Haven’t been this excited about a restaurant experience in a long time. First time at CORE for Toronto Winterlicious 2020. Outstanding dishes with complex and unique taste combinations. Loved the Roasted Beet Salad and Roasted Scallops, the sweetest I have tasted. Top notch service is...classic but warm and friendly at the same time. Lots of attention to fine details. Great place!More

We had the "Trust the Chef", three dishes for $45 deal. The starter was griiled mackerel; the main, duck breast with accompaniments; and for dessert it was lemon tart with ice cream and a sesame tuile. We went on a Thursday evening when wine was...half price, cocktails were $10, and oysters in the shell were a buck a throw. Everything, including the staff, were as close to perfect as perfect can be. And that is why Core Restaurant gets a excellent rating.More

Recently tried Core over the weekend and had a wonderful experience. We were greeted right away and seated at a lovely table in the front area. Our server Richard was wonderful! Attentive, friendly and informative. We started off with a dozen oysters and cocktails which...were part of their happy hour feature - $1 oysters and $10 cocktails and select wines. For appetizers we had the pork belly and the scallops crudo. The scallop dish was fresh, light and seasoned perfectly. The pork belly was cooked perfectly. For mains we had the rib eye which was served with fries and house made ketchup and the honey glazed duck breast. The duck was one of the best duck dishes I have had in the city. The meat was incredibly tender and melted in your mouth like butter while the skin was crispy and all the fat was perfectly rendered. For dessert we had the lemon curd that was served with these delicious sesame crackers. Overall, this is a wonderful restaurant that is preparing delicious food in a warm, casual environment. We will definitely be back and highly recommend it to others.More

5* in category (contemporary neighbourhood bistro). Overall very good to excellent. Excellent apps, especially the gnocchi. Rack of Boar was also very good. Service was good, friendly and efficient. The manager, Alexandria, was very engaging about the wine list and wine program. The list is...affordable and intelligently put together. It's a nice room, without noise issues - yay! - but it was a quiet evening (Labour day weekend in the city). Only 'miss' at our table was a rather surprising failure to decant vintage port and I was unlucky enough to get a glass from the bottom of the bottle.  The last quarter of my glass  was sludge.  (I should have mentioned it at the time but we were keen to get home). Will return (to try the chefs 5 course trust-him menu) Highly Recommended.More

This is a great neighbourhood restaurant with good food, friendly service, great special on drinks and wine and you can actually hear each other at a table of four even when sitting under a speaker. There is music but it is at a normal level....There is a great happy hour from 5 to 7 with $10 cocktails. The Keyes One Martinis were superb. Thursday night are half priced wine. It is a good wine list. The food is also very good. The scallop a starter and the albacore tuna crudo were outstanding. For the mains the steel head salmon and black cod were also excellent. Our server, Cameron, was outstanding and attentive and always there when you needed him. Good explanations on the food and knowledgeable on the components. We will be back soon.More

We went for our first time because of the terrific on-line reviews. We soon found out they were well deserved The servers paid close attention to our special needs (allergies and food intolerances). The mocktail they made for my partner was delicious. The Bangladeshi server...was especially helpful. We got the five courses of the chef’s choosing. So often that means there will be one or even two that aren’t to your taste. But we relished all five. The size of the plates was just right: we weren’t still hungry at the end, but we weren’t stuffed either. We are already making plans to return.More

Core has a short menu but one of the options is a 3 or 5 course menu chosen by the chef. We did the 3 course which happened to consist of a tuna and citrus appetizer, flank steak and a vanilla and coffee crumble custard....All were prepared exquisitely. Excellent service as well.More

Excellent meal, excellent service. Book this place on the recommendation of a few others and was not disappointed. We had the 5 course chef’s choice menu. Excellent range of duck, scallops, trout, boar and chocolate ganache for dessert. If you’re looking for fancy dining with...reasonable prices I highly recommend Core.More

First rate from beginning to end. Hadn't mentioned it was my birthday when reserving, but the manager must have overheard our toast and brought out some extra special dishes like oysters as part of our tasting menu. My foodie loving adult children couldn't stop raving...about how much they were enjoying the food. The courses included their fabulous bread (came around and asked if anyone wanted more which was nice) and homemade butter; delicious charcuterie; cheeses and accompaniments; beef tartar; raw tuna salad; rich pasta dish with braised short ribs and veg.; delicious grilled sliced steak with perfectly cooked vegetables - really liked the pressed potato side. The waiter was very helpful choosing a white and then a red and the manager decanted it first. Very nicely paced, generous portions, great flavors; excellent value. The restaurant was busy but not packed, but the music was considerably lower so patrons didn't have to shout. Still an energetic noise level, but a much more comfortable decibel level than our first visit. Made a huge difference in our enjoyment of the evening. Looking forward to returning.More
