As with many places we visited for food or drinks over the weekend in Montreal, Maggie Oaks was very busy and under staffed. That seems to be the norm for every and all restaurants in Montréal if not Canada or North America. We made reservations...a few days in advance and were lucky we kept them since every place in old town was packed to the gills. We showed up a bit early and was greeted by an exceptionally bubbly and bright hostess who went out of her way to make sure we had a booth. She was great. Now the only downside to this busy night was the service was a bit backed up and slow. But everyone serving us did so with a smile and a bright and happy face. They all were under stress of the many orders and tables that were demanding attention, but they were still so great. The topper to the night was the manager of the restaurant, who looked like Ken Joeng from the Hangover, was unbelievable in how he took care of everyone that was waiting for their food. He was brilliant and made our night. This man deserves recognition for motivating his team and also protecting them from frustrated Patrons. This guy made this evening grand. I highly recommend this place for great food and amazing service!!!More

We stopped here during our stroll in the area. Very friendly staff and a pleasant outdoor seating area. We split a grilled veggie focaccia sandwich. It was made with very fresh mushrooms and peppers that were perfectly grilled. Very good selection of local draft beers.

My wife and I, on our first full day in Montreal, and without reservations on a Sunday afternoon stopped in at Maggie Oakes. We were initially seated at a two-seat high bar table. My wife, who has balance problems asked for a table. Even though...they were quite busy, Cedric, the manager, came over and made a great effort to meet our needs. Of course, I was thrilled by this and thanked him for helping me score points with my wife. The food was fresh, succulent and superb. Our waitperson, Max, was highly attentive. For me, though, Cedric was the star. His caring, organization and flexability was of the highest quality in a person at the manager level. When you visit a city you've never been to, meeting a citizen like Cedric solidifies in your mind what a wonderful city you are in.More

I was on the hunt for a dining experience in Old Montreal, and decided on Maggie Oakes, since they had an available table on the patio. The hostess was friendly, and I was seated at a table on the edge of the patio with a...great view of Place Jacques-Cartier. I ordered a pint of St-Ambroise IPA to start, then ordered the 16oz Rib Steak ($64) which was dry aged for 45 days. The beer wasn’t very good, nor did I finish it. The steak came with seasonal vegetables, and the quality of the steak was as good as a $10 pub steak. The bill took much longer to arrive than it should have taken, quality of meal and service reflected appropriately on tip. Based on the quality of steak I had at Maggie Oakes, this will be the last time I order a steak while in Montreal!More

We came to what we thought was the top 40 restaurant in Montreal and found that people must have very low expectations or have enjoy being told something is great and don't know any better. You may have heard the joke about something measuring a...foot long... well my 8oz steak probably weighed slightly more than a 10 karat diamond. My caesar salad couldnt have been more than one leaf of lettuce. We thought the prices were reasonable for being in a tourist area but we were astounded at the poor dishes. We even had to tell the waiter twice that the white wine wasn't chilled (at one very fine restaurant the waiter was insulted and we were told the wine was chilled to 52 degees... my apologies for asking). Be aware... be prepared. The food is well seasoned ...those who love salt will be in heaven. Enjoy the surroundings and Montreal.More

Great ambiance, service was good but not what you expect when visiting the William Grey, there was a lack of professionalism from certain of the staff members. The food was over all okay we had oysters to start which were great, a Ceasars salad that...was well balanced and salmon tartar which was missing flavour. Then for desert we tried the chocolate dessert they offer it was really good but was lacking balance a berry coulis or a pop of freshness would have been great to take off some of the heaviness of the chocolate, and it would have been easier to finish the plate. The last thing we tried was the Paris Brest which was very disappointing, the pate a chou was very soft and tasted like the fridge, it was missing the crisp outside of the pate a chou, the best part of the plate was the shortbread cookie.More

Awful service. We arrived at opening time and walked in to ask if we could grab a table outside. The waitstaff ignored us, however the bartender told us to grab a table outside. Once we sat outside, a lady came over and told us, in...a rather unpleasant and intimidating tone of voice, that they were fully booked. When we said “oh the bartender told us to grab a table!” she replied “well I’m the manager and we’re full”. Considering the entire terrace was empty, and we were told to grab a table, this felt rather awful and made us feel a bit embarrassed. Using the manager card in this situation seemed completely unnecessary and rude.More
