I have been to St. James Gate on several occasions and I've always liked both the food and the atmosphere. On this particular night, when I was there with my spouse and three other couples just to catch up on life, that was partly true. The atmosphere, drinks and service were all very good but some of the food did not meet the mark. We enjoyed several orders of chicken wings and nachos, both of which were very good. The problems came with the mains. My chicken pot pie was undercooked and lacking in the chicken department. The steak was a bit on the fatty side and overcooked. It was disappointing. Although I'll return to St. James Gate, I'll probably limit my meal to those items that I know are going to be well prepared (chicken wings, fries, nachos, salads).

We stopped at this restaurant on Aug 30, 2020 for lunch. And at first were met by a young lady server, who insisted we have to wear masks, even though we wanted to seat on a patio. I explained we are exempt, but she was rude and left. So when i was ready to leave, my husband suggested we talk to a manager. So A beautiful young lady by name Kyra came to talk to us. After we explained the incident she made us feel very comfortable and we had a great lunch. Food is very delicious, and Kyra made our day. So I hope the owner will read this review and teach their staff to be as Kyra and learn how to talk to people.
So to Kyra a huge thank you.

Been here several times. The service is usually friendly, but can be a bit slow. The food is average at best and you are more likely to be disappointed in your meal than pleasantly surprised. So, go to St James for the beer and save your meal money for someplace better.

We were already fans of this place (awesome food, good drinks, great patio) before we came here for St Pattys. The place was crazy but the staff went above and beyond. They were kind, patient and even shared their pizza with us because they knew my friend and I were hungry waiting for a table. We will be back!

Lots of very tasty, high-calorie, typical pub food served at St. James's Gate. We had a few beers, beef sliders, nachos with guacamole, chicken club, and a shaved beef sandwich with horseradish and a very yummy dipping sauce. All was delicious, delicious, delicious.

Having a bar with music is a plus in our book. However the sound levels are painful if you also want to drink and eat. We’ve walked out once before, and tried twice staying there to enjoy drinks and a meal. Knowing this, we tried again last night and it was bad. The volume needs to be controlled.

Popular neighborhood restaurant with good pub food, well prepared and presented. Served promptly by friendly servers. This large restaurant has lots of seating...booths, hi-tops and bar seating. Clean and very well run and perfect for families, couples.
We had crab cakes appetizer. Two delicious medium sized crab cakes, topped with a dollop of creamy mayo or aioli type sauce, served on a red pepper purée and a mound of excellent red cabbage slaw. Perfect burger and excellent hot fries, bacon and eggs with home fries, all generous portions and very well prepared.
Limited free parking available...definitely worth a visit to this restaurant!

Met up with friends Friday night for dinner. We were craving pub food and wanted to stay in the neighbourhood. There’s only one place. St. James Gate. We all had pints and shared their amazing nachos. Love their chips. I always have the meatloaf served with mashed potatoes, red cabbage and 3 onion rings. Heaven. Burgers and the fish n chips are also highly recommended. Band comes out later at night. Staff are friendly and the place is great for families with kids too. I like the booths. Will be back for next craving.

We happened upon the St James Gate while returning from a TFC Game. We remembered the building when it was Millers Country Fare which we loved but we saw that it was now an Irish Pub, so we thought we would give it a try.
Boy, are we ever glad we did! The place is amazing. From the friendly staff to the authentic Irish Pub feeling you get when you walk in we were thoroughly satisfied with every aspect of the experience. I opted for the daily special which happened to be one of my favourites Baby Back Ribs (full rack). My Wife had the Chicken Pot Pie which she said was absolutely delicious, with lots of chicken (white meat) and a delicious gravy in a light pie crust served with lovely mashed potatoes.
The Ribs fell off the bone and were really juicy and tender with an awesome Guinness based sauce Mmmmm. The chips were done perfectly and the tangy ColeSlaw rounded out this feast. Of course, the litmus test of any Irish Pub is the mandatory Pint of Guinness and mine was amazing.
I was very impressed with the food, the ambience and the decor. We will certainly be returning to this new gem we have found in the Bloor Dundas corridor.
