Chez Claudette is such a delightful spot and truly a must-visit for any foodie in Montreal! The charming exterior welcomes you inside, where you'll find a menu filled with delicious and super affordable comfort food classics—from hot dogs to hamburger steak to lasagna. But let’s talk about the real star here: their poutines! They serve up the best poutine ever, with crispy fries, rich savory gravy, and just the right amount of cheese curds. It's a dream come true for poutine and fries lovers! I couldn’t resist trying the "Grilled Chicken" poutine topped with bacon, along with a fluffy egg omelet, and oh boy, it was absolutely heavenly! The portions are generous, too, without breaking the bank. The service is fantastic, and the dining area is clean and spacious, making it such a pleasant experience. If you ever find yourself in Montreal, you absolutely owe it to yourself to stop by. I can't wait to go back on my next trip!

Our arrival was a bit early, like 6:00 PM and looking in from outside, it appeared there was nobody eating. Approached by a rather disheveled and seemingly man without a home, we were told NOT to go inside and NOT to eat in this horrible place…if we did, we would be sorry and he said, “if you eat here your toilet would explode!” We decide, based on other reviews, to ignore this advice and went inside. An unassuming, small but quaint restaurant, Chez Claudette did NOT disappoint! It is clean, the service was one step short of amazing, and the poutine…well, let’s just say I don’t think you’re going to find any better, anywhere else, short of time travel to 1957 for the original, when it was invented! Our server spoke both French and English and did not hesitate to answer any questions as well as offer up suggestions based on our personal tastes. He was friendly and attentive throughout. Two of use ordered the Viande Fumée (Poutine with smoked meat) and one of us had the Boeuf haché & oignons (Bourguignonne). The only mistake I made, personally, was to order The GRANDE (large) size. OMG that was a LOT of food! I’ve eaten a lot of Poutine in my time and, by far, this one would make Fernand Lachance (the man who made the first poutine) smile. My only regret is that the waiter didn’t know who Fernand was, but it made no difference, this was GREAT poutine. IF you go to Montréal, AND you want some excellent poutine, I don’t hesitate to tell you to go eat at Chez Claudette…just ignore any older, disheveled, bearded people trying to dissuade you from going inside! By the time we finished, the place was packed with people, seemingly most of them, locals!

Casual spot located near a metro stop, this resto has one of the best poutine I had in Montreal. The sauce was really good and had good amounts of cheese curds. The service was fairly fast and since it's casual, you can sit down and get table service or ask it to go. They have lots of varieties and toppings to add like meats. They also have burgers and combos you can check out. Definitely check it out when you're in town.

Chez Claudette, with its charming exterior (including a painting of "Rocket" Richard), is without a doubt a Montreal foodie landmark. It serves up really affordable greasy spoon specialties, from hot dogs to hamburger steak to lasagna; but what really sets it apart are its poutines. I tried the "New York" poutine (with beef and and mushrooms) and it was probably the best poutine I've had; You owe it to yourself to try this place and for those wishing to try poutine for the first time, bring them icitte :) Service was really good too.

Positive reviews of Chez Claudette's poutine on youtube and Trip Advisor made me return to this restaurant 2 years after my 1st visit. This time, I ordered the classic type. The french fries and cheese were very good, but the gravy (sauce brune) was very bland. Was it just a 1 time bad batch that had been watered down by accident? If Chez Claudette improves their gravy, they'll be worthy of a position on best poutine lists, but based on my recent dining experience, it's just ordinary, not extraordinary.

What an experience. Never had poutine until I got here and it was worth it. We got there early enough where there was no one else besides a couple patrons and we went through their massive poutine menu and settled on two. It is supremely worthwhile and even though we ordered "small" the servings were huge and the service was excellent. Would totally do it again and again and again, too many options and I can make room

Disclaimer: I am not a poutine expert. I had "small" seafood poutine. And it was good, it was exceptional, but it wasn't bad, or even decent. It was well cooked and pretty delicious and I liked it. For some people prices may seem a little bit high, but they are really not, because i ordered, as menu stated, "small" poutine and i couldn't even finish it, but I'm 6.5ft (190cm) teenager with fine metabolism. My point is, portions are big. 1 plate will be enough to fill you. The place is small, thus always crowded, so if you are with a big company, you might not find space for all of you. (Idk if reservation is an option, I just dropped by). They don't have a menu on english, but a waitress can help you translate.

This place was recommended as the place for poutine in Montreal. Only locals were there, we were the only tourists. We were actually full when we walked in, but ended up devouring our dish as it was so good. They have many variations of poutine. The cheese curds go “squish squish” in your mouth just as they are supposed to and the gravy is delicious. I highly recommend.

As far as I know, tips are not required for pick ups. Someone should let the wait staff know to be a bit less transparent about their irritation at not receiving tips during pick-ups. Quite childish.

For a first poutine we had a great time. The best for us is the Maryline. As said in the other comments, the quantities are large: my sons are good eaters but this small one was enough. The only negative point was the terrace: we were bothered by the heat blown by the exterior air conditioning module and the noise of a truck which parked in the street in front of the terrace...

Had the Tandoori chicken or tikka masala poutine with my boyfriend and it was so good and the flavours were very well balanced. The sauce is pretty bland but it's perfect because it didn't overpower the taste of the chicken so overall pretty good!!! And had a generous portion too! Will go back

Le Plateau Mont-Royal
Go native in Plateau Mont-Royal, where bespoke shopping, hip eateries, and wacky paint jobs attract locals and transplants alike, making it one of the city's most diverse and distinctly authentic experiences. A creative hub, Montreal's artistic elite pack the cafes along Rue Saint-Denis, where young painters and fashion designers draw inspiration from the playful murals and stately Victorian homes that dot the Plateau's side streets. Not a major sightseeing destination, a visit to Plateau Mont-Royal allows you to enjoy a local perspective, soaking in indie films, latte art, contemporary galleries, and the city's best bagels. A center of polyglot culture, Québécois accents mingle with shades of Portuguese, Greek, and Hebrew in the area's iconic Mile End district, where restaurants straddle chic designer boutiques, serving up chorizo and caldo verde. Friendliest to those on foot, it's a jungle of colourful awnings and sidewalk umbrellas, pedestrian walks and luxury shopping.
