Incredible and authentic Xiao Long Bao. Biting into their delicious pork Xiao Long Bao brought me right back to my time in China. Thank you to the staff for the kind service, and reasonable prices which although a little higher than other dumpling places, are more than justified. 100% recommend

Stopped in at 11:00 AM on a Sunday, and we were the first ones in. Friendly staff. Small place. Probably not your average tourist ventures in. Only those in the know, or who did their research.
Note: cash or debit card only. My US debit card did not work.
There were four of us, and we ordered 4 types of soup dumplings: Classic pork, Pork&Crab, Lamb, and Shrimp. We were not super hungry, and this was plenty of food.
The quality was great. Flavorful dumplings - each kind distinctly different. The dumpling dough was perfect - smooth and thin like pasta dough, but strong enough to hold the weight of the filling and broth.
My only comment would be that other than soup dumplings, there's not much else. If we had been there for dinner, a larger variety of vegetable dishes to go with the dumplings would have been nice.

After eating western and European food, Chinese food was a much anticipated treat. The xlb (xiao long bao or soup dumplings) are a weird anomaly here.
Food - 2
The xlb did not have a kick to the flavoring at all. Felt like it was a science project where I had to concentrate to taste the “hidden” flavors. Basically it was very bland. All the choices had tasted watered down. The dough was on the heavier side and the meat was flavor lite. The combination didn’t work. Heavy dough heavy flavor. Lite dough lighter flavor is ok
Service - 3
What can you expect from a “local/authentic” Chinese restaurant. Not much. Don’t know if they were making each dumpling but it took a while to get lunch when there was only 1 other person.
Atmosphere - 1
A grimy hole in the wall that just made me a little uncomfortable after noticing the floor. Without paying much attention I thought it was wood flooring. After more inspection it was an old stained carpet that was worn down. Just the thought of the dirt, mold and bacteria in the carpet grossed me out and it made the rest of the small brick room feel dirty.
Will not return. The experience was too lackluster. Will try next door next time

Bien Maison - a fabulous, small hole in the wall dumpling restaurant- My husband discovered a new delight!!
Soup Dumplings — actual dumplings of soup!!! ( not dumplings in soup... the soup is IN the dumpling).
He had a wonton soup, then we had the pork and mushroom siu mai, the pork and crab soup dumplings, the pork and leek soup dumplings were next. We finished this lil gem with their chocolate dumplings!!!
The worst part is we are only visiting Montreal and will not be able to become regulars, but we definitely recommend stopping in if your in the area!

I was so happy to find this small, casual restaurant on the edge of Chinatown. The service was great. The soup dumplings were fantastic! The hot and sour soup was also very good. I was very pleased with the cheap prices as well! If you do not need fancy ambiance and want good dumplings, this is a great spot!

SO happy to happen upon this place! Having lived in Shanghai-- and in Montreal for a half-marathon with the kids-- we were all delighted to find our way to a place (in the heart of Montreal's Chinatown) with really authentic "xiao long bao," a family favorite (also known as "soup dumplings").
One daughter ordered the "sweet pork/porc sucre" and found those most similar to ones we'd enjoyed in our local Shanghaiese dumpling shop. One daughter decided to try "lamb with pepper" for a new taste; she was undecided. My son, as usual, ate everything and enjoyed it all.
The shu mai (pork and mushroom dumplings, steamed) with noodles deal for $8 can't be beat, and it's great fun to watch everything being made by hand in the back.
For an authentic meal at reasonable prices and a charming waitress, you should definitely give this "good house" a try!

Specializing in soup dumplings I highly recommend it. In Montreal’s Chinatown. Save room for a chocolate one to end the meal!

I can't remember what they call the dumplings but it's one of the main things they do in this simple small restaurant. The dumplings are stuffed with whatever meat/fish option you fancy and there's also a broth placed inside. As a previous reviewer advised, place a dumpling in your spoon, pierce it so the broth runs into the spoon. Slurp the broth and dip the remains of the dumpling into soy/vinegar sauce. Absolutely delicious. The seaweed salad is also great and the fretting cucumber salad is exactly that - just cucumber in a dressing sliced and placed on a plate. They don't do vegetarian in house, but gave our veggie a menu from the restaurant next door who did do veggie dumplings which were duly delivered. These were also delicious. Cheap and cheerful.

Bien Maison is a small and simple restaurant in Chinatown. The kitchen has a window where you can actually watch two ladies prepare your meal-to-be. The menu has a front and back page. Choices were pretty straightforward. There are roughly 10 tables. The dumplings were simply divine. The broth inside them is light and full of flavor. The trick is to pick the dumpling up with your chopsticks, pierce the dumpling with a small hole with your teeth, pour the broth into the spoon and slurp the broth. You can dip the dumpling in soy sauce or soy, vinegar mixture. If adventurous, add some chiles. To me, don't bother with the wonton soup on the menu. The dumpling broth is yummy enough.
This restaurant only accepts cash, but for roughly 20 CAD, a party of two will be full and happy to have eaten there. We liked it so much that we had dinner there 3 times out of the 5 evenings spent in Montreal.
