Great selection of food includes succulent cold meats, pies and cheeses to satisfy hungry and discerning palates. Produce nicely displayed for browsers. Busy and pleasing environment not far from the river and well worth a visit.

I passed by this place on rue St. Paul intending to visit another spot, but I was instantly attracted to the warm glow from inside the restaurant so I stopped in and was not disappointed. It just feels comfortable and inviting with the warm candles, eclectic décor, memorabilia and bric-a-brac. The service was prompt after I used my limited French... More

My wife and I had lunch at Marché de la Villette in early January. Many of the travel-website-recommended eateries were closed at this time of year, or just closed forever, so we ended up at this wonderful boucherie/charcuterie. The Marché is a paradise for lovers of prepared meats. We thought we’d split a standard plate of various meats, but the... More

My husband and I went for brunch and the place was a hopping in a very cold Sunday morning. Staff are pleasant and I liked the ambiance. I had the cassollettes and was disappointed. The potatoes lacked flavour although the other ingredients were ok. My husband had a panini type sandwich and salad which was fine. Great coffee and lattes.

This place has excellent products when we talk about cheese, hams and desserts, the place gives you the feeling of a small market in a small french town. The service is great, I had 2 servers helping, one of the was excellent, the other one was average, the difference was that one of them really knew how to sell the... More

Had the Belgian waffle, a croque-monsieur and à croque-madame for brunch. We were all pleased with the quality of the food and the attentive service. Our waiter, Gael, even brought my daughter extra fruit when he noticed she wasn't eating the cantaloupe that accompanied her waffle. The atmosphere was casual and distinctly French, with pleasant chansons music in the background.... More

Other Reviewers are accurate, this is an absolutely charming place, the type that makes people on the street peer in the windows with wistfulness. Service is a bit flakey. The food was great salads , sandwiches and soups. There is heavier French fare but we had light options. Here is what you need to watch for -the wine. The waitress... More

Cutlery was dirty. Didn't have soup, apple cider, chocolate fondue (which were all on the menu). Seemed like the waiters were more interested in smoking outside rather than serving customers. Very disappointing.

Great service, the ambiance and the food was very good... I had the croque monsieur and it was very good, my salad was super fresh and the price is fair. Its a great place for brunch with friends or family. I recommend for everyone (tourist and local)... I will be back for sure :)

Strolled for over an hour looking for something that took our fancy. Found this place. Have to say good find. Great amusing staff. Pretty much all of them to be honest. A bit cramped... But added to the French feel. Food was superb. The charcuterie on display was inspiring. Think I could have locked my wife in the place for... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
