Toronto is becoming littered with pubs that claim to be Irish but in truth, few rarely make the grade when comparing to a true Irish pub. PJ O'Brien definitely looks and feels like an Irish pub. Overtime I spend time in Ireland I always have to have bangers and mash (with Brown Sauce) and I found myself craving them which... More

We both had the fish and chips which were absolutely amazing. The breadwinner and tarter sauce were to die for. The fries were so fresh and perfect. All of the staff spoke with Irish accents and made the ambiance just incredible. When the server, Erica, found out it was our anniversary, she brought us two shots of Jameson on the... More

Stumbled across this place and loved everything about it.great food ( loved the potato soup). Good service (had trouble with the wifi & had good help from staff) - got refills of bread, good selection of beer & whiskey. Good ambiance. Definitely recommend.

Stopped in after work with friends for a quick bite. We decided to split two meals amongst three of us and I'm glad we did - it was more than enough! We had the lamb curry (yum) and the corned beef sandwich (de-lish). Definitely going to be back!

Arriving back in town quite late, propelled by thirst and hunger, we stumbled on P.J.O'Brien's, relieved to find that a decent range of food was still being served, along with beer from the nearby Steamwhistle brewery. I had fish tacos, my partner penne pasta - both very satisfying.

This pub/restaurant was right behind our hotel the omni King Edward so really convenient. We found it really welcoming and fairly typical of an Irish pub. Good menu with plenty to choose from. We had a steak sandwich which was massive. We really should have shared as there was far too much food and I hated leaving anything. The service... More

We stopped here for a nightcap. The beer was cold and the single malt scotch (Lagavulin 16) was marvelous. Our server was attentive but the music was lousy. I would go back though.

Have a stop here for a good dinner and very good beer! Or just for a drink. Very pleasant place, and kind people!

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
