I was intrigued by the tomato ramen not having seen tomato used in a Japanese dish before. Not sure about the soft drink I ordered called Calico which did not immediately yield its citrus flavours as advertised. I should have stuck to beer, tea or even sake. Service was polite, prompt and efficient.More
