My husband and I were in Toronto for a couple of days and we were looking for a place to have breakfast close to where we were staying. At first we were a little disappointed because the kitchen was under construction and they were not serving their normal breakfast items, and we were actually thinking about going somewhere else, but... We had lunch here last week and were impressed by the food and service. The menu is limited, but this is a good thing. What they do, they do well. We arrived at 11:45 and had no problem finding a table, but the place does fill up. The soup is always good, as is the chicken breast on a bun... More

My family and I recently ate here on vacation. We walked here from the Royal Ontario Museum (about a 20 minute walk). The food was great- we tried the Ultimate (egg, cheese, peameal bacon, tomato on a cheddar-chive scone), the grilled-cheese of the day (chorizo and other good things), the Pesto club, and the mac n' cheese. The mac n'cheese... More

Breakfasts served up to 1130am and lunches served from 1100am so plenty of choice if you arrive mid-late morning! Specific brunch on Sunday. A modern simple decor and friendly staff. I had the omelette of the day which was outstanding coupled with salad and great fresh bread. Good value too. I'll return.

Right in the gay village, this community cafe sells excellent food and has friendly staff & free wifi. Food has daily changes and specials. LOved the combinations of sandwiches, salads and soups. And really good value as well. Recommended.

So good we came here 3 times. An unassuming community not for profit cafe just north of the gay village. Great food with daily twists on cafe foods like omelette and soup & really nice salads. A real find in a bit of a food desert and a real change from burgers and pizza joints. Highly recommended.

Lunch was really good, good food served and good service. It is super busy during lunch hour time, but staff handles it well. Liked it very much

Had lunch here with my partner. Carrot soup was great, as was my salad. Micro greens, lightly dressed very healthy. Service was good and prompt. My mac and cheese was good but a bit heavy. Will definitely return.

I LOVE this place! I stayed in Toronto with my boyfriend and we discovered Fabarnak towards the end of our stay. The breakfast and brunch are both amazing. Portions are huge, really tasty and the price was just so reasonable. Staff are also friendly and the atmosphere of the place is really chilled, you feel welcome and not rushed. Coffee... More

Walking in, I wasn't even sure that I was in the right place. The entrance to this place shares the street access with the community center at the same address. The menu is limited, but everyone in our party of 8 was able to find something that fit their palate and dietary restrictions, and that is saying a lot! In... More

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
