Authentic Sichuan food. Great staff. Don’t go there for the atmosphere, just for the food. I definitely will go again.

I am not going to pretend this place is amazing, but it's good enough for a quick lunch, that's for sure. The food is decent and the service is fast. I recommend this place for a quick lunch.

I have eaten here twice in the last 3 weeks. Both times food was very good. The general tao is as good as any restaurant. So are the Dumplings in peanut sauce. The dish that surprised me the most is the deep fried chicken with cumin. This is a chicken chopped up that is very spicy with pita bits that were also good. Do not expect typical deep fried chicken as it is more oven roasted in a delicious spicy coating. Beware of the red peppers throughout. I will definitely order this in the future. This restaurant is right downtown on Guy street just south of Sherbrooke. Decor is nothing special but it is usually busy with asian families which is always a good sign.

We ordered house style rice, saute haricots with pepper and some cumin chicken with black bean sauce! The flavour is the best I have tasted. My son 6 year old loved it. The dishes are well served (big) and the price and good! Amazing

Sadly Cuisine Szechuan has effectively taken a self inflicted wound to the head. Now that the resto is takeout only, they chose to use a managed online interface to handle the ordering. Clearly the company which manages the site takes a cut of the sale of each item. As a consequence, this restaurant which once was affordable, and provided good sized portions, is now heavily over priced for what they offer. If you know what to order, the food is good. If you are looking for North American style Chinese food, you are certain to be disappointed.

I generally never review unless very bad or very good. So sorry, but I really don’t understand the good reviews! I understand Covid and all that. It could have been a bad night. I don’t know, but for the price I paid, the food showed up in styrofoam which was already a bad sign. Literally the most disgusting food I’ve ever tasted. The spicy rice was too hot for no reason but otherwise flavorless. The general Tao chicken was soggy and each chew I wanted to puke! The green beans were waxy and hard to chew/swallow. Never again.

The Won Tom soup was probably one of the best we ever had, so we were looking forward to the rest of the meal. Unfortunately it is hard to explain how bad it was. We had a bit or two of each plate and that was it. I really can’t understand the good review of this restaurant.

Superb Szechuan dishes : chicken and potatoes fried in cumin, mala tofu, spicy fried green beans, caramelized eggplants ... We are always surprised not to find more people in this very authentic restaurant !

This restaurant has authentic Szechuan food. Recommend the twice-cooked sliced pork, green beans - spicy with ground pork, black pepper beef. Everything is delicious and flavorful, perfectly spiced. Do not come here looking for "Americanized" Chinese food! Lots of Asian customers here. Service is friendly and good. We told the servers about a food allergy, and they were careful to consider it in our order.

The most important thing to understand about Cuisine Szechuan is that it is not there to cater to the North American craving for General Tao and Crispy Beef. What you get is traditional Szechuan cuisine with some of the nicest staff you will find! We were a group of 5 and started off with the Dumplings in Chili Sauce as well as the more well-known (read: foreigner) Hunan Dumplings. The former were spicy, and well cooked, and the latter did not have the liquidy peanut-butter sauce that you get at most places, this was packed with flavor. On the veggie side we ordered the Stewed Eggplany, which was spicy, sweet and was a great way to whet the appetite. The fried green beans which are seasoned with fried, ground pork, rather than salt, were amazing, and not at all oily (as the description might suggest). The poached halibut in chili broth was tender as could be, full of flavour and the veggies that lay within the broth were crispy and crunchy. The Cumin friend chicken, one of their best known dishes, did not disappoint. Perfectly friend chicken and potato slices, with the strong taste of cumin was not only the best bite I had, but that plate alone could have fed four of us without complaint. The ginger beef was tender, packed with flavour and the onions and shallots melted in the mouth. The salt and Pepper shrimp were crunchy on the outside, and super-tender on the inside. Barely able to get up we were so stuffed we were seen out by the chef and owner and felt like we were leaving family. Coming back to Cuisine Szechuan is an inevitability. After a first experience it jumped into my top 3 Chinese restaurants in Montreal. Once I come back here again, I might have some bad new for the other two.....

Only 3 pieces in my Won-ton, General Tao was ordinary, so was curry rice. Only spring rolls were good. I had it on delivery.

This is a great place to go for a quick filling meal. Don't miss the string beans with por and chilies or the cumin tofu - cumin lamb is good too but don't expect choice cuts of meat.

Unassuming decor. Totally. Sure doesn't look like much from the outside, but it doesn't look like much on the inside, either. Reminiscent of every day Kowloon, which certainly has its fair share of Szechuan style restaurants. So very glad we happened upon Cuisine Szechuan. (Our first choice for dinner, a fancier place around the corner was closed because of a natural gas emergency. Boy, a stroke of luck for us!) I could swoon over the green beans, which we ordered sans porc; no problem because Cuisine Szechuan is used to dealing with the local, non-red-meat-eating students. Crisp, garlicky, with a hint of smoke (possibly emanating from the copious, and I mean copious, chilis which I assiduously avoided). A new high standard set for green beans! I love, love, love properly prepared green beans. Onto other menu items. Surely General Tao himself must've compiled many volumes of chicken recipes, because it might just be that there are no two Chinese restaurants anywhere in the world that serve the same recipe for what they all purport to be “General Tao chicken”. Note: there are almost as many spellings of his name ~ did he really exist ~ as there are recipes. Some offerings are good and some border on dreadful! (Surely you’ve had that stringy stuff! Or the bits of gristle surrounded by a coating of chicken flesh?) All in the name of poor General Tao. Regardless of the source of the recipe served up in his name at Cuisine Szechuan, it was superbe! We found the quality of the chicken in the General Tao far superior to that we’d tried anywhere else on our extensive travels: All chicken. All tender. All moist. Not one hint of gristle/cartilage. No annoying breading. All chicken. No kidding. Savoury/sweetich sauce just a tad heavy on the tomato-y sauce side, but absolument délice, nonetheless! The chili pepper infusion not the slightest bit annoying. Just remember not to eat the red bits, if you are hot'n'spicy-averse. Even the green tea is tasty. The restaurant defies the descriptor “fancy”, but it is clean. The downstairs toilet, too, is clean; smells fresh. As the restaurant itself is below street level and is down a flight of stairs, this is not suitable for those with mobility issues. Parking? This is downtown Montréal.

We found this place serendipitously on our first night in Montreal and were glad we took a chance on it. Doesn't look like much on the outside, and the inside is not that fancy either, but we found friendly, helpful service and great food. We ordered the deep fried chicken, which was wildly spicy and crispy and delicious. We also had a dish with tofu, crab and yolk of duck's egg - unusual but a perfect accompaniment to the hot chicken.

Went in, but ordered to take out. Small, basement type restaurant. Many Chinese family's were present, which we have been told is always a good sign. Had the chicken with cumin seeds, twice cooked fish and eggplant. Everything was delicious and very spicy like we love it. We will go back.
