What a delightful place! The decor is fun, irreverent, and whimsical, including sock napkins. The food was a farm to table tasting menu that appears to vary seasonally. We thoroughly enjoyed the strawberry salad, shrimp and scallops with stewed tomatoes, wild mushroom risotto, chocolate torte...with raspberry coulis, and creme brulee. This was near our VRBO, but I would make the trek across town if need be to eat here again.More

Went for a friend's birthday dinner at this artistically decorated restaurant. I ordered the Mac and cheese (that was bland) and the burger that came with potato chips. The burger was very dry and the salad was equally uninteresting. At the table the salmon and...duck looked like better choices. No one ventured to dessert after the main meal. The waiters are great and the place is interestingly decorated.More

We did not know what to expect going to this place and we were very pleasantly surprised. The food was great and the ambiance was out of this world. It's good to see that restaurants are still willing to have (a lot of) fun with...their guests.More

Restaurant is located in a former clothing store, the decorations are "tailored to this" i.e. birds made of shoes, mannequins which have seen better days and so on. Decided for the tapas dishes, a great choice. Dishes are "sharing size". Had seven different tapas dishes,...all were excellent. Would recommend "the charcuterie", huge plate with jambon/ham as well as "Ceviche Petoncle", thin sliced, marinated scallops; both these dishes were "out of this world!"More

The food is classy in a very original and funky enviroment. Service is hilarious, waiters have baby pants on their heads, and put on a humor atmosphere all evening. The decor is very artistic, with it's button mosaic mural, ancient model mannequins holding the door...and kitsh 50's table lamps stuck on the ceiling for a very surpising and lovely shading. There are surprises everywhere you look and the food is delicious. It's a can't miss!More

Great restaurant, very dedicated to the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighbourood (they are always participating to the social events). The food is great and the owner very warm. The food is cooked at the restaurant. The only thing is that it is a bit far from anything else,...so either come by car or be prepared to walk a bit.More

The brunch menu is excentric, a bit complicated. The food is great, the staff is diverse and colourful. The setting is unique and fun. Yet something is just not right. it's missing a little je-ne-sais-quoi. Service is (almost too) friendly, definetly not there when you...need it. We chatted and waited a LONG TIME before we had to beg to be served our included dessert. The bill never came, we had to walk up to get it ourselves -- that should be stated if it's their policy. Filtered coffee is - like always - particularly bad. burnt taste at 12:00 noon on a sunday? not really acceptable. My friend tried a café-au-lait in a cup, it arrived COOL and... definetly not the best, it tasted better when they offered to warm it up with the filtered coffee. Gave this place a few tries, it was our last visit - sorry.More

We adored dining at Cabotins. The decor was fabulous, amazing that they were able to purchase all the 1950's tables and chairs, with whimsical elements such as table lamps hanging from the ceiling, a bird made out of a shoe and there is more. The...food was outstanding-the tatin, duck appetizer, burgers, salads, everything we ate. Service was also efficient, friendly and thoughtful. We "closed down" the place and the staff couldn't have been kinder to our kids and to us. Its a a neighborhood place-we chatted with several neighbors who love the place. We will return.More

This restaurant is unlike any other in Montreal. One of the owners used to be a set decorator on films and it shows. The place is based inside an old clothes store and they kept all the mannikins. The menu too is based on that...so the entrees are called cravattes and the dessert Le slip. Instead of a napkin you get a sock...white and clean of course. Table lamps are attached to the ceiling and all the tables and chairs are from the sixties. The food is really good too and definitely worth the visit in itself.More

After suffering sticker shock from the restaurant prices close to downtown and the touristy old part of town near the river, where it seemed the only options were $70 - $80 per person meals (not including wine or dessert), our B&B host recommended Les Cabotins....We were looking for fresh, well prepared food in an unpretentious atmosphere. I was originally wary when we arrived and saw the 1950's retro tables and chairs. But the colors and layout of the restaurant are warm and charming. The food was delicious, fresh, very well prepared, and affordable. Three of us shared 2 appetizers and 1 dessert, we each had our own generous entree, and we also had 1/2 bottle of wine and a coffee. Total bill without tip was $100. Service was attentive, helpful and friendly. I highly recommend this off-the-beaten-path restaurant.More

My wife and I found this restaurant while walking in the area. The decor is quirky and it is casual but the service is attentive and correct, the food is outstanding. Excellent quality, well cooked and a presentation that is beguiling. This is a restaurant...for people who are more interested in how the food tastes than the resaurant's decoration. An excellent presentation of excellently prepared food by staff that takes their service seriously without pretentiousness. We had a lovely evening.More

The ambiance of this restaurant were not quite what we were expecting which was a mid-to-upper range french restaurant. Rather, it seemed to be more of a casual cafeteria-style neighborhood joint. The decor was a mix of items that appeared to have been bought at...a flea market or a garage sale, with mixed and matched tables and chairs and the menus contained in old white photo albums. We were intrigued, slightly charmed and still wanted to give the place a try. The waiter gave us a table all the way in the back although there were several open tables in the front. He seemed very stressed and so I decided not to stress him out even more by asking to change tables. The reason why we decided to try out this restaurant in the first place was because we received one of those "deal of the day" coupons from groupon as a gift for this restaurant and made reservations on the night our coupon was to expire. We weren't the only ones in the restaurant that night with the expiring coupon and noticed that several other clients at tables around us also had the same coupon. We also noticed that we were being treated differently than clients at tables without the coupon (i.e. full paying customers). These differences included being given a limited menu choice, being charged extra on certain items and a less-than-pleased waiter who kept leaving in the middle of our order to attend to other tables and not even apologizing each time he returned. After having to change my order several times due to the fact that the waiter kept telling me that they were out of my order choices (even though we were there at 7:30 p.m. on a Sunday night and the restaurant was not that busy), I calmly expressed my disappointment with the limited choice and extra charges. The waiter played dumb and told me he didn't understand what I was "complaining" about. My dinner companion, appalled with the manner in which the waiter had treated me, reiterated my "complaint" to the waiter and the waiter completely lost it on both us. He went on to banter about how the "deal-of-the-day" coupon was very bad for their business and how they had no choice but to honor the coupons even though it almost shut down their restaurant and that certain employees didn't even get paid this week. My dinner companion tried to reason with him and tell him that he should take it up with groupon and not us and that we had received the coupon as a gift but the waiter simply stormed off yelling as he walked away. At this point everybody in the restaurant was looking our way. At that point, completely shocked and slightly mortified (I hate scenes) I decided to do something I have ever done before - which was get up and leave the restaurant after having placed my order. I am a big-time foodie and I eat out on average at least once a week and never have I been treated this way by a waiter or a restaurant generally. As we were exiting, the bar tender (manager maybe?) offered to extend our coupon in case we wanted to return and told us that he would advise the waiter that his reaction towards us was inappropriate but that we should understand that with everybody coming in with their expiring coupon that weekend, the restaurant was making very little money and therefore the staff was frustrated. With all do respect to the restaurant's situation - this was no way to treat paying customers. Montreal has an amazing food scene, with great restaurants (both casual and high end), a restaurant in a city like this cannot afford to treat any customer in this manner irrespective of the loyalty base the restaurant has created. Your money is better spent elsewhere in the city, I know mine will be.More

I was staying near the Olympic Park and looking a good place to eat. I found Cabotins. The best Duck's lag I have ever had. Tender, well seasoned and not over cooked. The salad and vegetables were good, but not as ggod as the duck.
