Fantastic Food and Service. My first time at this lovely restaurant - a phenomenal experience! All staff were knowledgeable, friendly and attentive and the food was just as exceptional. We will be back.

Wonderful location and ambiance in this character historical home. Sat in the wine lounge and tried several tasty sharables along with wonderful wines. Overall a perfect evening out.

I truly enjoyed the experience, each dish had a wonderful combination of flavours. The presentation was beautiful on top of being savoury. Service was exceptional

This is the second time in a row that we had excellent service, food and ambiance at Beckta's Wine Bar. We requested the window seat for the three of us to celebrate a friend's 80th birthday. We started with the salad which our server suggested...we share -good suggestion then two of us had the pork and one the cod, along with a serving of biscuits. We finished with two lime desserts and the apple crumble -all delicious. Our server was able to comment knowledgably about the wine we chose. For once, we were able to have a conversation without having to shout above everyone else -superb acoustics. The evening was topped off by a lovely lady who was sitting at the bar, paying for our desserts because she'd had a bad day and wanted us to have a great one. We have never had a disappointing meal at Beckta. As a matter of fact when the restaurant had to close due to Covid, we supported the restaurant through their "Curated By Beckta" by purchasing meals online and picking them up to finish at home. Amazing...choices and the flavor combinations were both creative and tasteful. We visited the restaurant this past weekend and the same fine, high standards were in place. From the seating arrangements (we requested a more private setting for a larger group and were accommodated), to the great service and delectable food. Our group ordered the steelhead trout, the lamb shank, beet steak, etc. My dish of the steelhead trout was a dish full of flavor surprises hidden throughout the dish. Lovely. The fish was cooked to perfection and just the way I like it. The dessert was divine (I chose the chocolate selection). I wish I could remember our server's name, but she was fun and kind and attentive. The previous weekend we had the brunch at Gezellig (a sister company of Beckta), and it was just as fabulous. This was a long-planned celebratory dinner which we were all looking forward to. Although the serving staff were wonderful, the food was unimaginative, poorly cooked and with little or no thought to the plate presentation. The strip loin steak was over done and the trout...was dry. The radicchio salad was just a huge pile of radicchio again with no thought to creativity or presentation. The worst part is that these dishes are horrendously expensive. For a $68 steak, I want to be amazed!! We were not only not amazed, we were appalled. Offers of desserts etc. on the house do not make up for poorly prepared and presented food. This was our first time back in a number of years and it will definitely be our last visit.More

We were recommended to try Beckta by the concierge of the hotel we were staying with. We made a reservation and not only received an email confirmation, we got a personal phone call to confirm and discuss any particular interests or reasons for dining with...them. Upon arrival, we were greeted and made to feel how appreciative the restaurant was for choosing them. Nice atmosphere, in an older historical home. The wait staff were efficient, friendly and very willing to make suggestions. I have always love tasting menus and prefer it to be “blind”. It was and also offered a matching wine service. It was fun to try and guess what was coming for plate offerings from the wines we were poured. The first stage was exceptional and the night continued at that level. We were enticed by both wine and food for 2 1/2 hours. Never rushed! I would highly recommend to anyone who is a foodie or is looking for a celebratory meal! Fantastic all around! Can’t say enough good things about Beckta. It has become our go-to restaurant for birthdays, anniversaries, and any other special occasion. The food is incredible and the service is impeccable. Every person who works at Beckta is friendly and makes you feel...welcome. They really go out of their way to make every visit memorable. For my 40th birthday, my wife made a note in the reservation booking asking if their beef Wellington would be available on the day we would be visiting. About 10 minutes after submitting the reservation, the restaurant manager called her and said she spoke with the chef who said that even if beef Wellington wasn’t on the menu that day, they would have one ready for us. True to their word, a beef Wellington was waiting for us when we got there. We were blown away that they remembered (the reservation was made about a month in advance)! It was absolutely fabulous! We’ve been back multiple times since then and have another reservation coming up. If you’re looking for a restaurant that will make for a memorable experience, definitely head to Beckta!More

Fore those not familiar with Ottawa, Beckta is situated in a beautiful, very old heritage designated building, that has been fully restored. It is located in downtown Ottawa on Elgin Street, near the National Arts Center, and diagonal from Confederation Park, two blocks from Chateau...Laurier and Parliament Hill. As it is a "grand home" in the 19th Century style of early Ottawa, there are multiple rooms or alcoves, that create a much greater sense of intimacy, than the open cavernous concept common to most restaurants. We were in a room that only provided three separate tables, which provided much greater privacy. As it was my partner's birthday, we selected the five course meal. It was exquisite in every respect. Our server, who was excellent, provided a fulsome explanation of each course. Moreover, he provided ample time between each course. (we arrived at 6 pm and left at 8.30 pm). The wine list provided an excellent selection of vintages and regular wines. In the last 5 years, we have patronized restaurants much less often, due to the trend that we have observed of inferior service and inflated prices relative to the experience. Our experience at Beckta reminded us of why we enjoyed going to restaurants in the past. For those that seek an elegant, intimate experience with superb food and wine, Beckta is remarkable. However, it is not for those who are budget conscious, as it is probably one of the most expensive restaurants in Ottawa. This experience was fine dining at its best in Ottawa.More

Not my first visit and will not be my last. Good, wine, service and overall experience are nothing short of exceptional. Love this place and highly recommend it on all levels.

Haven’t been in a long time but it sure didn’t disappoint!! After so many years the quality and flavours were amazing .. the only disappointment was we didn’t get the wine pairing with the 5 course blind menu.. which I am sure would have made...me give this review 6 stars !! If you are looking for a restaurant to share with someone special this is hands down the place to go in Ottawa.More
