Great location at the edge of old Montreal, food is fairly hearty. Space is darkly lit and music a bit loud, sort of hipster romantic for me--which I liked, but may not be great for someone with sight or hearing problems. Food is a blend sort of tapas in style but with French technique, fair amount of pastas to choose... More

Stopped in for a quick nibble before our reservation at Garde Manger tonight. What a great place! I wish I had a spare stomach right now because I'd be ordering much much more. Everything coming by our table looks fantastic. The servers are wonderful here. What nice folks! They definitely love serving quality fare and it shows.

We had reservations for an early dinner, but the restaurant is quite small and was completely filled quickly. The menu is very limited, leaning heavily toward seafood and fish. My husband ordered oysters and the halibut special, both of which he thought were wonderful. I had the cacio e pepe, which was fantastic. We shared three snacks: the piqullo, smoked... More

My husband I were lucky to have found this place by chance. We were trying to get a table next door at Barroco, however, they could not accommodate us. So we went next door – Bocata. Fortunate for us they were able to find a place at the bar – our favorite place to eat when it’s just the two... More

We enjoyed a wonderful dinner and evening at Bocata (in charming Old Montreal) with a group of friends. We had a late reservation and the relaxed and cozy vibe in this little gem was just perfect. Elena took care of us beautifully - great recommends on wine as well as appetizers and mains. Favourites among the group were the Octopus,... More

My second time at Bocata. I enjoyed it even more than the first time, because I got to try more of their dishes! Started with oysters from New Brunswick, sweet and briny, then chorizo stuffed dates. A Jerusalem artichoke soup, special for the day, followed. Perfect Fall flavors to warm up a cold rainy day. A burrata, tangy and creamy,... More

the room is small and quirky, with exposed brick and nautical styled lamps, a deli slicer in the center of the room, and super hero posters on the wall. the service was inconsistent and too casual, and the food though nicely plated was just competently prepared. a pork chop ordered was flavorful, but over cooked, and a sea bass dish... This is a great restaurant - I visited here recently with some colleagues. The food was excellent; cooked well and seasoned well, it had a great wine list and I would definitely recommend/return when in Montreal

Although we had no reservation we were on the early side so got a good table in this cozy welcoming restaurant. Our server, a very friendly and helpful woman, kept an eye on everyone and came over just when you thought you might have a question about a menu item. Our meals were delicious and perfectly portioned. I had fish... More

Staying in Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)

Neighbourhood Profile
Vieux-Montreal (Old Montreal)
The historic centre of Montreal, Vieux-Port is home to some of the city's most antiquated buildings and picturesque streets. Along the waters of the St. Lawrence River, the bank of Old Port features museums, festivals, food stalls, and outdoor athletics, a celebrated part of the city that explodes into fireworks displays on warm summer nights. At its centre, street performers and artists compete with sprawling restaurant terraces for space along Jacques-Cartier Square, while the cobbled streets of Rue St. Paul and Rue Notre-Dame offer a reprieve of quiet galleries and atmospheric wine bars. Horse-drawn carriages are not an uncommon part of traffic, and the narrows they traverse are lined with boutiques, crêperies, and poutine shops enshrined in buildings of stone and wooden lattices. Here you can evoke Montreal's past with a traditional cooking lesson or historical tour, then enjoy its artistic present with live music and theatre.
