Our night here was organized by the tour company that arranged our 8-day Canada trip. I thought the setting was great for conversation and to get a chance to know the people on the trip. We had the choice between steak (not the best cut) or pasta primavera. If you ordered the steak, everyone got it prepared the same way. I like min’s medium, so it was a little too cooked for me, but in all fairness to the restaurant, they were trying to feed 44 people at the same time. And with groups this large, things/meals get overlooked. So, just speak up if someone in your group doesn’t get their meal because they were a little light on staff in our section. It was a busy Thursday night and our tour guide said there are 700 seats in the restaurant. It was a good mass produced meal and definitely not the best steak I ever had. If you ever been to a historic local place, you know you go for the experience and not necessarily the food. If you have mobility issues, note there wasn’t an elevator to get you to the upper floors and it’s a steep climb to get to the dinning room. Also, if you come as part of a tour, see if your tour operator can get included at least one glass of wine/beer/nonalcoholic beverage with the meal. I ordered a 14 CAD glass of wine but my bill was 24 CAD not including the 16% sales tax. I didn’t want to cause a scene, but maybe I should’ve because no telling how many others got overcharged. It was a good evening with my travel mates and I’m grateful for the experience, but I wouldn’t go back. The restaurant delivered on everything posted on its website. Hope you enjoy the experience!

The Vieux-Port Steakhouse outdid themselves in welcoming our large group of 250 guests. We occupied all 3 floors, with a selected menu of 3 meal options. The staff and kitchen were exceptional at delivering a warm and delicious meal to all guests in a timely manner. The ambiance was warm and welcoming, including a Jazz trio to accentuate the evening. The original stone walls and beautiful velvet furnishings really added to the historic feel of the location.

During our annual commercial conference, Quadra hosted 300 employees for a delightful cocktail party at Jacopo, followed by an exquisite dinner at Vieux-Port Steakhouse. At Vieux-Port Steakhouse, the ambiance was delightfully welcoming, enhanced by a three-piece jazz band arranged by the venue. The staff were exceptionally attentive and efficient, ensuring our large group was well taken care of. They skillfully assisted in seating our group across multiple levels and spaces for dinner. Our pre-selected three-course menu featured filet mignon, chicken supreme, and grilled salmon, all served hot and beautifully cooked. The event was a resounding success, thanks to Zoe Pelletier and the entire Gray Group team, who meticulously attended to every detail, ensuring seamless coordination between both venues. The entire event was greatly appreciated by all our team members.

My husband and I went to the Vieux Port Steakhouse later in the evening looking for a wonderful French onion soup - light late evening dinner. We were seated quickly inside and our waiter ( I believe his name is Alin only from our receipt- he never told us his name) took a long time to greet us - 20 min at least. We watched the tables around us waiting for checks - one man had his check in the air for at least 15 minutes or more before someone came to get his payment so he could leave. A family next to us had a long conversation waiting for their check. Two other tables were waiting for food and who knows how long they had been waiting. Our waiter, a tall burly man with a bald head and a beard finally greeted us with a look of disdain. He wouldn’t even look at me and only wanted to talk to my husband. He barely spoke, gave us water and took our order. Then he disappeared again for another thirty min or more. When he did reappear he ignored everyone trying to get his attention- just flat out wouldn’t make eye contact and would give water refills or food to one or two tables but nothing for the others and leave again. It was so frustrating! In the meantime two other young men brought our food and drinks out to us after we waited for an hour for anything but water. When we did get our food he asked us how it was and went away again for ages. I had to catch him to get the check and he looked at me like a dog. We waited for him to come back and finally he did come to the table behind us and when I tried to get him to take my payment he ran off. The next time I saw him I practically yelled please take this and he said something and stomped away. He came back around the corner with a payment machine and waved it at me like I’m an idiot. My husband paid the bill while this jerk hovered over him to ensure he tipped him. When we left he was all smiles and thanks for coming in. I was furious at that point and just walked away. My husband chose the lowest tip he could on the machine without giving him zero, but I would totally have given him zero. He didn’t do anything at all resembling service. Alin if you are this burly man with the beard who speaks down to people you didn’t deserve that 15% tip on our $104 soups.

