We want to visit Zakusshi for a long time but never had the time to walk there. Very nice place with a variety of food to choose from. I don't think there is anything not good here. We will be coming here regularly.

Went to Zakkushi on a Saturday night and made a reservation beforehand for 2 with good reason - it was packed! They reserved a great spot for us and settled us right in. Service was very quick and friendly. Our waitress told us that since it was busy, we would have to wait 20-30 min for fried food and the... More

This is our favourite izakaya place in town. Nice atmosphere, good food, excellent service. This place is busy so reservation is highly recommended.

Nice authentic izakaya for some yakitori! Many items could be labeled as a bit overly salty but grilled food with sea salt is never a bad thing although sometimes it is a bit overpowering.

Zakkushi is primarily a Japanese yakitori house; almost everything is grilled. Things are ordered individually and priced by the piece, The small kitchen turns out some really tasty food. Highlights were steak, beef tongue, eel, and sweet and crunchy pork. Sushi was so so, but that's not what you are here for. Don't be surprised by the waitstaff shouting out... More

Zakkushi is a Japanese izakaya, specializing in yakitori (grilled skewers). It is the Toronto branch of the Vancouver-based local chain. The menu consists of a lot of skewers (beef, chicken, pork, lamb chops and seafood), udons, izakaya dishes (like chicken karrage) and some Dons. Giant Scallop was absolutely delicious, the grilled chicken and lamb chops were cooked perfectly with smoky... More

I've gone to many izakaya joints in Toronto, and this is one with the most authentic feel. Come for the grilled meat on stick. It seems to be their specialty here. There are combos for them that are very price competitive. Odon was quite tasty. Give that a try. Actually, everything tasted great. Staffs were very responsive. My only complain... More

Zakkushi is located on Carlton St. just west of Parliament St. It is always crowed which is a great indication that the food is excellent. Being Japanese does not mean sushi at Zakkushi, all the meats are grilled on charcoal. What a delicacy. Strat with a large Sappora frozen mug, beef, chicken and veal...you will love it!

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
