We arrived to a warm and relaxed atmosphere with friendly, efficient service and delicious food. The portions are generous and nicely seasoned. The John Dory fish with mushrooms and lemon creme sauce was excellent. I am hoping to return soon.

this is our third time at Le Batifole and the chef has impressed us, again. I was joined by my friend from Provence and she said it was heaven. I keep ordering the duo canard as I love duck and the fish soup which is very tasty. Congratulations to chef Pascale.

A lovely Saturday dinner with friends. Professional and relaxed service albeit a bit slow, not a problem when the experience is so pleasant. We started with an aperitif the Soupe anjevine (sparkling wine with lime and couintreau) and as an appetizer the Brandade de morue (cold rather than hot, more like baccalà mantecato in the Venetian tradition and superb) The... The food has been great every time we've been to this restaurant. It is small and not a bit formal, and the food is consistently delicious. We like the wine list too (mostly French), and the waiters and chef are happy to make recommendations. This is not a cheap restaurant (although not high-end either) but this is cuisine that may... A gem for dinner whether your are a local Torontonian or a visitor to the city. Chef Pascal truly loves cooking as you can see the passion reflected in all his dishes. I had the John Dory and my wife had the duck two ways and both were prepared perfectly. More than met our expectations. Great value for the money.... More

This is the best French restaurant in Toronto. The chef/ owner is French and each dish is carefully prepared. The staff are friendly and professional. Start with the Cassoulette D’Escargot a ma Facon (Escargot Fricasse) and order as a main course the Filet of John Dory with Mushroom Cream Sauce. Then, for dessert, have the Tarte Tatin (caramelized upside-down apple... More

My family and I went there for dinner. The food was very good but the service was way too slow. Only two waiters to deal with all the tables. Too few to provide a good experience. As an illustration, we got there by 730PM and got our main course by 920PM. We had of course some appetizers before but overall... More

Much of the food at Batifole is very good; it has been that way since it opened--under a different chef/owner--well over a decade ago. From the beginning, they specialized a big brooding wines from the south, fatty game terrines and rich stews like cassoulet and beef cheeks . Back then, the food was all prepared at the last minute, there... More

I had a fish appetizer and a fish main course, and both were delicious. The quality was high, it was fresh, and skillfully prepped and presented. The bread was baked in-house, and really good. Even the butter was excellent. The desserts were fine. But as is often the case in Toronto at "fancy" restaurants, I get small portions and I... More

Never having been to East Toronto before, my wife and I were looking for an excellent restaurant and discovered TripAdvisor had excellent reviews for le Batifole. The area has many good Chinese and Vietnamese restaurants so we were a tad leery. Not to worry, our meal tonight was outstanding. Following a to-die-for martini, the meal tonight consisted of a marvelous... More

Staying in East End

Neighbourhood Profile
East End
The East End is an eclectic amalgamation of areas that team up to make this district one of the most multi-faceted and alluring. Home to Toronto's LGBT community hub, Gay Village is alive and pumping day or night with friendly bars, nightclubs, and cafes – its thumb is on the pulse of excitement. For a more relaxed day, the East End has the largest collection of restored Victorian homes, and its stately streets, tree-lined and bursting at the seams with affluence, often sport farmers markets and street artists, epitomized by the effusive St. Lawrence Market. One of the most gorgeous of Toronto's neighborhoods, it also straddles Lake Ontario in an area called The Beach, where you'll find folks cycling and strolling along the sandy shorelines, getting some sun or enjoying shopping, dining, and pub options. For some fabulous food, the vivacious personalities running the restaurants in the East End's Greektown is only equaled by the fun and authenticity of the street stalls and restaurants at its expansive Indian Bazaar. 'Something for everyone' has never been so accurate.
