The place is small but not too loud. The servers were busy as they were short staffed the night we were there. The wine list was good and the food was very good. The baked pistachio crusted goat cheese was excellent. The fish special, arctic...char, was also excellent. The veal schnitzel was good but not the best. The shrimp dish was also very good. For dessert we had the lemon meringue and the peach strudel, both very tasty. Overall it is worth coming back.More

A favourite local restaurant, Monkey Bar manages to maintain its high quality even while restricted to take-out. Wednesday night "chicken dinner" is a great deal, and all the menu items we've tried -- braised short ribs, schnitzel, liver, panko-crusted egg plant, pasta and salads --...are as delicious as ever.More

We had heard about Monkey Bar & Grill through our Bridge Club newsletter and decided to give it a try. We did takeout and everything was delicious! Good portions and great sides included. We had the spring rolls, grilled calamari appetizers and from the mains...the crispy duck leg, pecan-crusted chicken breast, and the braised beef short ribs. Everything was so tender and flavourful! Highly recommend....we hope to “dine-in” in the near future. Definitely worth a visit!More

Monkey Bar is a hidden gem. It has been around for 20 years. It's menu is diverse. The house wine is exceptional. The service was reasonably good, but there ought to have been more wait staff. The food was superb. I started with the calamari,...which was good. My main, which I highly recommend, was the veal chop. It's not the highest priced veal chop in town, but it's right up there with the best.More

We went for Winterlicious with friends, had beet salads and panko Brie for appetizers. They were both very good. The rack of lamb was tender and done perfectly. My husband had the beef short ribs and he said they were delicious. The chicken was great....The chocolate cake and lemon curd for dessert was so good, first time I’ve had lemon curd and enjoyed a lovely light ending to a really great meal. Our server was very friendly and service was excellent. Our first time at The Monkey Bar, but definitely not the last.More

It's one of those places we had been meaning to try for a long time so when relatives invited us to join them, we jumped at the chance. The Monkey Bar has been in the area for more than two decades and I now understand...why. There is something for everyone, and while this could be a sign of a restaurant that hasn't made up it's mind what it is, in the case of the Monkey Bar, it's one of its most important attributes--and all dishes are excellently prepared and presented with panache. There are traditional dishes--rack of lamb, calves' liver, veal chop, steak--as well as many fresh seafood offerings, vegetarian dishes (panko crusted eggplant, braised Puy lentils). There are dishes with an Asian touch and also lovely Italian style pastas. My partner had the fresh fish of the day, very impressive, crispy skin, and I tried the veal schnitzel, with tomato onion relish and sweet potato fries, also nice and crispy and perfectly prepared; my brother-in-law, who said he had been to the Monkey numerous times, ordered the liver, with roasted onions, vegetables and garlic mashed. He thought it was very tasty but would have liked a slightly larger portion. At the same time, my schnitzel was such an ample amount, I handed out tastes to those at our table. Service is helpful as to food choices and wine (waiter's choice turned out much better than the wine bottle I had my eye on) and the warm apple strudel with vanilla ice cream brought us back to our Ashkenazi forbears, bubbes who would have turned out the same dish with pride. The Monkey Bar is family-run, from the chef to the front of the house, and it shows. There is a warm friendly feeling that oh so few restaurants can reliably demonstrate. We definitely will be back.More

Despite it's having been in the Yonge/Lawrence area for over two decades, we had not had the pleasure of dining there until this past weekend. On arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the owner and shown immediately to our table. Our server was warm, genuine...and professional. We shared two appetizers (spring rolls and pear/goat cheese salad) and the chef thoughtfully put a portion of each appetizer on each plate. Main courses (sea bass and pecan-crusted chicken breast) were outstanding. The tiny perfect chocolate chip cookie for dessert was perfect. From start to finish, the experience was very welcoming. We will be back with friends!More

I was lucky and found parking on the street right in front of the restaurant, but like anywhere else around Yonge St. You may need to find a Green P lot, or drive around to find parking
