Opus has been a mainstay in the Annex neighbourhood for close to 30 years. What has kept in in business (and it was packed the night we dined there) - great service, outstanding food and one of the best wine lists in Toronto. I thoroughly...enjoyed my dinner - the seared foie gras appetizer (very silky and very rich), the Fogo Island cod entree (a small portion but perfectly cooked and served with a great saffron sauce) and doughnuts tossed in cinnamon sugar for dessert. It's not cheap - appetizers in the mid $20s and most entrees between $40 and $49 - but a good place as any to splurge.More

We were 5 people for a birthday dinner so we could sample the menu widely. Everyone enjoyed their meal, the service was excellent and the wine choices (both under $100) were delicious. The restaurant was not full but I’m not sure how noisy it would...be if it was full, the tables are fairly close together. Both the meat and fish main courses were lovely (bison, wild boar, steak, tuna, cod). The creme brûlée was excellent. Yes it’s expensive but definitely worth it for a special dinner.More

When in Toronto, I always make sure to visit Opus at least once. My last visit matched my previous experiences-a terrific restaurant with one of the best wine lists in Canada. Located in a beautiful neighborhood just off the main streets of Yorkville, I always...feel at home with the warm welcome received by every member of the staff. This time I opted for wines from Portugal as I plan to visit the Duoro Valley soon and wanted to learn as much as I could prior to the visit. When in doubt, just ask Mario. This wine expert must qualify for the host of the year award. I started with a glass of white wine that was listed on the daily list of wines by the glass to accompany six delicious fresh oysters from PEI. When I decided to have the simple homemade pasta with shaved white truffles, Mario suggested a 2015 from Carm, a blend of Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca. While quite young and tannic, it proved to be a fruit monster that should last decades. The pasta was delicious, with generous amounts of white truffles; however, I suggest it could have been better if the truffles had been shaved table side and the pasta served a bit hotter. A complimentary glass of white port finished the great meal. Undoubtedly, this is one of my favorite restaurants anywhere. Thanks, Mario.More

Exceptional food with very helpful and prompt service. Busy, but not too noisy -- a good place for a relaxing dinner. A good place to return to in an upmarket neighborhood of Toronto.

Our friends brought us here when we visited Toronto (on the night Raptors were playing the last game of the Eastern Conference finals on their way to their first NBA finals). The service was very good and friendly and the wine list is huge. The...sommelier, Tony, recommended an excellent Listan Negro from Tenerife, a varietal that I never had before. It was very nice and paired well with our food. We had a good time here. We took a rideshare to the restaurant, but could have driven as they have valet parking service.More

The food is very good The wine list is the main attraction though It’s incredible!! I would die to see their cellar One thing we really liked was the chef came out every now and then and check up on people The crime brûlée was...superb it was in this igloo that you crack to get to the goodness And the sweet moscato that they served was divine Very romantic, cozy and friendly atmosphere Definitely going backMore

Opus Restaurant is a breath of fresh air. No wall-to-wall televisions, no loud music, no absurdities on the menu. Well-composed dishes of reasonable size, fine wine, a calming room, impeccable service. My friend and I shared the beef tartare, which they were able to make...to order (leaving out the onions and olives). This was well paired with beets and squash and goat cheese. I had the red deer venison, which was cooked perfectly. I could have used more of the burnt garlic that came with it, of course. My friend had the sea bream - really tasty. And they were able to seat our late companion, who had what looked like an excellent steak. They were helpful with my wine pairing as well. The only problem is that civilization at this level is frightfully expensive. $47 for the entree is beyond all reasonable sense for Toronto (although I pay it in Stockholm without raising an eyebrow...) So be prepared to pay significantly for a place which is trying very hard to be a real restaurant as opposed to a video arcade with food, which is the rest of the city's offerings.More

This was listed as one of the top 5 restaurants in Toronto on numerous sites and we were looking to make a reservation only a couple days in advance, for a Saturday evening. Opus was able to accommodate. The service is exceptional, there is an...extremely extensive wine selection by the bottle. But my partner is not a wine drinker, so I asked the waiter what by the glass white he would recommend based on my preferences. The one he selected for me was perfect and had the exact notes I was looking for. They only do one seating a night so, aside from our delicious meal, this was my favourite thing about Opus. We were able to spend 3 hours slowly enjoying our drinks and 3 courses each without any rush at all. It truly made the dining experience alone a great night out in and of itself.More
