The restaurant appears neglected and is in poor shape. I had a katsu donburi which may have been prepared a few hours before my order, the breaded meat was really soggy and the whole meal was just messy. No real choice of appetizers. There is no sushi available which is probably a good thing. No problem in digesting the katsu... More

I used to go here regularly, usually with friends or family. More recently my visits to Tokyo Grill have become rare, until I decided today to get a quick dinner. I had the chicken teriyaki, which was adequate and certainly not as good as the dishes I used to have here. Still, the price is right; this place offers very... More

Good homestyle Japanese Curry katsu and sukiyaki is great. The soup in the sukiyaki was tasty and hearty portions. A good Japanese alternative along Yonge St than your typical Japanese fare.

Back in the day, when we had first moved to Toronto, we lived right around the corner from this great little Japanese eatery. Our regular comfort dishes were the beef ramen and the donkatsu (cutlet with curry). We had probably eaten here regularly (10 times a year over a 3 year period) when living in the neighborhood then every now... More

Food was very good and very filling. Service was good but the place is fairly small and can feel like a hole in the wall. Obviously not for fine dining but if you are in the area looking for Japanese comfort food at a good price it is worth a try.

I used to meet a friend there regularly, but stopped going when our friendship ended. My daughter told me how good it was still, so I gave it a try. She is right. It's a humble place in the heart of Yonge Street, certainly the best lunch place on the strip. All kinds of noodles and teriyaki offerings served by... More

This is my go-to place for potato croquettes, crunchy deep fried skin with mashed potatoes within with minced beef. They also serve very good assorted udon in soup. Tiny little restaurant, conveniently 2 minutes away from TTC Bloor station.

This hole in the wall "Japanese" restaurant leaves you realizing that even though this establishment is run and owned by Japanese, it doesn't mean it's real or good, They are no better than the other fake Japanese restaurants on Yonge. I liken this place as to a McDonalds equivalent of Japanese food. They use bean sprouts as a filler instead... More

I work for a Japanese company and this place is where we go for food just like home. It's not fancy at all but the food is like a Tokyo neighbourhood spot (and I spent a lot of time there). Service is spotty but friendly and happy. Price is right. Always gives me my Tokyo fix.

Staying in Downtown

Neighbourhood Profile
At the heart of Toronto, Downtown is the destination for cheap eats and fast fashion. Cut through by hip and trendy Yonge Street, the vibe here is young, with a strong student influence from the Ryerson University Campus. As a result, the Downtown area is always in flux: undergoing the construction of new facilities, with fresh retail spaces and pop-up cafes. Home to Toronto's largest indoor shopping mall, a number of vintage cinemas, and a healthy nightlife centered on the area's Distillery District bar and clubs near the East End, it's both an easygoing daytime spot and a popular party place after sunset. It also features some of Toronto's best outdoor landmarks, including Yonge-Dundas Square and the Nathan Phillips Square: perfect for a concert, a skate, or a relaxing sit-down.
