lovely decorations, thoughtful servers and really good food. The price is also totally respectable. It is also in a nice part of town you can explore and won't be disappointed in :)

Not only is this cafe in a cool part of town and interestingly decorated, the coffee was great and the food was some of the best I had while in Montreal. I got a veggie breakfast sandwich, which was far more delicious than I could have ever anticipated. They also make their own chipotle hot sauce - I wish I... More

Try the fruit covered crepes; it's a delicious work of art! A small cafe in a great little neighborhood. You won't be disappointed.

We got really delicious sandwiches, no doubt! But it took 45 minutes to get them, others waited close to 1h this is way too long for this kind of Restaurants . But at least one of the waitresses was very kind

I must confess, I am addicted to this place! i love the food! This is a laid back neighborhood restaurant. The decor is funky and worn in places but the food is really fresh, affordable and satisfying. Even if I've been aware of this place for 20 plus years....I just started visiting since late 2015. I crave the portuguese flavors... More

It's messy and it's funky and the service is kinda slow but one bite into those sandwiches or one spoon of those soups and you will see glitter and rainbows and nothing else will matter anymore. Dreaming of a day when I'll go back!

We went to Chez Jose's last weekend, with the hopes of grabbing a quick bite to eat. We definitely got the opposite of quick. The service was unbelievably slow, especially since we specifically asked what would be quick. Furthermore, they were extremely unorganized, serving people who came in after us while we waited and waited for two sandwiches. In the... More

Nice neighborhood cafe, small. Good people. Don't go if you have a "healthy meal idea" in mind. I had Portuguese breakfast, which is sausage, eggs, etc, fried... Creps are good, too. Everything is what you expect it to be, nothing to rave about, just good! Very reasonably priced. They accept cash only, but there is an ATM inside the cafe.

Enjoyed lunch of ham and cheese omelette, chickpea soup and chicken salad. Place is very small and only takes cash. Food is super fresh and tasty.

Staying in Le Plateau Mont-Royal

Neighbourhood Profile
Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
