First visit inside restaurant after 5 + months of COVID-19 restrictions. Social protocols fully observed: distancing, masks, disposable menus, etc. Nicely diversified menu; excellent cheese omelette and sides; great coffee; fast efficient service. A pleasure to return to this fine restaurant for brunch.

I will start off by saying that this restaurant may be great for people without allergies, but I got incredibly sick from my brunch experience this weekend. I have a black pepper allergy, which I will admit is a difficult one, but after consulting with...my server (who was very kind, but didn’t seem able to drill home the message to the kitchen) I picked a safe benedict with hollandaise on the side. The first plate came out and the potatoes were clearly covered in black pepper. I returned it and received a “fresh” plate. It looked safe and at this point I was starving so I dug in. I felt something in my throat immediately but thought they couldn’t have done it again so I ate a bit more at which point I discovered there was added pepper on parts of the eggs and salmon. I mean, there is no way to think this wasn’t partly intentional as it was clearly added on top and not baked into or mixed in a sauce. I immediately took antihistamines but was starting to have symptoms of a milder allergic reaction already (difficulty swallowing, shortness of breath, itchy mouth/throat). The manager came over and apologized and gave me a gift card for another visit- WTF?!? All I could do was smile and leave instead of raging at how dangerous this could have been. I spent the next hour in a pharmacy taking additional meds and becoming more sick. Before ordering I made it clear I had an allergy and would only pick items I was assured could be pepper free, and yet this occurred. This is certainly not up to toronto standards and the kitchen clearly doesn’t care about allergies so diners beware.More

I visited this place for a Sunday Brunch. The place has a dim lit kind of ambience and that very well goes with the name. We had to wait for around 15 mins to get a seat. The staff was super friendly but the service...was a bit slow which can be attributed to the huge crowd they were serving. Now, coming to the food, we tried their PBB &J Buckwheat Short Stack (A complete vegan and gluten free dish). It was served with peanut butter sauce, strawberry coulis and maple syrup. The breads were quite fluffy and went very well with the different sauces and syrups. We also tried their Oven Baked Pancakes. It was something new for me. The pancakes were baked and the fillings were inside it. I opted for chocolate and banana flavor and it tasted really good. Their in-house fries were not like regular fries. They used a different sauce and it was savory, a little spicy and really good. Overall, a good place for a brunch.More

This looked like a rare spot to get warm and get some work done on a cold Saturday afternoon. All the coffee shops were heaving. and the drip coffee here is actually Nice ambience and warm lighting. I was served by Coral and Chiniqua who...were super attentive and accommodating. I ordered the cheese & onion soup which hit the spot, esp. with the side of fresh made hot sauces. My only critique would be that the full menu is not served all day, but they ticked all the other boxes so it's a minor point. I would redommend this to all.More

A family get together for weekend breakfast. Maybe the best breakfast ever... . All of the meals were well presented and prepared. Taste outstanding with service to match. Only challenge was parking but not unusual for Toronto. I had the mexican breakfast, again the best...I have had (and is one I try wherever I go). Thanks..More

First visit to this iconic community restaurant in the Bloor-Bathurst area. Diverse and very creative menu with excellent range of imaginative choices; very good food; large portions; superb coffee; fast, friendly service. Pricey, but worth it. Will return. Construction on Bloor Street outside the restaurant...impedes motor traffic and parking; subway and streetcar a good alternative.More

My companion and I were searching for a place to have dinner a little after 10 pm. Insomnia delivered! The service was great, the beer was excellent. The late night menu is more than I would have expected and major kudos to them for labeling...dishes as vegan, gluten free, etc. I had the steak sandwich and my gluten-sensitive companion had the fish taco. We were both really happy with our food. She was especially happy that they had clearly labeled gluten free choices and she liked the ambiance too. I'd give the place six stars if I could.More

We ate at Insomnia on Sunday and had a great meal. My wife who has Celiac was treated great. They have a dedicated gluten free fryer. Also they have corn tortillas for their tacos. Great selection of cocktails that kept us well hydrated. I will...be going back next time i'm in the area.More

Went for brunch on a Sunday. Really busy but managed to get a seat without waiting Had the french toast and buck wheat pancakes. Both were delicious and probably could have been shared as neither of us finished. Good value for money. Also all of...the staff were friendly and attentive.
