Now this is what I call a fine morning. Look around, step out of your zone and you will meet new people some doing new things and some perfecting the classics. The Gingerman is a bomb from entering to leaving. Great coffee is a start and 3 people said good morning to us even before we sat down. Service was so perfect and the food delicious. Follow our waitstaff advice and get butterflied sausage. Trust you will thank her. We got a kiddie size blueberry pancakes that must be for an 7 year old heavy weight! Portions are massive so it’s fun to share a few things.

One of the things I do enjoy about the house we bought fifteen years ago is its location. Literally at the end of the block is a small plaza with just bout everything one needs, literally a minute’s walk away. There’s a variety store, laundry, drycleaners, pharmacy and an East York Institution, the Gingerman Restaurant.
We’ve been eating on a regular basis since the day we moved in, well the morning after anyway. There is nothing fancy or special about the place and therein lies it’s charm. It’s what it says it is a family run old fashioned greasy spoon restaurant. Those sadly are becoming few and far between in Toronto these days.
Since we’ve been her ownership has changed a couple of time, but the food, and more important the service haven’t changed. One of the reasons for the later is the long serving and loyal staff that have been here since before we first walked in. This is the kind of place where the waitress pauses before handing you a menu and asks instead if you want the “usual.”
Regular customers, who are remembered by name and have been a fixture here as long as the staff are one of the reasons for the success and longevity of this place. Mind some of those regulars have been coming here as long as we have and longer. The food of course is the second reason.
There is a full lunch and dinner menu available with the usual items. steaks, liver, spaghetti, chicken and seafood, there’s even a children’s menu. Being this is the east end of Toronto there is also a good selection of Greek dishes. Personally, I recommend the hamburgers, almost too big to eat, but I always manage.
The main item though and the reason the place is almost always packed in the mornings and especially so on weekends is the breakfast menu. There is a variety of omelets and breakfast sandwiches as well as such staples as pancakes and waffles. The main item on the menu and probably the most ordered is the all day breakfast of eggs, anyway you want, toast, home fries and bacon or sausage. Portions of this like everything else on the menu are generous to say the least. All of this can be washed down with a bottomless cup of freshly brewed coffee.
Now that we’ve retired, visits to The Gingerman are not restricted to the busy weekends and I can enjoy the place anytime I want

This landmark in East York can continue to boast welcoming hospitality and outstanding food in huge portions thanks to the big hearts and culinary sllkills of the new owners. We enjoyed a sumptuous Italian style dinner of chicken parmesan, pasta, salad, bread, and dessert served steaming hot and in record time! The sauce, or 'sugo', was perfectly prepared and really stole the show. The chicken was tender and the flavourful breading added a great hint of herbs to every bite. I cannot wait for the chance to visit for breakfast!

First visit to this popular community eatery near the intersection of Victoria Park and St. Clair. Extensive menu; fast, friendly service; tasty food; large portions; bottomless cup of coffee; very reasonable prices. Coffee could be better. Ample parking in the mall outside the restaurant.

Great value. Excellent for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Very reasonably priced and good portions. Family run business and very popular with locals. All day breakfast menu, good soup, sandwiches, fries and gravy, souvlaki...I can go on and on. I don’t think I’ve had anything I haven’t liked at this restaurant. Fast, friendly service with extensive menu.

Horrible food… nasty new owners. Everything was burnt and the owner of the establishment was cursing at all the customers. They fired all the staff and now they can’t butter toast.do not support this place anymore.

Absolutely wonderful. Staff are friendly and attentive. Food is very good and our 4 breakfasts came to the table hot. Great coffee.
I called ahead as I’m in a wheelchair for a few months. They made room for us and were very accommodating. Charlie the new owner opened the doors for us. We felt like family.

My last review wasn't very flattering, but recent new owners have turned it around and made it once again best brekkie place in East York, on Victoria Park south of St. Clair, sat sun/busy for brekkie, try the peameal and eggs or peameal sandwich thick cut plentiful. try their burgers too, homemade,.
give them a try

The service is quick and the wait staff very pleasant. The food was tasty and great value for the price. Unlike some breakfast places, the coffee was actually good.

If you're in the area their all-day-breakfast is always on point. . .
Don't forget to add cheese to your omelet if ordering one

East York
East York includes a portion of old, industrial Toronto. Densely populated but incredibly safe, it boasts some of the city's earliest gardens and gardening clubs, attracting green thumbs everywhere. The tranquility of the Don Valley River area, which is rich with Toronto's oldest and tallest forests, is supplemented by the large ensemble of authentic and refurbished Edwardian homes, giving parts of East York allure. The other draw is for foodies: lovers of Bangladeshi fare will find authentic restaurants and markets in the area, with raw spices and desserts. East York also represents a lot of Toronto's Serbian food culture, and recently, has had an outcropping of solid microbrewery stops. For families, the science center is a favored weekend stop.