I'm not someone who likes to give negative comments, but our experience was unfortunately not great. The place was chosen because of its positive reviews, but we had some disappointments. We decided to treat ourselves a little by ordering a bottle of wine. Unfortunately, on two occasions the waiter came back to see us informing us that the desired bottle was no longer available. Twice this has happened. One of us prefers a steak that is very well cooked, with no red or pink remaining when served. The person in question clearly asked that his steak be very well cooked, not well done but very well cooked. The waiter said well cooked, and the person told him again very well cooked. Yes we understand that many eat their steak less cooked, but it is a personal choice that must be respected. The plates arrived and the person's steak was not cooked as requested. The server was nice to turn it over to be cooked a little more, but this is frustrating when a person repeats a few times how they want it, and that's not what they get. The accompanying vegetables were almost cold, as well as the sauce which is a $4 addition for the equivalent of 2 tablespoons. Unfortunately our expectations were not met, and we left this beautiful restaurant with great disappointment. The prices are still high, and the food itself does not justify the cost of the plate.

We arrived a little before 2 p.m. By the time the person set the table it was 2:09 p.m. the waiter informed us that he was too traditional to have the formula which is valid until 2 p.m. very funny. In short, we take à la carte dishes. One of us chose a meat accompanied by a pour of red wine for $32 (it's a small formula on the menu) the dish served, there is no glass of wine like any customer we ask for the drink the The waiter's response is worthy of a Molière "there is no more wine for this dish" anyway, the price of the dish is less expensive than at La Carle "it's very professional behavior. I'll pass the rest on to you. Obviously no tip.

We are a group of friends coming to Montreal for the past 15 years. We go to this restaurant every few years to get steak and see if it improved. Every year the service is poor as they try to seat too many people with untrained staff to scoop as much money as possible. Last night was a disaster, we never got some of our appetisers, never got wine we ordered, served us cold steaks without utensils. 3 hours of a beautiful Saturday night wasted. Never again Vieux Port .

The restaurant itself was fine, people were friendly and accommodating. However, for being an expensive restaurant, they took our order wrong, they never brought the appetizer and the steaks came out rather quick which was odd. The flavor was fine but definitely not what I expected from a steakhouse that charges that much. I’m not a “salty” person by any means but I feel the steak lacked salt. Would I return again? No

Restaurant very well set, with taste and antique flavor. The food very well cooked and very good, but....something expensive. The food was set with a live music duo, good and without disturbing the food or conversation.

Very sad we wasted our time here for Easter Brunch. The food would have earned three stars but the overall experience dropped it down to two. The place is huge which lead to chaos at the buffet. The patrons did not respect queues. The entranceways became clogged with no way to pass through walking to and from the buffet. The breakfast foods were ok but the fake scrambled eggs and poor texture and taste of the bagels was disappointing. My husband was put off by the texture of his sausage as well. We tried the carving station and dinner foods. The prime rib was hit or miss. I could barely cut the fat and gristle off my slice. The lamb was so tough that I couldn’t chew it plus it was smothered in gravy for some reason. The tossed mesclun salad was good albeit overdressed. I really liked the potato salad. The shrimp were good. We didn’t try anything else because we were so unimpressed and annoyed with the whole situation that we left after trying about half of the items. No cheese or dessert for us at that point. At 64$ per person it was a waste of money and frankly would have been at half the price. We should have known such a huge restaurant space in a tourist area would be a fail. Lesson learned.

Good but not exceptional food coupled with poor service. It took 20 minutes from being seated on a Sunday evening to our drink order being taken although the food came quickly after being ordered. The two waiters working our area were inattentive and then had the nerve to complain, yes complain, when I didn’t leave a tip causing a scene in front of family and friends. My conclusion is that this is a classic tourist-trap restaurant rather than a serious restaurant seeking return custom.

