Have been trying out all the Greek places on Danforth to compare their salads. My daughter and I have gone to Astoria for decades and I thought it was time to try some other places and see how they compare. Kalyvia was OK, at least as far as the salad goes. The large was certainly that. Could've had more feta in my opinion however. A smattering of olives and sliced tomatoes. Unlike Messini, when I asked for no onions, that's how it came but overall Messini was tastier and I think a dollar or two less for the same choices. $29 for lunch with a light beer and tip.

I lived in Riverdale for nearly 15 years and have tried every Greek place on the Danforth. Kalyvia has the best pork gyros, among other things, around. The food is fresh and authentic, like my grandmother made. Had to move away and today was my first time back in over a year - feasting on the gyro dinner was like a warm welcome home. cannot recommend this place enough.

One of my favourite dishes is the grilled or fried calamari along with a village salad. Had both today and took the rest home. Delicious.

Tried out the restaurant for the first and last time tonight. The meat was dry, tzatzki was bland. The salad dressing tasted like it was made by Kraft. Very disappointed considering the favourable reviews

I don't often write reviews. But this experience was so terrible I am making a point of sharing. I went to Kalyvia to celebrate a friend's milestone birthday. We were a large group. The waiter evidently couldn't handle this. It took nearly a half hour before he (Bill, according to my receipt) asked for my order. I kept it small, concerned the kitchen couldn't do more. I had a small horiatiki salad and a diet coke. Took another long time before it showed, but Bill made the evening even worse with his unpleasant, unprofessional, bellicose attitude. I don't remember if the salad was any good, but I remember how put off I was by this condescending, dismissive server. He did a great disservice to Kalyvia as I will keep far away for this establishment and will discourage anyone I know from going.

After going to almost every other Greek restaurant on the Danforth, we decided to give Kalyvia. We are glad we did. The food was delicious and plentiful. The service was friendly and timely, and the price was better than almost every other restaurant on the strip. If yo are looking for basic good greek food at an affordable price, this is the place to go to.

We were disappointed with this restaurant. We got the summer special and tried the breads, dips, salad, gyros, souvlaki, and desserts. Everything was fine, but bland. It wasn't a memorable meal and we wouldn't return.

After a great walk on the Danforth we decided to have dinner at on of our favourite restaurants on the Danforth - Kalyvia. Kalyvia is one of the older restaurants on the Danforth and the decor reflects as such. With that being said, the restaurant was full on Saturday night. The service is not what it used to be (as the old Greek waiters are no longer working there?), ordering was slow, as was clearing our plates. The server did not smile and did not check in on our how our food was. We always order the pork or chicken gyros along with the calamari for an appetizer - always a good choice. My parents order the grilled octopus dinner and the grilled calamari dinner and both were not well cooked and lacked in flavour. Not sure if we will be visiting again.

We have been going to Kalyvia for several years now and always leave with a great experience. Whether its a full dinner or a light lunch you cannot go wrong. You get the old world charm whether on the patio or inside. Servers are always versed on the specials and make recommendations. Personally I could eat their greek salad every day if I lived closer. The lamb is also very tasty. There is plenty of green P parking on the side streets or if you are lucky like me you will find along Danforth. Each time we have been there for lunch there is a special.

I have dined here for the last 20 years + this is the best Greek cuisine I have ever had apart from my mother inlaws cooking. Always fresh the meat is tender flavourful and melts in your mouth the Greek salad is also delicious with the restaurants secret signature dressing. If you don't try this place you're truly missing out on a wonderful meal.

Have to say I was a bit skeptical about ordering because, I have my go to places and don't like being disappointed with Greek food. The staff was extremely friendly and happy to engage in conversation. I had called 15 minutes prior and didn't have to wait too long for my food. I can't say I loved the chicken it was in the bland side and a few pieces I didn't fancy the smell. In saying that, I am very picky with my meat and the smell of meat. I'm sure there was no issue with it, just my personal pickiness! I also ordered the pastitsio Meat layered pasta with béchamel sauce. This was absolutely excellent! The salad was ok the feta was fresh and the dressing was fresh and delicious. The chicken gyro was very good as well, I wish they would not put potato slices in their but I just picked them out. No big deal! I will return for the pastitsio , gyro and friendly service. It's not a fancy place but the food is straightforward enough if your running in and out!

I wish we had liked this place more. It was family day, so maybe they had a long one. Food was decent enough Greek, but it was just OK. So was the service, sadly. Bar was mediocre. Argh. Really wanted to like it more.

I love going there to get their greek fries. I think, they make it a little different from the other greek restaurants. They put more feta cheese and lemon sauce which makes it so tasty. In addition to that, their Saganaki and the way how to lighten it up in their traditional greek way .. delish
