A recommendation from Mirvish led us here for a pre-theatre meal and we weren't disappointed. We were greeted personally by the owner (and her granddaughters) and seated in the front of the restaurant, with a view of the lovely Elm Street village. Attentive service, very good food and a wine recommendation that hit the mark. An extensive wine list and... More

We really enjoyed our experience at Oro. My meal comprised of the caprese salad, steak tartare, lamb, chocolate torte. All were really thoughtfully made- with attention to taste and details. Each was unique, but each well crafted. The ingredients were fresh and well combined. We found our meal exceptional and are happily putting Oro in our mix of regular outings.

A great find at 45 Elm Street, minutes away from Mirvish Theatre on Victoria St. Connie, the owner extended a warm welcome despite the fact that we were very early for dinner following matinee at theatre. Appetizers were awesome....calamari and a mushroom/artichoke salad that was delicious. Wine list good and reasonably priced. Some great private labels and wonderful recommendations. Pasta... More

I organized a business dinner event here for around 30 people and let me tell you it was outstanding! From the staff to the venue to the food to the service, it all went well without any glitches. The staff was so friendly and kind and made sure we were all well taken care of. The food was oustanding from... More

I was here with a friend last night (after a massage at Elmwood Spa), and we had a wonderful experience. (I had last been to Oro for lunch ten years ago, and remembered it was good - was thrilled to see it was even better than I remembered.) Our server (I'm afraid I can't remember his name) was thoughtful and... More

Upon arrival, we instantly noticed this establishment's relaxing atmosphere. A wood burning fireplace with it's gentle fragrance greeted us as soon as we entered. The service was as you would expect in a fine dining restaurant. We did have a bit of trouble understanding our waiter with his slight accent and quiet demeanor. Personally, I found the dinner menu a... More

Dinner on a snowy evening with a wood burning fireplace, charming service and fantastic food. What more could you ask for? Their pastas are excellent and the venison loin perfectly cooked and served with winter veggies and cannellini bean ragout. A lovely experience

Happened into this gem, while walking to another place where we had reserved. The welcoming staff and warm fire sucked us in, and we decided to stay. We were not disappointed! Stunning, delicious salads started us off. In season root veggies, local mushrooms, tender greens in lemony vinaigrette prepared our palettes for the main attractions. Never have I tasted such... It was a business dinner for a group of 10 and we feel that we are well served by the staff on a week night. The menu has a lot of choices in which most of us chose the pasta dishes as they are made freshly daily by the restaurant. I have the linguini with grilled vegetables and seafood which... More

We reserved a private room at ORO's for a dinner meeting of 14 persons. Connie did an exceptional job or organising our reservation and menu choices. The highlights for starters included the deep fried olives stuffed with cheese and the spiced salami fritters with goat cheese. The creamy mushroom soup was a hit. The group had a choice of pasta,... Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
Downtown
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
