Really good food and service from this restaurant that was founded by the head servers grandad. Booking essential and tables are spaced out. Really great steak and wine list. We had to order a taxi and while we were waiting he talked to us about...where to go on our next stop which was Montreal. He suggested Schwartz and Jo Beef. Both were great .More

My wife and I celebrated our 11th anniversary at Als . The atmosphere is very good. When the restaurant is packed it is very loud. The parking at the rear is great. There is a parking attendant on site and he is very good in...assisting to find a parking spot . Our server was Brandi. Very polite and can suggest a lot of items from drinks to the meal, she is very knowledgeable. She provided us with outstanding service. The owner Sam, walks thru the restaurant and is very pleasant, and makes you fell very welcome. I do believe he is Als son, which was in the restaurant last time I was there about 25 years ago. The GM also walks around and again talks to everyone. Great Place. Now the really good stuff. I ordered the 24oz porterhouse. My god it was above being delicious. My wife ordered the black peppercorn filet which she just loved. The Stuff Crab mushrooms we had was the best yet. And because we were celebrating our anniversary, they offered us a complimentary desert, which we thought was very nice to do. We were so full , we had to take home about half of each of our meals. This is truly a place for special occasions, or just to enjoy the best steaks in the city.More

A rather macho place this, specialising as it does in steaks, walls peppered with photographs of baseball and hockey players, fellow diners comprising pairs of male lawyers plotting their next strike, waitresses with well-rounded figures. From a lunch menu I had a soup followed by...a macho steak sandwich and chips all washed down with a full-bodied Malbec. Two well-rounded rolls with a cleavage in between.More

A business acquaintance and I had a decent lunch here, nothing special, but the service was good. We both had the steak burger and it was not overly tasty. The accompanying salad was better.

Nice atmosphere, excellent food, and our waiter was awesome. We were visiting Ottawa for a couple of days and were looking for a nice place to celebrate a birthday. Al’s steakhouse did not disappoint.

Amazing food and drinks! Anya the bartender was lovely. Her great recommendations and friendly service made it an unforgettable experience. She makes the best espresso martinis. Will definitely be back!

Let’s start from the beginning….. We have been welcomed at the entrance by a lady with dark hair, quite rude (for sure not smiling at all!), who escorted the 5 of us to a round table set for 7, and she made us a favor...to remove one set, but leaving us with 6 sets and 7 chairs. Then a waiter came “throwing” on the table glasses with water, just in the middle of the table, letting each of us to get one. Later on the same guy was serving some of us across the table…. Things got better with Vanessa and her trainee, who carefully and nicely took the order, and kindly removed the 6th set (but not the chairs in excess….). Meet was excellent, even if definitely on the pricey side. I would not have any issue in paying more, if the service would be coherent with the price. We left the restaurant at the end of the dinner, and the same lady which welcomed us at the entrance didn’t even say “bye” or greeting us in any way. Overall, good food, nice location, but few things (and people) to review about service.More

Waitress tells us: "Nobody wants to serve this table." We had made reservations for two. Arrived at the proper time at the restaurant and we were seated promptly. We waited a few minutes before a waitress came. She frankly told us, "nobody wants to serve...this table, so I will." We didn't think much of her comments at the time. She served us well and the food was excellent, as usual. She handed us the bill. Then we waited a half hour before my husband got up and went to the front desk to see if we could pay the bill. During that time, we could see our waitress but she purposely avoided us. I believe the manager came around so that we could finally pay our bill. Did we tip? Yes, gave a nice tip. Lesson learned: I never want to sit at that particular table. I have wondered what the history is behind seating guests at that table.More

Went to Als for a lovely dinnerr work meal. I must say that i was impressed with every part of the dinner experience. All was quite nice. But… Last month jan 30 2023 i attempted to go to Als. I booked a reservation foer 2...at opentable for 730. I am a business traveller so made a special trip to Als with uber taxi. Arriving at Als i was faced with the embarassing case of the reataurant being closed for inrternal xmas party. Needless to say we were disappointed and had to make alternate plans. There is no way to turn back the clock but such gaps need to be remedied! I would have given more stars if not for that.More

Understanding that this was during holiday time (December) the restaurant was very very noisy. Too many tables, too close together. It was difficult to carry on a conversation. The server was great, didn’t, neglect us. Food was ok, not great. My filet was burnt on...the outside and not medium rare as ordered. I did not return it as I felt it would take too long to get another. The noise, getting louder by the moment, was overwhelming. This is a fine dining restaurant, that is expensive. My experience there was ruined because of the noise & over crowed space.More

We had reservations Sunday evening while spending a few days in Ottawa visiting. Thank god we stuck to our plans. What a gem amongst the city. Great atmosphere for a date night and or special occasion — vibe gives sultry, glam, romantic. This candle lit...space was full of others enjoying themselves as well. This spot did not disappoint! Quick to seat us, the most personable & friendly waiter Nick was a treat to have serve us throughout our experience at Al’s. We first ordered the thick cut bacon & starter salad to start — accompanied by their famous Al’s house dressing which was TO DIE FOR! Wish I remembered to purchase a bottle before heading out. Our steaks were cooked to perfection — although not marinated or seasoned we were given a dish of flaked salt which was the perfect accompaniment. Steak was fantastic. To end off our meal we ordered the blueberry cheesecake — on the way over a portion of the slice fell over & Nick was courteous enough to explain the mishap and state “dessert is on me. Tis the season of giving. Enjoy it you two”. Cannot speak high enough. Would recommend to anyone — worth every dollar!More

I've been to Al's many times over the years and always enjoy going there for a special occasion. We went there on a Friday night for a birthday celebration dinner and really enjoyed it. It was a full house, with lots of people and a...lively atmosphere. I started with Al's lemonade cocktail, which was excellent. I had the lobster tails with garlic butter, garlic rice and the house salad, and found everything great. My daughter had the mussels and really enjoyed the sauce and yummy fresh bread rolls. Dessert was an excellent coconut cream pie. We had a great time and highly recommend it.More
