I tried Porotta & beef roast which was the worst Indian food I have ever had. The Porotta was not smooth & beef roast taste was too sour.

I was shocked to discover the excellent food of Kochin Kitchen in the Byward Market. The Indian cuisine and service were excellent. I have literally walked past this location hundreds of times without ever noticing this restaurant. I highly recommend the caramelized pineapple with ice...cream for dessert... so flavourful...More
Fantastic food and service. Strongly recommending it. Authentic southern Indiana cuisine. Onion pakora is a must
Went here recently with my wife and 20-year-old daughter. We had reservations, but the restaurant wasn't too busy. Service started off slow; it took a while to get menus and to place our order. But, once the food arrived -- samosas, butter chicken, shrimp curry,...lamb vindaloo, porotta -- everything was looking up. The food was amazing. We'll definitely come back.More
It was recommended by a friend. We were a big group and we had a mix experience. The lamb and the curry was good, but the Masala dosa , and the chutneys were not good at all.
The service is excellent; the food is delicious. It is a very rare experience to taste real Kerala-style cooking in a restaurant. Try the fish-in-banana leaves, the vada, any of the shrimp dishes. Try the mushroom curry! I have yet to find anything that was...not excellent. My thanks to all at Kochin Kitchen for a lovely dinner.More
Just so good!! Highly recommand this restaurant!! Freshly prepared! Sooooo yummy!!! Prompt and corteous sevice. I recommend absolutly everything on the menu.
After a few hard and long days in Ottawa getting some business done, I decided to order a delicious hot meal from someplace I had not eaten from before. After some searching I landed on Kochin Kitchen which was in walking distance from where I...was staying. I also double checked with a local who gave the thumbs up of approval, so I made my way over. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere and I was greeted by a nice young lady who I believe was named Dona. She offered me a menu and was polite in the entire interaction. I watched her multitask effortlessly. I asked for her recommendation between two dishes I had narrowed down to and she was extremely helpful in my decision making process. She explained the pairing of my main dish options with the sides they would be best with. I was able to order the Shrimp Masala with 2 Porrota's for take out. She quoted me my wait time and I was able to walkabout Clarence St and find some amazing fudge. When I returned my meal was ready and hot. She assisted me by ensuring I had proper to go cutlery and containers. I enjoyed my meal and would absolutely wholeheartedly recommend Kochin! 1st experience was a great one. Looking forward to enjoying again in the future.More
Based on high reviews, we chose to call the restaurant to reserve a table. The man on the phone just said "yeah come in" and hung up. We got to Kochin and were waved to a table so we sat ourselves.. but no one came...by. There were two men working and 4 tables in the restaurant. The decor didn't scream Indian restaurant whatsoever and we wondered what the rave reviews were about. We left after nearly 10 minutes and are so happy we did- found an amazing Indian restaurant up the same street which exceeded our expectations.More
Kochin Kitchen, located in the heart of Byward Market, offers South Indian specialties...but what really sets it apart are its dishes from Kerala. Pros: - The beef fry & porota (bread) were superb; do try! - Service was decent _ Restaurant was pretty clean Cons:...- I really wanted to try other dishes on the menu, but the prices were way too expensive for my liking (~$18-20 per dish); This might be due to its central location in Ottawa. Maybe one suggestion is to offer sampler plates at an economical price. Even so, I would highly recommend Kochin Kitchen based on the food taste/quality alone; I will certainly pass by again whenever in town.More
Had no reservation but it wasnt busy so no problem. We were told to make a reservation to prevent disappointment in busier hours. Simple seats, staff friendly, food is very tasty. Would come here again.
My friend and I visited here for Indian food. We ordered Butter chicken and spicy lamb curry, which are good. The restaurant is well decorated, kind of has a romantic vibe and so the environment is really nice.
Incredible lunch buffet. Visited on a weekday for lunch with some co-workers and was very impressed by the selection and quality of the lunch buffet. At least 10 different main dishes and an equal number of sides and desserts. An excellent way to try a...number of dishes in one visit. I especially enjoyed the pepper lamb curry, Salmon fish curry, and tandoori chicken. The price was reasonable for the selection, quality, and location. Would definitely visit again.More
The first time we visited here was after our son's wedding with his new wife and the wedding party, then after he received his masters degree we once again headed to "the Kitchen". After the birth of their first child then the second child once...again we feted ourselves to the wonderful Indian Buffet. Finally late last month after our daughter-in-law became a Canadian citizen we didn't think twice _ we just walked over. There seems to be something for every palate, from mild and savory to hot and spicy. Our whole family enjoys this restaurant. Thank you. I am sure we shall see you again.More
The food here is as good as you will find in any Indian restaurant in Ottawa. That along with excellent service and reasonable prices makes it place to go again.
