ALL customers and staff were Chinese except for me. There was even an old Buddhist monk in the corner! Lotus is my new favorite “Chinatown North” restaurant: hundreds of exotic selections to try before I die, mostly dishes I’ve never tried. Vegetarian or not you will find this to be a great Chinese restaurant.

This is My Absolute Favouite Vegetarian Restaurant in GTA! And this has been that way for over 10 years.
I love the food. Some of my favorite dishes are #60 salty chicken with green beens and dried black olive, #88 hotpot of lemongrass eggplant, tofu and #49 sasame chicken.
Atmosphere is very pleasant, nice colors, clean, lots of tables. You know this is a very good Asian restaurant, when you see the majority are Chinese people eating here.
Prices are very reasonable, and the quality is great. Good value for your money. Usually about $30 for two including tip for a very nice experience and quality food.
Everything is vegetarian here but there are so many dishes to choose from. Have brought non vegetarians many times and they always love the food.
You can't go wrong with this place.
The only regret I have is that we have to drive 40 minutes to get here. Wish they opened one up in the West end near Milton/Mississauga.
Definitely give it a try!

This is an amazing veggie restaurant. Even if you eat meat, you'll be satisfied. There are so many choices. The food is fresh and really tasty. The service is wonderful. You won't be disappointed.

our pre-theatre group has dined here before and has enjoined the experience; however, I do not recall ever having such a large number of mediocre, bland and rather tasteless entrees as we did last evening. the only "hits" were the sesame chicken and the eggplant; but, the other dishes ranging from soup to the hamburger-looking tofu and noodles were flavorless. if my group ever decides to return here, my wife and I will not be attendees.

Dim sum can be quite limiting in its offerings for vegetarians especially in Downtown Toronto locations. Here at Lotus Pond we have an incredible tasty selection of dim sum. Since it's outside of downtown, we have to plan when we come here. The service is prompt and the food is delicious. We only wish that this place was easy to get to by subway since we have to drive here. If you're vegetarian and love dim sum, come here. Their dim sum can be addictive (in a good way).

We have been going to Lotus Pond for many years and have never been disappointed. The food is consistently great, hot, plentiful and served fast. There are dozens of dishes to choose from. It is amazing how the cook manages to get so many different flavors from tofu. Highly recommend this place anytime.

Over the past decade or so I have happily eaten at this Buddhist resto on many occasions. Usually it’s a family celebration or large get together, which makes Lotus Pond an ideal and reasonably priced gathering spot. If the title vegetarian is off-putting think of a faith group that has made this permanent dietary choice and therefore works very creatively to avoid culinary boredom.
After all these years my favourite is till the “bacon rolls” crispy tofu with the look, shape and some even say a taste reminiscent of bacon strips and stuffed with a couple of well-cooked soft vegetables. Giving the dish a welcome texture contrast of crispy and soft. The soy based dipping sauce completes it.
Another solid starter is a lettuce wrap with mixed vegetables, dried crispy noodles and ground meat. A fun dish that requires some assembly but your effort is rewarded by the sheer joy of eating it all with your hands.
Their “special soup” is an earthy stock featuring a variety of mushrooms and rarely do my fellow diners settle for one bowl. Some found it lacking seasoning but a teaspoon of soy sauce or a pinch of salt solves that.
I admit to being absolutely besotted with eggplant in all its variations. Which is another reason I happily return here to sample yet another iteration of this Asian staple. On this visit we ordered the “spicy eggplant with ground pork”. Which came in a thick sauce and sprinkled with the ground meat.
Our next main, which was a glossy looking preparation of “Chinese broccoli with pork” was devoured by my son who’s a devoted vegetarian. Not surprising as it offers the flavour experience of a meat dish while allowing him to stay true to his ethical dietary choice.
An iron hotpot of snow peas and mushrooms is seemingly simple and yet one of the really stellar offerings and most flavourfully complex dishes of our meal. As each one of the ingredients stood on its own merit but together were better then one would expect.
At this point we were stuffed, but no matter, the last dish of “Crispy Noodles with beef” arrived. And was another example of counterbalancing crunchy with tender textures. The somewhat oily, crunchy noodles with deeply satisfying and surprisingly beef like slices was thoroughly enjoyed.
Given the location and many visits, the very NE corner of Scarborough, we don’t get to Lotus Pond often. Yet every time it’s suggested as the evenings’ dining destination there is rarely a dissenting vote.

I've tried a few times and found that if you order expensive dish, the food is better cooked e.g. the oil they used in cooking is fresh & new ... there're much variety to choose from, overall food is OK.

I came across Lotus Pond Vegetarian Restaurant a couple of years ago and have been a dedicated customer ever since. Lotus Pond offers strictly vegan options, cooked with Buddhist principles. It is Vegetarian chinese food that beats having to go to a meat filled restaurant and try to find something that you can eat as a vegetarian. Most chinese food is made with all kinds of meat or poultry broths, so this is a lovely alternative.
Lotus pond is a little expensive for Chinese food, but it makes up for the price by being delicious and healthy. The selection is incredible and I have yet to try even 10% of the menu after going frequently for the last few years. If you are seeking a meal on a budget, they also offer combo deals, which I find is the best value when dining with one to four people. The selections are great for combo deals and give a good variety of their menu at a reduced cost, with sides as well. The food is always fresh, with tons of vegetables, and every kind of veggie meat you can imagine. A lovely alternative to tofu or no-meat dishes at regular restaurants.
The service at Lotus pond is wonderful and the same staff have worked there for ages. They are all very friendly and sweet, and I have never had an incorrect order here.
The atmosphere of the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired, but as mentioned previously, the food is just too good for that to really matter. The hours always seem to go against my schedule as well, but when I find the right timing to get in to eat there, I am very much satisfied by my experience. It could use some updating and better hours, but otherwise I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who just wants really tasty vegetarian food. If you are seeking a hip local place with snazzy decor and too-cool-for-school staff, look elsewhere. Food and service is their specialty, the rest is an afterthought.
I would also recommend those who frequent this restaurant for lunch (they offer a pay by weight buffet) to try their dinner menu. It is a much better value if you have the time to sit in and enjoy the experience. If you have never been here and you want a survey of the food they have to offer, the buffet is a good choice for selection and variety.

Scarborough
Situated astride Lake Ontario, Scarborough is a district heavily influenced by immigration. With a number of low-rent shopping and dining options making it a highly affordable part of town, and boasting one of Toronto's largest shopping malls, the otherwise green suburban neighborhood is a good place to go for bargains and discounts. It also draws in photographers. The spires, archways, and cavernous rooms of the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Palace are filled with breathtaking art, architecture, and detailed reliefs – it’s like entering a different world, The ruins of columns and installation art at the Guild Inn makes a free-for-all exploration site, while the big-name draw for young photographers is the menagerie at the Toronto Zoo. While many visitors shirk Scarborough as too suburban, its houses are some of Toronto's most mystical and haunting architectural beauties. And for adventure lovers, it has river-rafting and some unique hiking trails.
