Wonderful atmosphere. Warm and friendly staff. Perfect on your own or with a group. It's also one of the most consistent places I've been in terms of food preparation and service.

We've been coming here for 20+ years - it's our "local." Gregoire, Stefan and their team have maintained their standards over thius long, long time. They keep their staff for decades, which speaks volumes about the restaurant. This is a classic French bistro. Some items...have been on the menu since 2000 - others change regularly with the season. It's constant bustling and energetic. The wine list is fabulous - particularly if you ask them to find something special for you. On any given night 75+% of guests are regulars. Pretty much all of us have spent considerable time in Europe. We can't recommend it highly enough.More

Atmosphere The classic interior is cozy, with an exposed bar, hardwood flooring and an exposed ceiling. The patio was busy, and everyone really seemed to be enjoying themselves, I noticed a few tables having friendly interactions with each other. Overall the atmosphere is laid back...and inviting. Service We showed up a little before our actual reservation and were welcomed immediately to a table at the front on the front patio. The waitress Tracy was quick to welcome us and provide us with the menu and explain some great options for dinner, everything seemed fairly priced. What I loved most about the restaurant was that their didn’t seem to be any sort of pretentiousness, the servers were dressed nicely, but in their own style. The staff worked together, were quick to refill our wine, clear our plates and provide us with the feeling that we were being taken care of. The Food The appetizers we ordered were the Fried Calamari with Chilli Lime Aioli, and the Spicy Grilled Shrimp, Black Bean and Avocado Salad, tossed in a Citrus Papaya Dressing. The Calamari was fresh, not oily, which can sometimes happen. The Shrimp were large and juicy and the black bean avocado was fresh and light. It was a great start for a hungry guy like me. I had the Duck Confit, with mushroom risotto and spinach for myself, while my partner enjoyed the Pan-Seared Arctic Char, linguine in a pesto cream sauce with tomato and spinach. I was definitely not disappointed by the Duck Confit, the silkiness of the meat allowed it slid off right off the bone, the risotto was well done, the rice slightly al dente, and just the right amount of creaminess. The Arctic char was cooked to medium rare, flaking easily onto the fork, the skin was crispy and savoury. We did order a the Sautéed Garlic Greens as a side but I believe it was forgotten, which was probably for the best as the amount of food we did end up consuming was more than enough. Plus we needed to leave a bit of space for the desert. We shared the Dark Chocolate Marquise, with Raspberry Coulis & Chantilly Cream, which should be a sin. We also indulged in the Madagascar Vanilla Liqueur Creme Brûlée, with Candied Orange Peel and Ginger Snap Cookies. The flavours melded together quite well with the Creme Brûlée.More

In late April I contacted the restaurant online to make a reservation for my wife's birthday on Sunday May 15,2022 A representative from the testaurant called me and took a reservation for 6:30 pm on May 15th. When we arrived for our dinner date ,...we were met by a very aggressive man at the door who informed us that the restaurant was closed for a private party. When I inquired as to why I was given a reservation he became more agressive and rude and we left feeling extreemly disappointed and upset that our reservation was for naught.More

We’ve been to Sauvignon several times and it delivers consistently delicious food, friendly and unpretentious service, and a warm comfortable ambience. Even on the patio for this visit, it felt like a lovely, special meal. My 7 year old son and my mom came along...for our anniversary dinner and it was just wonderful to be able to have upscale food but in a nice neighbourhood family-friendly place. My strip loin was cooked perfectly, my mom’s swordfish was huge and tender, the rib special was bigger than my son’s face, and my husband really liked his vegetarian curry. Dessert was similarly amazing. They are also very good with COVID protocols and made us feel very safe. We’ve loved every visit to Sauvignon and plan to return!More

We do very few take out meals but for special occasions we like to go all in and Sauvignon delivered! For starters a very crisp and fresh Caesar salad, very garlicky with tasty croutons, plus a helping of calamari perfectly prepared. For our mains we both...picked the cassoulet,a bean stew, slow cooked with lots of great ingredients (duck, lamb, sausage) quite fantastic! Our Creme Brûlée was one of the best we have ever had. This restaurant has been on Queen Street for a long time and I hope they are here long into the future. Looking forward to enjoying the beautiful decor inside when we get out this.More

This restaurant IS A FIND! The patio is not only on Queen. It's also off to the side and that's where we sat. More private.. They did such a good job on this patio. They even have a fire pit for ambiance and flowers. So...cozy. The service is informal as it should be on a patio. They are all extremely helpful and accommodating. Oh the food........ Mussels first. I usually order tomato based sauces. This one is a curry coconut sauce(My girlfriend does not eat Indian food because of the curry). We were both using our spoons to drink the sauce. So good! We shared halibut, scallops and fries along with the sides that come with the mains. We could not get enough. Over ate!!! It's been a long time since I felt this strong about a restaurant. It's not just good.....It's excellent!!!!! Friends found this place by accident and suggested it. I shouldn't write a review like this so close to supper. Now I'm hungry. Check them out especially during Covid. They have their act together on safety and a perfect meal! Congrats Sauvignon we will be coming back and recommending you to our friends..More

Not the wedding reception originally planned but lovely just the same with close family gathering and Covid safety precautions comforting all age groups. The dinner was delicious and the special bride and groom request for oysters on the half shell and steak tartar was absolutely...fabulous. Couldn't resist the mushroom risotto. Wonderful service and a great wine selection was icing on the cake. Thanks for all the special efforts to keep our group comfortable, secluded and safe.More

We frequent Sauvignon relatively regularly. It’s a perfect French Bistro. The staff is always pleasant and smiling and the fresh fish is always awesome. The other chef specialties are also always awesome and each time we being friends - they are always very impressed with...all aspects of the restaurant. The summer season is even better to enjoy a beautiful dinner on the either of the awesome patios too!!More

We love heading up to Sauvignon on Monday or Tuesday to see what is the week night special. There is always a fish of the day too. Most important though is the nice greeting and helpful service. Whether it's pairing a wine with a course...or just making sure your doing ok with the meal. My personal favourite is Steak Frites with a ceasar salad.More

Went here with my brother, from Denver, sister and partner. We had a great time. The atmosphere was warm and quiet - we were able to have a great conversation. The wait staff was terrific, as was the food.Portions were good sized - my sister...had an appetizer as an entree and was satisfied. The wine was very reasonably priced and the total bill was very easy to digest! We will be back.More
