After booking my Toronto trip, I really wanted some good seafood and started to crave it.
I could’ve ordered some seafood meal here or there, but waited on my third night.
Ordered shrimp cocktail, yellowfin tuna tartare, chili corn crab, a dozen mystic cocktail oysters, and grilled calamari with a creemore lager. Don’t worry, I shared with my wife, but I’m could’ve...
It was all delicious and can’t wait to go back.

Lobster rolls are stupid good, oysters are varied and top quality. King crab is overpriced go to Lobsterman Fish club for Hong Kong style King Crab its cheaper and crazy good. Whole fish cooked perfectly, take the kids to see the live tanks and giant clam...everybody likes giant clam. Awesome seafood sauces like Seawitch and Espanola are particularly good. Key lime pie and onion rings are worth the trip alone. Great atmosphere in a dry cool basement of a heritage building steps away from Soma the best chocolate store in Toronto. Outdoor patio can't get wheelchair down the stairs though. Staff are always super people who love working there. Many restaurants sell their oysters.

Rodneys has a good location downtown Toronto, next to an area with different offering for food and drinks. Don’t get mistaken by the small door, their inside is very large and busy. Rodneys is well-known for their oyster menu and being around for long. We went there for the oysters and that part did not disappoint, the oysters were fresh, delicious and the waiter offered his expertise to pick a selection. However, the other part of menu was very irregular and not to the standards expected, some of the dishes were just not well executed. I ordered the tune and shrimp special and tuna was overcooked, and the rest of the dish was a hot mess. We ordered clams and they were not good either. Ceviche with scallops was really pleasant, the right acidity and the scallops were super fresh. I would also remark their wine selection, having interesting bottles especially in the white section. The atmosphere is very casual and some tables can be very small for4 people, so ask what type of table you are getting to ensure you don’t spend the night cramped. Desserts are nothing to mention. Overall my recommendation is Rodney’s is a place to go for they are known for, oysters and some good drinking.

It’s not often that I'm completely bowled over by food - but this was something special. Down in an interesting basement, though an anonymous street door, it feels like you're entering a dingy, secret speakeasy.
Inside it's nautical themed, with the wall décor including shucking knives and spikes from yesteryear.
If you can arrange it, sit within distance of the oyster shuckers; these boys are experts, and it’s always interesting watching experts at work.
The oysters are simply the best and - all things considered - affordable. The ones we have in the UK are half the size, half the flavour and roughly the same price.
OK, you won't get a cheap meal here, but I'd recommend the house white (specially bottled for the restaurant, Cave Spring’s Sealegs is $CD40 a bottle); it was a 2019, from the Niagra Peninsula. I have to confess, I’d never tasted a Canadian wine. This was excellent – echoes of a good Chablis, despite being a Riesling/Chardonnay blend.
There are daily specials, and you know they’re fresh and genuine because the menus have the date.
But this is really oyster heaven, and the king of the crop is the Glidden Point. It’s the most expensive, at around $4.50 a time, but it’s simply superb. We balanced that out with some of the cheaper Sweet Blue; small, cute and delicate at half that price.
There were eight varieties on the menu. It’s pointless, said Austin our waiter, to do the old ‘I’ll try one of everything’ stunt. Instead, focus. Be guided by the expert servers (and Austin can shuck 1,000+ in a busy night) and stay disciplined.
The loos are clean and tidy. The gents has framed soft porn.
You can also get a steak. But would you really go to an oyster house for meat?
This was by far our best dining experience in our stay in Toronto. It’s a wonderful experience.

Rodneys is open again! They have strong COVID 19 measures in place and you can reserve inside or on the patio. We felt very comfortable with the measures they are taking. The oysters were plump, fresh and delicious. We also had a nice selection of scallops, calamari, fried fish and onion rings. The chowders were excellent. Good selection of wines, beers and other drinks. Service is friendly and great as always.

