We were at a movie at the old Kingsway Theatre just down the road. Stopped in for an early dinner here on a Wednesday afternoon. The place was empty except for the proprietor and his wife. I love Spanish food and we were looking for...an authentic dinner. The menu needs updating but there are many itmes that are very authentic - There are also combo meals that have a good selection for two people. We ordered the Madrid Combo. A tad pricey at $120 TRADITIONAL GARLIC SHRIMPS CHICKEN BREAST SAFFRON SAUCE FRESH SAN PETER FISH PIQUILLO PEPPER SAUCE MY MOTHERS HAM CROQUETTES,ALIOLI SAUCE GRILLED ANGUS BEEF TENDERLOIN,MADEIRA SAUCE HOUSE STYLE PAELLA MADE WITH SHRIMPS, SCALLOPS,CHICKEN, CHORIZO MUSSELS,CALAMARI,SAFFRON RICE. FRESH BREAD AND TAPENADE So lots to eat for two. Also bread and olives to start. The wine list is extensive and the owner has a massive cellar of old and rare high quality wines - most from Europe. So total with tip was $385. Good food - but not that great. The proprietor insisted on entering into lengthy discussions with us and went on an on about the restaurant business and his wine cellar and his family. It was hard to break off politely. So most of our meal was cooled off by the time we got to eat it. This was probably because we were the only people in the place and it did not look like there was a lot of business coming in...More