I was visiting my 94 year old mom in Montreal this weekend and I wanted to take her out for dinner on Saturday night. She uses a walker and it is really challenging to find restaurant that is accessible and has a washroom on the main floor. I called ahead and they ensured that we had an appropriate table. The waitstaff was lovely and attentive to her, helping her with the walker when we came in and left (even assisting us into an uber!). We both had very good green salads to start. My steak -a NY strip loin-was perfectly cooked, the peppercorn sauce was delicious, and she loved her miso cod with wild rice. The sweet potato fries were killer. I thought that the carrot cake was a touch too sweet and it was served cold but that was a minor point. Coffee was excellent. I also really liked the warm atmosphere of the place and the mix of families, couples and friends. Very unpretentious. I would definitely recommend this restaurant and thank the entire staff for such a lovely evening!

Felt like my waiter was a slimy used car dealer. He would act like he was being nice and would offer adding chicken fingers to a kids meal or adding some mint to a kids drink, all the while he did it jack up the bill. Charged $32 for a kid chicken fingers. Outrageous! Food was mediocre at best. Was asked by my waiter to review him on an app at the end of my meal. Not appreciated at a fine dining steakhouse when I am dining with my family and to be put on the spot to submit a high review is downright awkward . I feel like they try to take advantage of tourists and I don’t appreciate that. Many other steakhouses around and I would recommend going to them. Avoid this place at all costs.

I picked this restaurant for my birthday dinner on our last evening out in Montreal, and was hoping for a romantic dinner. Despite seeing some recent negative reviews online, we decided to give it a try. We were sat between 2 large tables of families on the back patio. Our apps came before our first round of drinks. Our drinks were the highlight. My partner’s steak was cooked to temperature but coated in a thick layer of steak spice. I had a $50 fish entree that came with “rice pilaf” but was actually Uncle Ben’s. The presentation and the food were underwhelming for the price point. It was also off-putting to have to walk through “the back of the house” past a dirty dish pit and through servers eating their staff meals to get to the washrooms (which were also dirty). We waited quite awhile for our bill at the end, and watched our server in the adjoining dining area enjoying her own meal in its entirety before finally checking in on us. Our server was not warm or engaged. My partner and I have worked in many restaurants over the years, and found the experience to be disappointing. I felt guilty that I was the one who picked this restaurant (and the resulting $300 bill for my partner). I’m not one to complain, but the lack of standards for the food, cleanliness and service made for an unfortunate end to what was otherwise an amazing trip. If we ever return to Montreal we will not be back.

I had lunch in this restaurant one afternoon in February. Already, barely after setting foot in the entrance to the restaurant, I realize that this is not where I am going to warm up (outside temperature = -20 degrees Celsius), in fact, it must be around twenty of degrees, which is, in my opinion, not heated well enough to fully enjoy your meal in this month of the year. The food and service were pretty decent, although the value for money wasn't really there in my opinion (over $45 for two tiny chops and a spoonful of mash?) until the bill arrived! She was not surprised when the waitress, until then very pleasant, leaned over the POS to look with insistence and contempt at the amount of tips that I was going to add to the amount I was paying. There followed several unpleasant reflections, on the fact that, and I quote, “you don’t tip? but I'm not paid you know if you don't give me tips" "I'm the one who's going to pay for your service then" "it's obvious that you're not from Canada" "you have to adapt to the culture of a country when you travel there miss! » knowing that between the two of us, we had left a $10 tip each. I find this behavior completely inappropriate and extremely rude on the part of this waitress. In the future, it would be a question of not disdaining its customers, or at least of teaching its staff to behave correctly, this is the bare minimum expected for a restaurant offering this type of service and practicing this type of service. of price. In short, this restaurant is to be avoided, you will surely find much better elsewhere, and, for the same price, you will be respected.
