Our first visit and came away thinking this is a gem of a place. We had breakfast and the food was delicious. Service staff are very friendly and even though it was busy our waitress was on top of things and our food arrived quite...quickly. The ingredients tasted very fresh and came back the next day for take out sandwiches for our road trip home. Again everything was top notch and fairly priced.More

We ate here twice and both times the food was excellent. I need GF and my husband does not. We were both very happy. I had the turkey sandwich (not a bagel as is written on the menu) and it was flavourful and not dry....It was accompanied by an excellent salad. The next day I had eggs Benedict with crispy bacon, with potatoes and a side salad, and again it was excellent. I wish I had room for dessert as they have a few GF desserts, as well.More

Not impressed. We tried it for lunch, early afternoon. People lined at door. Nobody anywhere to say hello or give us an idea of how long the wait might be. Being ignored isn't a great welcome to a restaurant. I've been to other popular restaurants...where they don't pretend the people at the door are invisible. The woman in front of me gave up, turned around and left. We were about to do the same when a table became available. "Thanks for waiting" might have been a good start from the staffer, but no such luck. On a rainy day, had looked forward to a bowl of hot soup. "Sorry, we're out of soup." At 1 p.m.? Tried to order the peanut salad with my sandwich. "Sorry, we're out of cabbage so we can't make that salad." This is not a place to go if you're looking for a calm, quiet lunch. With a lot of tables crowded in a small space, the noise volume is deafening, as people feel they need to talk loudly to hear each other and hear the server. Ordered tea. Assumed it would be brought in a teapot, as most civilized places serve it and which would have gone better with their desserts. Nope. A tea bag in a mug, like you would get at Tim's. The desserts were displayed in a case at the front. But it was constantly covered with condensation, which made it impossible to see any of them. I had to wipe my own hand across the glass just to see what was there. The billing methods here are unusual. When the bill is brought to your table, there is no separation of the cost of the items you ordered and the tax you are paying on those items, as every other restaurant in Canada I have been to does it. For one thing, it makes it easier to calculate your tip, as you don't tip on the tax, but on the pre-tax amount. The bill included the printed explanation that while prices on the menu are before tax, your total on the bill includes tax. Even though they won't separate it and show you on the bill how much that tax was. Would love to hear the reason behind this. Their computer isn't good at math? They are trying to save on printing ink? I could imagine a lot of American and other foreign tourists who don't understand Canadian taxes tipping on the full amount on the bill, so I guess at least the servers will be tipped well. I guess I would bring a calculator next time to figure it out for myself. On the positive, our server was cheerful, the interior design is pleasant, and my sandwich was OK. But not so good that it would make me return, line up and be ignored. I've heard the breakfasts are good here, and maybe I would have been more impressed with breakfast than I was with lunch. But I won't be back. There are so many other more appealing places in Charlottetown.More

Best breakfast in Charlottetown, no question. The serving staff was friendly, and worked as a team helping each other out as it got busier. The food was incredible, great presentation, and the flavours were bold, fresh, and perfectly seasoned. Wish we'd found this place earlier...in our trip so we could have visited a few times to explore more of the menu!More

I love this place. They have gigantic, amazing sandwiches on huge bread, are extraordinarily accommodating, and offer a great selection of baked goods, pastries, and cheesecakes. They offer daily hot-lunch specials. I highly recommend getting there early because sometimes they sell out of things. I...was there several times in March and April of this year and bought a ton of stuff. The last time I went in there was my birthday and the first birthday without my father. I was a complete mess, not myself at all, and I didn't plan to go to go there but went on the spur of the moment, just as they were about to close for the day. I ended up getting a latte, a sandwich, and some slices of their delectable cheesecake. I have to say that it was soothing to sip their hot latte, and it further cheered me up later when I ate their hearty food and tasty dessert. I usually get take-out when I go there, but I've had table service there, too, (got the eggs benedict), and it was equally fabulous. I buy lots of stuff every time I go. One of my relatives is 96 and has a difficult time chewing the crusts of sandwich bread. On one occasion when I was getting take-out for both of us, the fine gentleman assisting me was so accommodating that he had the kitchen make her a sandwich on a softer bread and even offered to have them cut the crusts off, which I gladly accepted. I was so impressed by that! They really went the extra mile and were so very thoughtful and kind. I recommend visiting Leonhard's Cafe at off hours (especially on weekends) because the line is often out the door and down the street. Yes, it's THAT GOOD! They have sandwiches, bagels, soups, salads, all-day breakfast, pastries, cakes, daily specials, an impressive and extensive non-alcoholic beverage menu to satisfy every palate, and very genuine, friendly, and extremely helpful staff. Whether you live locally or are only temporarily in the area, this is one place worth visiting!More

No visit to Charlottetown would be complete without a meal here. The food is European inspired with great croissants, German omelettes and a wide variety of sandwiches. Service is prompt and friendly.

Meals brought to the table did not match menu description, e.g. the beet tart did not seem to have beets in it and the daily soup did not match its description. There was a selection of bread on the menu for sandwiches but only one...kind was given to us - it was unclear if they’d run out of other kinds or if the waitress just didn’t take our selection. The sandwiches were mostly bread with a lot of lettuce and not a good amount of protein. Our waitress was snippy - she seemed to be rushing us to order and to get out. She did not care to check in on us during the meal, forgot to bring us cutlery and whisked our plates away without asking if we were done. She then started cleaning our table when we were deciding on dessert so we didn’t bother ordering dessert. There were other tables available if more customers came in, so it seemed unnecessary to rush us. Very disappointing outing with my family. Do not recommend.More

The eggs benedict w/ guacamole and jalapenos was very good, the feta sandwich on foccacia was amazing - overall...the food and ambiance was perfect for brunch. Service was very good - our server Mika was very friendly and helpful w/ suggestions. Definite a must stop when visiting charlottetown.More

Leonhard's is not a Chinese restaurant. It is German infused, I believe. The only Dim Sum offered in Charlottetown is at Kings BBQ and Chinese restaurant. It is by menu and is only offered on Sundays from 9:00 - noon.