Our first time to Rodney's but not our last. We had a wonderful meal at the restaurant.
The server (Sorry I have forgotten your name) advised us on the type of oysters' we
should order as we are rather novices to the world of oysters.
The meal was beyond great and the service impeccable.
Hopefully we will return very soon.
Parking was very close - so easy to get to. We went at midday and during the week
so I can't speak for the evening.
Thank you

I have been a regular customer of Rodneys for many years. It’s absolutely the best place in Toronto, most likely Canada, for a large variety of the freshest oysters. As a Nova Scotian I really appreciate fresh seafood and Rodneys is my first choice always. In addition to oysters there’s always a great selection of seafood cooked, raw and otherwise. Clams, mussels, lobsters, Willy Krauch smoked salmon (YES!) and many other fresh perfectly prepared dishes. Staff are very friendly with a positive Maritimer cheerfulness. Excellent wine choices, craft beers and cocktails. Location is very convenient on King West near Spadina.

Excellent oysters, very fresh and tasty. The soup with the clamps is fantastic, very nice crab cakes (I recommend them)and if you are hungry a whole fresh lobster will satisfy you. The service was excellent and we visited the restaurant twice and if I ever come back, I will definitely visit again.

The ambiance was quite nice but we ended up next to a loud table of hipsters that made it a bit unpleasant. The patio looked lovely but it was full. As for the food, the New England clam chowder was delicious, although a bit small. The oysters were mostly excellent with the exception of one type that we didn’t care for. The Nova Scotia ones were delicious and the fresh horseradish was nice. We also had the calamari which was good but not amazing. I was disappointed with my Caesar that was loaded a bit too much with horseradish. Would return though as it all seemed high quality and I’d like to try the other dishes. Tuna tar tar looked amazing.

Still dreaming about my dinner here....
Everything was amazing and an unrushed dining experience.
Hostess was friendly and welcoming. Our waiter was super funny and easy going and made some great suggestions.
Lots of Fresh Oyster choices and the portions of all the other stuff was perfect for sharing.
Highly recommend and cannot wait to come back.

Amazing food and the best staff! We didn't have a reservation on a saturday evening, so chanced our luck and were told they could seat us at the bar. Best decision we could have made, we had a fantastic night, the staff behind the bar absolutely looked after us. Delicious seafood, lovely drinks and great company. Despite not ordering oysters (neither of us are a fan) this was totally the right choice

The restaurant, was recommended by a friend of a friend and it did not disappoint.
The restaurant is decorated really quirky and it has a nice feel about the place. We was seated quickly and served our drinks soon after. Our waitress was fantastic she was very knowledgeable about the food and menu, she was friendly and funny, we took her advice on which oysters to have and we enjoyed all of them I think they have about 23 different types to try.
The food is fresh and tasted fantastic and looked delicious.
I would highly recommend this place for seafood lovers.

Rodney's was a great choice for seafood and oysters. Our kids were able to pick out their own lobster and crab as this was their first time trying these live seafood choices. Lots of varieties of oysters to choose from, local and some from the Pacific cost as well. Also had crab cakes, and our daughter who can be very picky said they even had the best butter noodles!

What an awesome place. I travel a lot and I am a real foodie so five stars isn’t easy to get from me, but wow. The original booking interaction, the welcome, the food, the service, the chat with the staff, the vibe, the food, the wine, did I mention the food?
Rodney’s might just have made it to the top of the list of my favourite eateries ever. Just loved it.
I was travelling solo and when I arrived the front of house offered me a bar seat which was so much better than at a table alone. I watched Chris and the crew shucking oysters - the banter, the compliments they gave each other, the chat - it was great to see!
The food quality was out of this world and they took their time to advise and make suggestions, from food and wine to other places to try in the City.
If this is typical of the food scene in Toronto, and of the city in general, I might just have to miss my return flight to the UK……
Chris and the crew at Rodney’s - thank you for one of my best dinners ever. It ticked every box on my list of what a great food experience should be.
