About
THE ORIGINAL INDIAN STREET FOOD CO. The old Indian Coffee Shops of Delhi and Mumbai have almost disappeared. Their robust flavours used to welcome all: affluent entreprenuers, rickshaw drivers and families. With no air-conditioning, the fans turned viciously. Wicker chairs and bar stools, next to sepia Bollywood portraits. Businessmen coming for breakfast and couples coming for a cup of coffee. Struggling actors and writers dined there. My favourite one, Indian Coffee House, opened in Delhi in 1957, a generation before I was born, and the company was founded in 1936 by Coffee Cess Committee. This was run by a series of worker co-operative societies. Indian Street Food Co is my tribute to such fading restaurants in India, and to the street hawkers who are more innovative then 5 star chefs

It is the best North Indian food restaurant in Toronto, period!
Toronto is filled with very average Indian restaurants and most of the Indian restaurants that do serve a North Indian cuisine are predominantly influenced by Punjabi cuisine.
This is where Indian Street Food Co stands out, it serves an authentically delicious North Indian cuisine which goes above and beyond just a Punjab influenced taste palate.
I have been there on three occasions, always for lunch, and have had the Lamb Thali and Chicken Thali, both of which have consistently been excellent!

Indian Street Food is one of, if not my favorite Indian food restaurant in Toronto. The atmosphere is great and intimate, the waiters are very attentive and are able to help you navigate the menu based on preferences and dietary restrictions. Their food takes a twist on the classic dishes and mixed in contemporary flares. Really recommend their garlic naan bread - its incredible.

From start to finish, this was an outstanding eating out experience. The decor is pleasant. Comfortable chairs and elegant table settings - tables not squashed together, giving guests ample space. Service was excellent. Food amazing! We shared four dishes, and everything lived up to, if not exceeded, expectations. Value for money felt fair. Highly recommend!

On Friday, November 27, my son and I ordered a few dishes. I ordered chicken vindaloo, a dish which I like and had in many places before. I was shocked when this highly recommended restaurant served a vindaloo sauce, which was made literally from a barbecue sauce plus some indian spices. I'm not sure what to make of it, but they are definitely fooling people. I gave it one star, but for that foolishness, it deserves zero.
The owners did not respond to my challenge. if the chef can remake the same sauce from scratch exactly like it was served to me and my son, I will retract my review, apologize, and pay for the dish.

My husband and I used to eat at this restaurant regularly when it was Amaya. When it changed management and became Indian Street Food, the food and dine-in experience was still good. Over the years, however, I'm not sure if it's changed management. Judging from other reviews, this place is probably still fine for dining in, but I recommend against ordering takeout. Reason: I've noticed a gradual decline in value for what you pay. The butter chicken, for example, used to have enough actual CHICKEN for two servings...now it's only enough for one person. Also, the photos online do NOT necessarily represent what actually arrives; see my photo. The Kachumber Salad was mostly chopped raw white onion. Looked NOTHING like the Doordash website photo.

My son and I enjoyed our takeout meal thoroughly. I had the eggplant fries as a starter and followed it with the sweet and sour eggplant with basmati rice. Since we had our meal delivered we can't say anything about the restaurant except that the food we had was delicious. As I've said before, 4 1/2 out of 5.

We visited during summerlicious.
The restaurant is quite clean and the tables are spaced enough apart that the restaurant is quite and on is able to carry a conversation.
The food from the summerlicious set menu was excellent. The service was very good as well.
All in all we enjoyed our meal.

We started with Lasooni Gobhi and Roadside Chaat Papdi, followed by lamb and prawn curry, biryani rice and dal makhni. Excellent service.

Our go-to Indian food spot in Toronto for +15 years! Amazing food, excellent in-house delivery service, reasonable prices.
PS years ago it was called Amaya Express originally but rebranded about five years ago to Indian Street Food Co. Exactly the same amazing food/recipes.

Indian Street Food is another one of the restaurants in our neighbourhood that is trying to carry on during the current crisis. We had the dinner for four -- three meat and two veg -- with a couple of extra side dishes, and we were very pleased. The quantities are ample and the quality is very good to excellent: 4 1/2 stars. The place deserves your support!
