Le Papillon on Front is located in the heart of Old Town Toronto. Inside of a beautiful Old Town Toronto building with exposed brick walls and high lofty ceilings sits the beautiful venue for Le Papillon on Front. It's exposed brick is complemented well by the aged hardwood floor and perfectly soft lighting. The venue suggests a lovely mix of romance, comfort, and of course, the classic French bistro atmosphere that has followed Le Papillon to all of its locations. In the warmer months Le Papillon on Front even creeps its way onto Front street, giving a beautiful view of the Flatiron building as well as the CN tower in the distance. With a closed in patio adorned with wonderfully arranged planters…

We have gone there twice in the past year and they have never let us down. Surprisingly the place was not too busy each time we went. The food and ambience is great. We would definitely recommend this restaurant for couples, family or business.
We stopped in before plans for dinner, staff was welcoming and the interior is beautiful. We had the duck and the Bouillabaisse, both were cooked perfectly. Definitely visit again next time in Toronto and recommend to anyone. We spent around $100 for an app, 2...full entrees and a glass of wine each before gratuity, which was very reasonably priced for what we recieved.More
Its not a real french bistro because it has quebecois dishes as well witch is weird. It is very expensive for what you get. Food is decent but not good value. Service is fine. Go to Batifole en Gerard street instead. Very authentic.
If you are craving or wanting to have French Cuisine, Le Papillon is the place to go. Great menu selections, I recommend the French Onion Soup. Also take advantage of Winterlicious and try their fixed price menu. They also have a great wine selection. Bon...Appetite!More
Had dinner for two in this restaurant during Winterlicious. Three course meal for $33 with choices for each course. Sea bass with maple glaze was delicious.Spicy ginger and carrot soup to start. Wait staff was very attentive and helpful. Make a reservation because this restaurant...fills up fast.More
I had the immense displeasure of not having my severe allergies taken seriously at Le Papillion this past Friday.
My friend indicated on our reservation that I have severe allergies to eggs, dairy, and peanuts. When ordering from the Winterlicious menu, our server went to...check that my choices were allergy-friendly, and returned, saying that my choice of appetizer and entree were doable, and that they could accommodate the dessert choice with a sorbet.
Thank God I trusted my intuition, because I was served mashed potatoes with butter in them for the entree. A server we hadn't seen before put the plate down in front of me, and after I asked if it was allergy safe, she took it back and went to check with our regular server. Our regular server returned with the questionable plate in hand, saying that his manager confirmed it was allergy safe, but he seemed very uncertain. I asked him to please triple check that it was okay, and he agreed that it would be irregular for mashed potatoes to not have butter in them.
Eventually, a brand new plate came out without the mashed potatoes. The server put it in front of me and asked if we needed anything else. I asked him directly if the previous dish had butter in it, as he did not acknowledge the fact that my new plate had no mashed potatoes on it. He admitted that yes, the mashed potatoes did have butter in them.
When paying the bill, we asked to speak to the manager. When she came over, she was incredibly defensive, saying that it was the first night of Winterlicious, and that they haven't figured everything out yet. I told her that with my severe allergies, I don't get second chances if I go into anaphylactic shock. The manager started raising her voice and interrupting me, and I had to ask her twice to stop interrupting me as I told her how I had to advocate to get a meal that was safe after being told multiple times that it was okay. She then started saying that the rest of my meal was safe because there were no peanuts in it, to which I responded that I was aware that the rest of my meal was safe, as I would be in the hospital at this point. Eventually she apologized (arguably insincerely), which was the first time I had heard the word "sorry" during any of my exchanges with restaurant staff.
The disregard for my allergies and the (severe) lack of customer service was absolutely appalling and terrifying. I will be sure to dissuade anyone with allergies from eating at this restaurant in the future.More
My wife and i had just finished a "rip off" trip to Niagara were Ruth Chris charged us 6 times the LCBO cost on a bottle of wine, among other rip offs. Coming to Toronto we decided on fine dining again and our daughter recommended...this place. The food was amazing, the staff personable and friendly AND our $140.00 bottle of wine that was on sale for half price was delicious and $4 less than LCBO price! Just a great experience.More
What a disappointment!
We chose Le Papillon based on satisfying visits over the last few years. But of the ten items that our party ordered off the menu, only the onion soup had any flavour. The remaining items were dreadful. The cassoulet tasted like it...had been doused in barbeque sauce, the ceasar salad was limp, the beef bourguignon crepe had dried beef cubes and almost none of the sauce for which it is named, the side vegetables were frozen, the steak was plain, and the crepe de la mer had itsy bitsy frozen shrimp with baby scallops that were the size, and texture of a pencil eraser.
Such a shame. The room is beautiful, and our waiter was kind and attentive, but everything else was a spectacular letdown. Even the butter was subpar. Small cheap packets, and very average bread. Clearly this restaurant is only pretending to be French, but if you’re going to get one thing right, the bread and butter would be a good place to start.More
Venue was pretty busy so rather than a table overlooking the street we were seated deeper in restaurant. During the day, the front tables would be preferred.
I had Carrot-Parsnip soup (du jour) and tourtière. Both were delicious. Side of fries and garden salad were...both good. My friend had French Onion soup and Quiche Lorraine. Soup was very good with lots of gruyere. Quiche was very light and tasty. Sides were good. Wine choices were good and we enjoyed a Malbec and a Bordeaux.
Ambiance good. French music was generally good. Gave a nice vibe. Our server was outstanding. No room for dessert altho some guests seemed to be enjoying just a dessert and fresh coffee. I felt this lunch represented reasonably good value. Will definitely return.More
