We decided to eat at the John Brown Grille as it was well placed and, on a warm autumn day, we were able to sit outside. It was quite busy which is always a good sign. We were not disappointed. We were not pressured to...order which gave us time to consider the beers listed on a blackboard. We chose the Upstreet Third Place IPA and the Moth Lane Moth Lite, both very quaffable. My wife adores lobster rolls and that is what she chose. She said that the bread was exceptionally good and the lobster plentiful. My fish was a good sized helping with the accompanying chips as they should be. As we did not order a side with the roll, $2 was taken off our check. We lingered somewhat over the meal but the unrushed service helped us enjoy our day in Charlottetown.More

Thought this would be a tired old bar. It has a cool modern flair with a great menu and excellent craft beer selections. If you get the mussells I recommend you share a pound is Alot of mussels. The chicken flatbread was also very good...(though the chicken chunks were a little big and tough to get down. VERY friendly and attentive waitstaff. Highly recommend!More

Our first lobster rolls and what a delicious treat!! Light toasted bread and generous portion of lobster. Service was delightful; friendly and efficient but not too rushed. Don’t hesitate to head here - especially if it’s a cruise ship stop .

A wonderful venue to sit outside and have a nice meal, super friendly staff. It was nice to have 4 varieties of mussels instead of the normal “house” style that most in PEI offer. We had the sun dried tomato pesto and it was delicious....Great broth to dip bread in. Only criticism was they could be cleaned better. Buttered chicken was an interesting take , rice tasted like it had some coconut milk in it, and was served on the side. Would go back to try another mussels style.More

Excellent location right downtown on Victoria Row about a 10 minute slow walk from the cruise port. Very generous portions, good selection of drinks. I had a cup of the seafood chowder which turned out to be a good sized bowl. My husband had the...haddock sandwich which he said was delicious.More

A popular spot along Richmond Street with live music on Sunday’s. We over-heard someone at the hotel recommending John Brown to others. We would give it a try. Luckily, we found an outside table. The ambiance is “5” Stars. The service was quick and friendly....My wife enjoyed the seafood chowder. Plenty of shrimp, clam, mussels and fish. She also liked the potatoes in this dish. I had the special: Cajun Shrimp with assortment of items in a rice mixture. I was not fond of the rice. The Cajun Shrimp, on the other hand, had plenty of flavor and crunchiness. I did enjoy those shrimps. With 2 beers as our beverage, we enjoyed our time at John Brown. A strong “4” Star restaurant.More

This place is a night club trying to be a restaurant. I got the vegetable soup that was bland as anything.mIt had more pasta in it than vegetables. The rice that came with my small piece of halibut was stone cold. My wife’s scallops were...way over cooked to the point of being dry. We spoke to the waitress who then brought the manager over. He was very apologetic and comped half my meal and did not charge for the soup. We did not want to carry on so we did not bring up the scallops. It was a special occasion for us and we were extremely let down. Being charged more than a fair price one expects the food properly prepared. Sorry for being critical but I’m being honest.More

We enjoyed desserts on the patio on Victoria St. A portion of Victoria St is turned into a pedestrian corridor so less street noise.

Stopped by to get out of the rain and grab dinner. After a short wait at the bar, - and awesome Red Dirt Road Ale - we started sharing mussels. Our lovely server, Bella, recommended the crab cakes, which were lovely, and we also had...wonderful bacon wrapped scallops. Perfect amount of shared food - very yummy! Overall fun atmosphere - and the sun came out just as we finished!More

Food Expeditor failure. Six for dinner and drinks. Three ordered the Fish & Chips. Basic local fare menu item as stated on the menu consisting of fish, fries, coleslaw, and dilled tartar sauce. Couldn't believe that the kitchen sent out ALL THREE plates with, quite...literally, less than one tablespoon of coleslaw per plate. Simultaneously funny and pitiful. If you're short on cabbage... for the love of all things holy, leave it off the plate and/or sub-out another option. Gheesh.More

We were recommended to eat here by the Fairholm Historic properties, they were right! There was a good choice of beers and ciders, and a wonderful choice of food. Almost everything could be adapted to be gluten free and our server, Emily E, talked my...wife through the menu and gave recommendations. The bacon wrapped scallops were great and my wife really loved the GF fish & chips, the Chowder was really filling. The next night we wanted a GF dessert and they were happy to serve us just that - Thanks! There is great live music outside every evening which really made the night. Highly recommend this wonderful place.More
